Teaching is a process in which an individual explains what his or her knowledge accurately, if a teacher explains it shittily then its because He or she doesnt understood it well or he or she doesnt have the motivation in explaining it to be understood. It is often said that students learn better by “doing” (kinesthetic) or by simply listening “verbal” etc. But, given that all variables are accounted for, there is actually no difference in which style is most effective from student to student

I agree. Being self-smart helps me to reflect on the way I do learning that seems effortless compared to many of my struggling classmates and cousins. I reflect also on the ways my teachers taught hat really influenced me, both positively and negatively. Visualization helps me explain difficult concepts to children as a private tutor. Nature-smart and number-smart people will have deeper understandings of subjects and topics that relate to science and logic/ math. Added some verbal-smartness, life-smartness, and interpersonal-smartness, then the explanation and activities are both easy to understand, relating to others, and captivating. These are especially helpful when working with children. Music and actions/ body movements can be used and mnemonics. and fun activities.

I think what this theory is ultimately trying to convey is the different ways people are able to understand and apply information. In essence, it's focusing on your learning styles and not just something you happen to be good at as this video may portray. And yes, we all can fall into more than one intelligence at varying points in our lives.

Math is everywhere so saying tech itself is math is kinda dumb seeing as everything has math in it. I also agree with Arctic Chill that not everything here should be classified as it's own type of intelligence. They are too specific. As Stephen Hawking once said, "Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change". The things should be a general field instead of something like "She can convince others to do things". The people smart and life smart are basically two parts of socialization skills. Yes, technology involves math, but not all math needs can engineer up some new tech. Yes, the first lady could is an example of someone who is technology smart.

Each of these categories play a very unique part in whatever task/situation/state they are placed to/faced with. I love how they come together to create the "bridge project" in the story. If only our world recognizes our strengths and put it into something extraordinary then the world could become a better place. Because i strongly believe that everyone belongs. ❤️

Of course, that only matters if you want to go to college or have a particular type of job. and a lot of that ties into not only ability but also motivation. I know a set of young triplets and I can see already who will be likely to thrive in a college setting, who would be discouraged because there is a lot of weight on a particular style of learning that he is not inclined towards (he would need hands-on experience and tangible product of effort; like learning a trade), and I can see who would not want to go to college at all but will want to start their own business without spending money on something that would not apply to what they want to do in life. All of these "intelligences" or inclinations play into learning styles and other factors that are complex and makeup a person's person. Very interesting stuff.

Equivocating talent and skill with intelligence. An intelligent person who chooses to develop an apptitude in any of those areas will progress faster than a less intelligent person.

For example, I'm really good at numbers, finding patterns and flaws on things, aplying logic on everything, etc. Some people say I'm intelligent because of that, but I could NEVER do things that require other kinds of intelligence even near as good as other people

Makes sense in a way. Most hunters have a passion for living things. Without hunting during deer season for example, the population would grow so much that there wouldn't be enough food to support their numbers and they'd starve to death en masse. It's also largely money that comes in from the purchasing of permits that supports local conservation efforts. Sometimes intelligence means looking deeper than what appears on the surface.

Yes, definitely! There is a "teach smart". I know it exists because it is my greatest strength. You first have to be, naturally, very easily confused; then you have to make every conceivable mistake you can possibly make before you get anything right. After this, you will know, exactly, what order things must occur in; and you will be able to, effectively, explain just about any pitfall that can possibly come up in the learning/training process. You must have to first deal with tremendous weaknesses before you can atain this strength.

quantifying, cathegorising and explaining is certaily helping understand a new idea. Einstein (I think) said: if you aren't able to explain a new concept simply enough, that means that you haven't understood it well enough. I am delighted to watch the way you combine visual with narration on explaining new (or new to me) concepts! In a real world I think each of us is operating on a combinations of all those qualities - we have learnt to develop one or more of them intro a skill or weakness depending on the opportunities we had in our childhood. Keep up the best work!

I think there is definitely truth to the multiple intelligence theory (even if it's not easy to test it), but some of the categories are starting to get too close to the personality category. For example, existential or pedagogical intelligence can easily be aspects of personality and partially aspects of the other types of intelligence mentioned. Interpersonal and intrapersonal can also to a large degree be associated with personality, though I like to think some aspects of them can be classed as a talent. For example, being good at understanding other people and delivering information in a convincing way would be interpersonal intelligence. And being good at accurately self-reflecting and establishing goals for oneself would be intrapersonal intelligence. Naturalist intelligence is not only about liking animals and nature (that would be personality). It's more about being able to understand other living things and having the ability to tend to them and care for them. IQ and EQ would have correlations with many of these. IQ would correlate with majority of these - logical, verbal, spatial, and possibly to some degree the others as well, since IQ is about how fast you learn new things. EQ, I believe, would mainly correlate with interpersonal, naturalist, and possibly intrapersonal intelligence.

If you think about it, logical and spatial, and to some degree verbal, is all about understanding patterns (just in different contexts). And interpersonal certainly can be grouped with intrapersonal based on what you said (understanding feelings). But despite similarities, they also have differences, and I think this is what multiple intelligences theory is about, splitting them all up based on differences.

As a middle school Language Arts teacher, I would teach these types of intelligence in the beginning of the school year. There was a two fold purpose. First, to familiarize these young adults that everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. If you weren't a good reader/writer or mathematically inclined, your strengths and intelligence may be in another area. This would raise the self-esteem of those who thought success was predicated on English and math. They learned early that everyone can make contributions in this world. The second purpose was about knowing thyself and others. Every year, I accomplished my mission of making my students better readers/writers and speakers and listeners. It may have been called language arts but I looked it as communications class. The students learned the skills necessary to become better communicators using their strengths and/or types of intelligence best suited for the situation.

*Logic and Reasoning *Expression and Creativity *Empathy and Understanding *Communication *Dexterity *Transference These are the facets of intelligence we display, each on a spectrum within our psyche, some traits are more developed in individuals than other traits. Some come naturally others as skills we develop. The greatest of this set of intelligence types is Transference, this is the ability to transfer skills and knowledge from one aspect of the intelligence field to others, for example the use of mathematics in art or the ability to put words together into a musical form, the list can certainly be expanded. We all display all of these intellectual qualities and through nurturing or nature we develop some, all or one of these, the others are there, but dormant... like people who sing really well in the shower, but can't perform on stage.... practice is what make us better at our intelligence sets, not withstanding that individuals will have natural phobias or may be cognitively or socially as well as psychologically disadvantaged positively or negatively in one , some or all the traits; e.g. Autism, Cerebral palsy, sociopaths (who are more often than not, good at all the sets)

Maybe I don't have the right "intelligence" but I can't say I agree or disagree with this whole thing. This sort of compartmentalization seems kind of arbitrary. For example I find the "nature smart" guy to just be a nature loving environmentalist. That's more on a philosophical side of things imo. Or why not combine the people person with the speech giver? Is teaching separate or a combination of those things? I don't think us KZbin commenters can really give a proper answer since we are not versed enough in psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, anthropology, etc (maybe a few are knowledgeable in a couple of areas but definitely not all). I can see this video to be both positive for people who know what they are and want to capitalize on it and at the same time negative to those unsure or those who are frustrated with what they got (usually the more feel type of "intelligence"). I understood that Gardner first wrote about 7 intelligences originally. I know the Naturalist Intelligence was not included in my study of MIs. It is the learning Theory I support strongly as it encourages students to work smarter with what they have. I have no time for IQ tests as they can only score what’s within the four walls and corners of a test. ‘Intelligent’ people often lack self knowledge (intrapersonal intelligence) and knowledge of others (interpersonal intelligence) which often eaves then feeling isolated or different and unable to form meaningful relationships. It’s better to teach students, children and adult, to work smarter with what they have.

Do you know what all these people had in common? They all had an interest and pursued that interest by continuously practising and fine-tuning their skills. This is what I believe to be core of intelligence. You aren't born intelligent. You become intelligent by pursuing an interest, and by continuously practising and learning. This obsession of categorizing different types of intelligence, as if we are all destined to fit in one of those categories, just feels like it's undermining of what being intelligent really is. It's a continuous process of learning.

I think it's best to state that Gardiner has a firm grasp on how overlapping ideas of intelligence, such as creativity, EQ and IQ can be practically shown in life in the 10 smarts shown. People who are musically smart, mathematically smart and visually smart are actually all able to draw upon abstract reasoning in IQ tests, which is the most accurately assessed aspect of IQ. Like it is the type of intelligence test we would be able to assess in animals and even aliens. Life smart, word smart and people smart would all rely on verbal comprehension, EQ and creativity, with a lot of influence coming from the popularity of their views influencing their success, including their personality type, particularly levels of neuroticism and extraversion. People who are nature smart, body smart and intrapersonally smart all rely on a multitude of spatial problem solving, relationship building and cultivating, including diversifying all other types of intelligence and cognitive traits that are needed in their life. Pedagogical smarts is useful in all fields and actually makes you smarter overall as the saying "learn one, do one, teach one" is universally applicable across every field and uses pretty much all smarts in order to get there. So the multiple intelligences theory is useful in understanding how intelligence is used and manifested in real life pragmatically, but is best used in conjunction with personality theory, emotional intelligence and general intelligence theory. In my opinion, the beauty of Gardiner's work is that it makes the concept of intelligence pragmatic and a lot less theoretical. It addresses how intelligence is demonstrated in non-academic and academic persons and encourages people to embrace creativity, perspective and a variety of activities, which actually assists in keeping yourself healthy, happy and prosperous!

These are applications of intelligence and not different types of intelligence. Thus a person can be nature-smart and understand how to protect the environment, but this doesn't mean this person will have the intelligence to see all of the impacts of their decisions. An important aspect of intelligence is knowing what you do not know. This is an intelligence trait important no matter which type of Gardner's "intelligences" a person belongs to. This can make a person less intelligent regardless of their area of focus and it implies a more abstract level of intelligence and traits that encompasses these 9 types.

Intelligence is much more than any one IQ number. There is verbal ability, executive function, emotional intelligence, spatial reasoning and other measures. I don't know that there is any strict categorization, but there are many facets to intelligence.

Hmmm. Maybe 9 "Inclinations". And if that, there are likely many more and there is likely a way to categorize aspects of each of them together to create totally different ones. I can say though that I see children and adults that have particular inclinations that drive how they learn and process information.

I believe in these types of intelligence. One may be intrapersonally intelligent but interpersonally not skilled, or one might both be intrapersonally intelligent and interpersonally intelligent at the same time. I don't think it's wrong to identify types of intelligence but they may really interplay with other types such as EQ and IQ and others.

I think this is a subset of an unknown larger number of individual types of intelligence. Any core skill could be considered a type of intelligence. Like building intelligence or web development intelligence or fighting intelligence or organizational intelligence. Every person is like a video game character that has different varying levels of each. (even the as yet unnamed or unrecognized ones.)

The conclusion of this video is every person will focus on some field of activity, becoming good at it if eager enough. Intelligence is and has always been a capability to collect, process and to use knowledge, while also capable of questioning things (i.e. forming new entireties of pre-existing material) and thinking independently. It's no use differentiating all the possible ways you may express your intelligence, while the ground phenomenon is always the same. Why people focus and get good on different things is a matter of interest, not intelligence. There are musical families, for instance, not because of some mystical genetic impact, but simply because music is present in the family and probably positively encouraged. Of course some people are better fit to do some activity, especially in sports and other physical activities, but mentally there is not so much differentiation in the end, if everyone would get similar premises from the start.

Yes, there are different types of intelligence. Some are great composers, some are athletes, some are scientists or motivational speakers. Even as a kid I didn't embrace the concept smart=Einstein, I'm sure he would look dumb with a basketball. I prefer the "Everyone is wired differently" approach :)

I believe that people are not equal, due to the course of evolution. Just cause you are bad at one thing doesn't mean you are good at another however you can compensate by learnining. Life is not fair, life will punch you and beat you while you are down, that is how life is BUT if you persevere and stand up again you can acomplish something, you can learn different skills, and BECOME good at things even though you are naturally bad at them. However don't try to become better at your weaknesses and annihilate them, enhance your strengths and become amazing at them.
