@@RomanHistoryFan476AD Think through what you just said. If an electronic window fails sure you can smash it. But why would you want to smash the window? Because its an emergency and you need to exit the vehicle due to a jammed door. If the electronic door won't open you don't smash the door open you exit via the window opening. Even when doors and windows were all manual no electronics for either, you would never smash a door open you would smash the window and exit via the window in an emergency situation if the door would not open. My parents have a 2019 audi that has electronic door handles. However, there is a manual handle built in with the electronic handle. So if the electronic one fails or doesn't release the door, the manual one can be activated by just pulling the handle a little more. Same with the exterior handle. First electronic, if failed pull harder and manual one activates. That is how an electronic door handle should be like.

Yeah. Specially since Tesla figured out a manually operated popping out aerodynamic handle for the situation. Actually inspired by aeroplanes I think. Some aeroplanes use somewhat similar mechanism for rock and pop out handle for latching service panels on outer skin of the plane in aerodynamic fashion. Ofcourse those are tied to mechanical latch. As he said in video. Just have that thing pull a rod, that pops a latch. Heck one can even have a servo on top. Have three pull rods. Outer handle, innerhandle and servo. Then one can have cool app controlled electric popping door AND manual override. After all they did implement emergency override on the front doors........

Yeah I don't get why people want Tesla's. I used to want one, until I learned about them. I've seen people replace motors by 100K miles. Not cheap. The fitment and quality is atrocious. The luxury is sub-par for the segment. Battery degradation = not good either. People be like; "I DON'T GOTTA DO OIL CHANGES" meanwhile they're replacing their motors. Also, lets not forget that Tesla doesn't support right to repair, so if you ever want to fix the car yourself, take it to a cheap mechanic, or install anything Aftermarket, have fun with that, because you can't easily. You could say; "Its electric so its better for the environment" but in the end, buying a used car is technically better for the environment, or keeping yours alive, and either way, gas is way more convenient currently. Who the hell wants to plug in their car on road trips or when they get home? Oh, and finally, their strongest reason to buy a Tesla - Autopilot. Technically there is a similar tech called 'open pilot', its about 80% of what a Tesla can do for $1000's, and it can hook up to a decent amount of new cars. Its also open source unlike autopilot. You can buy a 20K corolla and install it with open pilot and have it self-drive, or get a 40K lexus ES which will crush the Tesla in luxury and reliability AND still be gas convenient AND it will drive itself with open pilot. Tesla is outclassed once you actually research into what it is and the competitors. Unless you want a crazy 0-60 electric car and some other minor tech luxuries and are willing to put up with all the terrible aspects, its not worth it.

I’d call the system unsafe because it isn’t designed to fail safe. Ok, so it’s only the left rear door failing right now, but if misalignment can cause failures, then the potential exists for any (or all) doors to fail during/after an accident, which is *exactly* when it would be most dangerous.

As an industrial Designer myself, I can imagine the route the designers and engineers would have taken with this door design : electric car, future, so the door handle has to be flush and sleek, much aerodynamic very wow, we'll control everything through firmware updates. EXCEPT, while trying to make it minimal, they increased the customer knowledge gap five-fold. It's like an iphone, it's sweet to look at, but if it breaks, it's sealed and it's gonna cost you a million bucks and your eyeballs. I believe in electric, but man this is disappointing coming from a multi-million dollar design and engineering team.

I hope Tesla watches these videos. I had a July 2019 build M3 that I sold for lots of similar quality issues. It was so frustrating as I would schedule mobile service multiple times to fix but never seemed to be fixed right. Lots of fanboys just said they never had any issues so I must have been too picky. I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna with 215k miles that has way better build quality to this day. Glad you guys are bring these issues to light. Again hopefully Tesla sees thus and starts to improve. Saw a vid from a guy who bought a Audi E tron and that is the same over engineered solution to non existent problems especially the external rear view cameras system. And hand painted finish. Not what you expect buying "German engineered excellence" Allowing for the faults in both brands, It still looks like Tesla is more engaged and interested in fixing the problem which is just as important in the ownership experience IMHO

i couldnt even imagine owning some of the earlier generation telsas....that are pre mixed material construction/chassis. TESLA garnered "A+++" techs to cut/weld bolt/rivet their own "repair procedures" on the fly for these TESLAS....then asked these TECHS "what worked what did you do" and put it in their "TESLA" official repair manual/SOP. Then as more and more were CHOPPED and "repaired" with seemingly no level of consistency or workmanship....all the sudden the "changed" the chassis and pillars to be a mixed material construction/assembly. GO figure....while these "USED" damaged/salvaged teslas are basically chopped and riveted back together with realistically no REAL legit repair procedures followed/met other than the equal level of "ingenuity" tesla displays at their own manufacturing lines. While techs just work on them bc nobody else will and get the pay/grade on par with this level of scarcity....the level of actual "QUALITY" work being done has to be a small % considering the level of technician that could actually do it PERFECT/PROPER let alone a DRP that has a good enough paint department to match paint w.o having to "Perfect" the shoddy factory finish as it is when the "current owner" crys about paint uniformity etc..XD and wants to blame the DRP/SHOP and not tesla....you can see why most shops want nothing to do with "Fixing" a tesla what with all the money lost with "return" work....and IMPECCABLY illustrious owners that now blame them for the gaps/paint quality of a tesla they BOUGHT AS IS that bad....they shake down these shops....for this process as if its the shops fault.

Even if they’re “working” properly, those door handles wouldn’t function for several weeks of the year here in Minnesota, where it’s not uncommon to have your vehicle covered with ice for days at a time during the winter. With a mechanical, external handle, you can usually get enough force behind the puppy to break the ice and force it open. No way on these TSLA “lady finger” flush handles. I have no idea how Tesla thinks it’s going to ever appeal to a mass market with this tent build unreliable boutique car crap. Once the early adopters have bought all their rolling tech wrecks, who are they going to sell to?

If they want to build cars like this for "niche" markets, they'll be fine. But if they truly want to get into the "mass-market" thing, building cars like this will be their demise if their current financial situation doesn't get them first. And seriously.... has anyone ever tried doing field service work on a car? Meaning you drive there, work outdoors, and bring all your tools and diagnostic equipment and freeze or roast your ass off? The quality of repair isn't going to be good.

Honestly, I think the biggest problem for tesla is that they have too much hype, their demand is too high. Even if they fixed these quality control issues they wouldn't be able to sell any more cars because they are already are selling at max manufacturing capacity - so the motivation to fix the issues isn't that big. This allows for complacency, the focus on driving forward flashy innovation while neglecting the basics. I have no doubt they are working to fix the quality issues, but they'll be a hell of alot more motivated after demand starts dropping and it has the potential to hurt revenue.

Aston Martin, Jaguar, Fiat all of them had similar door handles in the past, and all of them worked mechanically. The only other company i know where doorhandles have been a problem is actually Fiat, but for a complete other reason: On some models long ago the black plastic of the door handles got really ugly and shed it's upper layer due to exposure to sunlight.
