Wild Bill was 79 when he played here. Gives us old geezers some hope that we can play for some more years.

and he still played cornet. When I was 50 years old a professional musician told me "take a trumpet - you are getting to old to play the cornet".

Turma boa, Wild Bill Davison sempre foi um excelente e notável trompetista, Bob Wilber dispensa comentários, notável tanto no clarinet como no sax soprano e a destacar a presença do grande guitarrista, Buck Pizzarelli, pai do John.

I saw Wild Bill playing in 1980. During the concert I sneezed and he stopped playing and walked to the front of the stage and said: "young man, that was out of key". Just wanted to die.

He had tons of humour, not only with his cornet

Hello again from Ottawa! What a nice narrative you wrote(Mr.erwigfilms about one of my best friends in jazz(the others were Bud Freeman,Jonah Jones and Al Grey). I'm a visual artist(painter) and have done LP artwork for a few Jazz legends(most notably: Artie Shaw & Wild Bill Davison & Al Grey. Wild Bill had a heat attack in Ottawa and the Chateau Laurier found a substitute, so I spent a whole evening with Bill and his(what a saint!) wife. When she left the room, he opened-up his trumpet case(under the pretext of showing his trumpet to me)and enjoyed a shot of something colourless from a small valve oil bottle..."Wild Bill". Check out my cover art on Bill's 1999 Jazzology Recording: "Wild Bill in New Orleans" JCD-170. David W. Jones.

Love O'l Wild Bill. Check out his version of "Blue and broken hearted". The man could blow that horn. He never brought anything home with him it was all left on stage. Benny Goodman's version of this number isn't too shabby either.

i guess its really not important from a sound standpoint-they sound great- but that is bob havens on trombone. he was on the welk show for years and i have records with his picture also!

Bob Havens played violin at the beginning of his career, then he listened to Jack Teagarden records and the rest is history.

As to the discussion of who is on trombone, I agree it isn't Havens but Allred.

And I think Milt Hinton on bass. For a moment, I thought the guy on trumpet looked and sounded like Ruby Braff.
