Fabulous band, fabulous music, & thanks John, for organising it! Wild Bill and Art Hodes, wow! Pity we can't see your thunderous drum solo!

Great-love Wild Bill-all the players were in top form & the drummer listened to Gene Krupa !

Si, realmente extraordinario el gran Wild, quizás con menos "brío" que en otros tiempos, pero siempre genial.

That's my dad - Jackie Free - resident of Epping, Essex - he is now Britan's last living musician to have gigged with Louis Armstrong in the 1950's when he toured - as Enrico will gladly tell anyone. Wild Bill was one of his heroes and he fulflled a lifetime's ambition when he was able to take the stand alongside the great man. Sadly lockdown robbed him of his lip and his dignity as he is now in the early stages of Altzheimers - but he still remembers almost every gig he ever played - and there were plenty.

Wild Bill played a raw cornet, it was said I played pretty, but he played raw!!

That unique sound of WBD - impossible on trumpet - very difficult on cornet‘

Wild Bill Davison died 14 November that year.

He did indeed. It may be that these were his final recordings. He flew to Japan after and became ill a bit later. I've not heard of any later recordings than the final session of that tour which was at Bolton, Lancs.

Thank you Bruce. Dave Bailey. You’ll find some more of him on my KZbin channel. A fine player, now aged 81 and living in Germany.
