Hi Becky, Thanks what a great video. I have been on the carvinore diet over the last three months. I eat meat and eggs avocado and I cook with butter. I have lost seven kilos in 3 months. My blood sugar results have gone from 6.9 to 6.1. My doctor couldn't believe it... So I will stick with this now and hopefully it will take me to a much better place.. Great video to by the way. @@JTDyer21 He said 90% chocolate, which means it's at least 90% cocoa solids by mass, so although there's some sugar in it, there really isn't all that much. For some people, that kind of chocolate in moderation is ok without any dangerous effects of the sugar, like spikes. I myself often enjoy once in a while, a piece of chocolate, usually around 80%, but I found some on Amazon that's 95%! Even 100%! Dr Becky. Thank you for your comments. Having worked in healthcare since the 1980’s it’s been devastating to see the BMIs of individuals increase so dramatically. It used to be a rarity to encounter an individual who weighed 400+ pounds... and now it’s common. We have extended seats on wheelchairs, in waiting rooms, and even hospital beds, with width and weight loads accommodating the 400 pound or greater individual. It’s SAD ... and unfortunately becoming increasingly acceptable. Your gentle, humble approach to this sensitive topic is appreciated.

Two month ago I decided to avoid carbohydrates as much as possible, not as a temporary diet, but as a permanent. The reason was not to lose weight; that came as a side effect. The reason was to enhance my mood and alertness by reducing sugars. The result has been truly amazing and one powerful argument for staying away from carbohydrates permanently; that reducing the sugar intake results in a (significantly rapid) weight loss is only a welcomed bonus :-)

For years I struggled with poor health until one day I went to see a Natural Doctor who was not quick to prescribe a drug to every symptom. He had me write down my foods I ate and how I prepared them. After he reviewed what I written Down, he suggested changes that I needed to eliminate & one of those changes were to eliminate Cooking oil & replace it with Broth or water with cooking. This has made a world of difference in my health. It wasn't easy to part ways with conventional norms but I was open minded and it worked. I never heard info like this from MD's I've always seen. Reputable books is another great source.

Great video Dr. Gillaspy. Several years ago I had a conversation with a beautiful female trainer at a gym I belonged to. She was incredibly healthy looking and fit. She did not look muscled-out or unnatural, just fit and naturally healthy looking. She gave me the best advice that I still adhere to to this day, which is to, “Eat straight from the earth.” I can still remember her saying, “If it’s not in its natural form, then don’t eat it.” She explained that our bodies are not intended to eat any processed foods that come prepackaged, hence all the obesity and health problems with Americans. I enjoy working out and keeping a well balanced life in general, but the biggest attribute to feeling good every day, that I’ve experienced, has been consistently eating foods that are straight from the earth in their natural form. 🥩 🐓 🥚 🥒 🥬 🍎 🥥

It should not be a low protein diet either. One still has to have adequate protein and one does get to eat a bit more protein on a low carb diet just not excess protein. As you age you do need to hit the leucine threshold which helps to prevent sarcopenia. Look at professor Don layman's talks on protein. As we age we do not utilize protein as efficiently as we did when we were young. As we age we therefore need more protein not less in order to maintain muscle mass effectively. Strength training also helps with this so we don't become frail and sarcopenic.

Be careful that you are not training too much. Training will not help that much in weight loss, max. 15%. Training will raise your cortisol levels and is only good, if it's not putting you in too much stress, It's all about balance. Health does not need that much exercise. Brisk walk 20-30 min per day (heartbeat of "180 minus your age") and 3 times around 20-30 min of HIIT training i.ex with weights is close to optimum for most. That's how I'm living now. Lost 20 pounds in last 5 months and my fat-% is now 18 and I'm soon 53. My recent blood work was perfect. I'm also doing IF in 16/8 pattern.

@@eniyemission474 90 is a good figure, But don't go crazy about counting. That type of insanity is the 1st thing will get you off of a good diet plan. Just use common sense and eat healthy. Love your videos ❤ Please correct me if I'm wrong. -Amino acids are building blocks, not protains. -Animal protains has all the amino acids we need. Vegetables don't have them all, and vegetables contains a good amount of carbs which may elevate our glucose levels. - Carbs are metabolized as glocose -High fiber carbs are still carbs. So if you eat a lot of it, your blood glocose level will be higher. By the way, you look very good. You look way younger than your age. Keep up the good work 👍

This, coupled to your list of ranked carbs in terms of carb to fiber content is all someone needs to improve their weight level and health through nutrition. Great video!! I did keto for over a year and lost over 58 pounds. Now I have the ridiculous notion to try out for a natural bodybuilding contest in the near future. Because of this new goal, I know that good carbs are essential for me in terms of energy and muscle glycogen. Therefore I switched to a more flexible approach to eating for the past few months. It’s a lot more work than keto, in that I have to track everything I eat everyday, but as long as I keep my calories in a deficit, I am losing weight and my body composition is improving. Hopefully I will be ready to compete next year, but man this is hard, when you get below 11 percent body fat, it gets tough and the progress is way slow. So I keep up the fight and move forward with all my might. Thanks again for the helpful videos, doc!!

Adapting to my situation caused my activity level to suffer and so I started putting on more and more weight and was turning diabetic. Following advice from your channel as well as others, I totally cut out the carbs in a healthy way. My typical meals now include some sort of protein like steak, salmon, or chicken with the skin as well as sautéed vegetables in olive oil and some fruit such as apples, blueberries or strawberries. Occasionally I will have almonds or cashews for snacks. All of these foods are easy to find in the local grocery store or even in our family restaurant. I also make sure my portions are under control by calorie counting. I now hit the elliptical trainer 4 times a week. All of these have been a change from my previous nutrition and exercise but not totally bonkers and have been easy to maintain. No more sugar, flour or rice products. I have now hit my goal weight and lost 25 pounds in about 2.5 months! My latest blood work from a couple weeks ago indicated I am now almost back to normal triglycerides and A1c levels and my combined cholesterol is down to 138! After the sudden and unexpected death of my fiance a little over a year ago, my grief was so deep I was barely alive myself. I wasn't eating more, but I took fewer long walks, runs and hikes. A year later when I stepped on the scale I couldn't believe I'd gained 20 pounds. I felt awful internally, too, but I figured the grief was slowly killing me. I've since learned that traumatic events can affect thyroid and other functions in the body. Although my TSH levels tested normal, I started watching KZbin videos like yours and began to understand that my glucose and insulin levels were a big part of my problem. I immediately went on your 0-1-2-3 diet, then incorporated the keto diet and intermittent fasting. I went into ketosis fairly quickly and felt immediately better! I felt the inflammation throughout my body dissipate. It is very hard to describe but I had felt for a while that something was very wrong with my body. I realized, as the pounds were quickly falling off, that I had been in denial about carbs and sugars and the harm they were causing in my body. I clearly had become glucose intolerant and insulin resistant. And I had been a "low fat" eater all my life! Who knew?! Your 0-1-2-3 diet paved the way for what I can only call my recovery, providing the structure I needed to move forward. I lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks and another pound or more every week since (12 pounds in less than five weeks). I have 10 more pounds to lose. I am looking forward to my 41st day (this Saturday) when I will indulge in some favorite carbs, and I look forward to beginning another 40 days of my diet, which I also love. (As a Christian woman, I appreciate that number 40!) I have to admit, I often can't manage to eat the big salad and two cooked veggies a day because I stay so full for a long time after that salad. I love my keto coffee (it breaks my fast about 10am and buys me a lot of time until that nice salad), and I have found that my definition of "dessert" has shifted now that I don't crave carbs... those little Babybel cheeses are amazing little treats, and I love a stalk of celery with almond butter. I have also watched Dr. Berg's videos and your Two Fit Docs. I feel like I have discovered a full gas tank in my "car", one that runs more efficiently, that doesn't need constant refueling, and I feel like me again. I am so, so grateful for the work you are doing; I believe God led me to what I see as a ministry of sorts. This information can change lives. I hope to share this with as many people as possible. I can't afford your coaching or meal plan at this point but I hope to add those to my program should my financial situation improve. Thank you so much, you and your husband, for opening my eyes and bringing me back to health. May God bless you both.

I understand completely. I was a 14 in 16’ wanting to lose weight. I’m a yo-yo dieter. Well my dad passed away very suddenly in early 17’ and over the next 10 months I ate my way to a size 18. So miserable!! In pain and just unhealthy. I started March of this year and I turned 60 August 4th. I’m 2 sizes down and not going back. Pain gone. Allergies/asthma gone. I too am a Christian. I’m so sorry you lost your fiancé!! Take care

Thankyou Dr Becky. I really appreciate how you sorted out good carbs and good fats. And it works. I've started for the last month and I'm less hungry, in fact I feel more full. I own my self regulation, it's a discipline that I enjoy; I winde down after 6pm away from social media for example., slow down follow nature and I'm now following your insights as I've subscribed. Thankyou again Dr Becky. Be well.

Whilst doing some personal research on an insulin resistance diet, I stumbled onto your channel. I’m very impressed, not just by your knowledge, but also your demeanour and delivery of the information. Subscribed! I like what you have to say; however, what about those of us who would prefer a vegan diet? It’s so tough. I mean, of course there are proteins to choose from such as soybeans, tofu, tempeh, nuts and seeds. But, what else? I miss my beans and whole grains. Bought some wild salmon the other day, but after a few bites, had to abandon the idea. Feeling stumped as to how I can have a well balanced vegan insulin resistance diet. Will check out your other videos. 🤗

I'm a 63 year old retired public school teacher. Elementary school and Special Education. I've been in gyms consistently since the early 1980's. Circuit training, boxing, kettle bells are my thing. CrossFit was great (summer 2012) and I would love to go back to it, alas it's but too expensive. The coaches gave me modifications where needed. Glad to have found this video. This information to some is very new. It isn't to me. I've been chubby/plump since childhood...never known what it's like to be truly lean, have muscle definition, the whole nine yards. I have been following a Ketogenic/Paleo combination eating plan since 2014. I have also been throwing in what I've known about my blood type O+ . Gluten and grains don't agree with type O. My gluten issues started in the 1980's when it wasn't a household name. Plenty of homework to do on the matter? You bet and I have learned so much these 30 or so years. After reading Dr. Peter Osborne's book "No Grain-No Pain", as of July 2016, no grains or gluten except organic non gmo microwave popcorn 🍿 come through my apartment. That's not very often either. That was the best decision I ever made...lost inches too. My clothes are for sure a clear indicator. I don't own a scale and haven't since the 1980's. BTW - nightshade veggies are a no-no for type O. They contain a natural compound "solanine" that will aggravate arthritic conditions. I found this out ten years ago by accident. Fats? Grass fed buttah, organic ghee, organic extra virgin coconut oil, and organic 100% olive oil are all that I use. Red wine 🍷 has managed to sneak in at times. Believe me I do try to stick to my guns 80% of the time. 🤓🌹

I had no idea what I was doing I just knew I wanted to cut out the sugar, the bad fats and increase the good ones, etc. But I had to have a hysterectomy at 54 and everything has been out of whack ever since. I have always taken the ceylon cinnamon which helped me tremendously, because I always had spikes in my blood sugar. But thank you for this simple but very informative breakdown. I recently lost 5lbs, but now I feel armed with the correct info to increase that number and get back on track. GOD Bless you.

Congratulations! Yours is the best, the clearest explanation of the effect of carbs on our body that I've come across on KZbin! I'm a convert to a low carb diet and intermittent fasting, which I've done for 15 months, losing 15kg (33 lbs) in 3 months, reversing diabetes and normalising my blood pressure (important as I've turned 60). After reaching my ideal weight, I've been less strict just maintaining that weight. However, it's been difficult to convince overweight friends to follow this diet, even though they can see the results. They think I'm doing something crazy and unhealthy, as "carbs give us energy" and "fats cause cholesterol". No use telling them my cholesterol has normalised! It's perverse, the indoctrination of the past decades is hard to overcome!! There are several other KZbinrs advocating low carbs and IF, but their explanations are often long-winded or over-complicated. Today I discovered your channel, and I'm so impressed by your simple, to-the-point explanation, I think it might convince even the biggest sceptics to at least listen. If it's okay with you, I'm going to share your video with all the friends I've been trying to convince all this time. Keep up the great work!

I’m curious...what do you consider the amount of carbohydrates as daily intake to be “low carb”....25 grams? 55 grams a day? We hear lo carb over and over again, but we never hear an easy rule of thumb formula to figure out what a doable amount of grams is for our individual needs. Can you please help with this? Keto is out of the question for me, But lo carb I could do IF I had a goal amount of grams for the day. Thank you for your videos! You are clear concise and do a great job sharing this valuable info!

Great video. Personally the one thing that actually worked for me was to comprehend that you are playing the HIGH/LOW insulin game rather than the calorie or fat game I had been taught all my life. The most obvious way to simplify what you eat is to plan on having a Protein and a salad or a protein and mixed vegetables with lunch and dinner. And to help you avoid high carb foods it helps to comprehend why you shouldn't have them. When I learned that refined carbs and sugars especially high fructose sugars are in effect laboratory created pharmaceutical grade sugars and carbs that spike your insulin it finally made sense to me. The reason whole grains are better carbs is they are time released. How many times have you heard about someone's poodle or cat being diabetic or having kidney failure. It is often because the main ingredient in there foods are high carb grains like corn or rice or other grains. Things your cat and dog were never intended to eat. Also the more you know about global food companies and the world's food supply you learn that the Government food pyramid is a lie and turned upside down. It is a geopolitical creation meant to use grains to feed and fatten 7 billion people but not necessarily make them healthy. Also, be aware of food additives like MSG and the whole family of MSG ingredients like hydrolyzed proteins, dextrose, vegetable broth in tuna (sounds innocent but it is really MSG and causes tumors in rats). There are about a dozen ingredients that hide MSG. The problem is that MSG is like a drug that forces your body to pack on weight. The same people who put fat packing additives in most of your foods also own the multi billion dollar a year diet supplement companies. You are being played, drugged and raped financially coming and going by globalist companies but they can only do this if you let them. The problem is once you begin avoiding these ridiculous unhealthy food additives it makes walking through your local grocery store an unpleasant experience because suddenly 85% of everything on the shelf is off limits. But once you begin to notice all these additives a light bulb will go on in your head and you will understand why Americans are so fat and while you have had such a hard time losing weight. Also if you suffer from migrains or irritable bowel syndrome you owe this list more than a passing glance because it may be due to sensitivity to these additives. * Glutamic Acid • Glutamate • Monosodium Glutamate • Monopotassium Glutamate • Calcium Glutamate • Monoammonium Glutamate • Magnesium Glutamate • Natrium Glutamate • Yeast Extract • Anything hydrolyzed • Any hydrolyzed protein • Calcium Caseinate • Sodium Caseinate • Yeast Food • Yeast Nutrient • Autolyzed Yeast • Gelatin • Textured Protein • Soy Protein Isolate • Whey Protein Isolate • Anything :protein • Vetsin • Ajinomoto

Asbestos used to work... Or clay, plaster etc... Dehydrated white leafy greens can be ground into a bulking agent, add ground sunflower seeds for a small improvement.... Mineral oil lipid alternative etc etc... Salted bearing grease instead of butter. If you isolated protein from vegan sources you can make some cool stuff...

Dr Beck G. You make so much sense!!! I have been I’have been overweight for some time and pumped with so much insulin and other meds. I felt like I was going 😜. I am returning to a time when I remember what my parents and grandparents ate out on the farm and how they survived without all the processed food. They ate plenty of pig and pig fat, drank plenty of whole milk and had plenty of butter yet they stayed thin. I’m sure part of that is working on the farm but our farm was small so it wasn’t such a bad chore. I have been so frustrated and so ill. I have been on the keto diet with some of the other Md’s on line and i have lost over 30 pounds in the last 3 weeks. I am aware that there is a water loss there but hey I’ll take whatever and still be proud. My friend said to me one day. God did not make rivers of pop or fields of cereals and processed grains. So why are we so full of ourself and eat all sorts of junk. Unfortunately my family and I have been living to see what the next meal would entertain us instead of eating to live a wholesome life.....Thank you very much for you non judgemental way of explaining to us folks that have fallen on the wayside :)
