Bill Melody (the tall, deep voiced guy) & Bobby Hatfield (the tenor with that incredible range) were simply consummate professionals. They paired their individual talents into one heck of a powerhouse back in the day. This was also the time when Mo Town was coming into it's own. I was blessed to grow up with this music around me. When I was young, I was busy with the business of life and could not always take the time to enjoy all of these great songs. Now that I'm retired, I make it a point to listen to many different genre's of music and catch up on the talented contributions so many artists have made. It did not escape me that the look in your eyes and your halting breath that this song was connecting with you.

There are only two members in “The Righteous Brothers”-Bobby Hatfield (tenor, he sings “Unchained Melody”-(that’s not a third brother!) and Bill Medley (bass). They were both 24 at the time of this performance. Sadly, Bobby died in 2003 at the age of 63. Bill Medley did a duet with Jennifer Warnes in 1987-“(I’ve Had) The Time of My life”-from the movie “Dirty dancing” with Patrick Swayze add Jennifer Grey. Bill is now 80 years old, and still performs occasionally!

This was written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil who also wrote Soul & Inspiration. This was produced by Phil Spector who was the first Superstar Record Producer. If you can check out his other productions. The Crystals (Da Doo Run Run, & He's A Rebel), The Ronettes (Be My Baby), and Ike & Tina Turner (River Deep Mountain High). The Show they are on is Shindig which was one of many popular Rock & Roll Shows in the 1960's. The Ladies at The Top, are Dancers, The Black Ladies are The Blossoms and The Guys on The Right are The Wellingtons who sang backup for artists who came on the show. Phil Spector's Legacy is still very strong. He influenced Michael Tretow Abba's Producer as well as Xenomania who besides giving Cher her Comeback Hit Believe gave Girls Aloud the most successful Group out of Reality TV virtually ever hit record that they had.

AFTER IT CAME OUT in 1964 it became the most played song on radio and television in the 20th century. (this is long before youtube) it racked up over 8,000,000 (eight million) plays. They have been inducted into THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. Sadly Bobby Hatfield (on the left) has passed away. Bill Medley sang (in a duet) the theme song for the movie DIRTY DANCING. Bobby's song Unchained Melody was featured in the movie GHOST in probably one of the sexiest scenes (with their clothed on) in movies.

The high falsetto/tenor voice belongs to the late great Bobby Hatfield who sang, and owns 'Unchained Melody.' The baritone/base voice is that of Bill Medley together they made magic. The world is finally hearing, and seeing what we baby boomers (1946-1964) generation have already witness. Finally they are getting the love and respect, and the notoriety they most definitely deserve. Great reaction to the greatest duet in music...

Many younger listeners perhaps only know this song from the movie Top Gun...but it was as another person pointed out the most played song on the radio of the entire 20th Century. Bobby Hatfield who won the coin toss and got to record Unchained Melody passed away years ago...he could have been a professional baseball player instead, but fortunately for the world instead provided us with his superb 3 octave vocal talent. His partner Bill Medley still tours today with a replacement partner since Bobby died. Still wowing audiences. Just as most listeners perhaps know Unchained Melody from the movie Ghost [the live version is far superior to the studio/radio version used in the movie.]...Bill Medley's voice is probably best known to younger listeners from the song "I've Had The Time of My Life" in the movie Dirty Dancing - performer with Jennifer Warren. Try: Tom Jones [1967] I'll Never Fall in Love Again and The Bee Gees: Too Much Heaven No More
