The concept has always been fun and ridiculous. I prefer obvious sets, cheap SFX, and comedic delivery. Or, if you're going to attempt a more serious portrayal, animate it like Superman TAS. You have to make a whole world where something like Superman makes sense. It will 100% fail if you just try to shoehorn the last Kryptonian into the real world. A series that was determined to make itself timeless, and it definitely succeeded in its first season. I loved everything about this series from being a superhero rom-com that wasn’t the norm at the time to being indirectly responsible for the Death of Superman comic. This had a lot of influence.
@ctrlaltdelete200390 Жыл бұрын
Can you explain how it lead to the Death of Superman? I don't know
@darkcloudXIV Жыл бұрын
@@ctrlaltdelete200390 so, Superman media was at an all time high by the time Lois & Clark was being made: the comic book was rebooted and gave Superman his more well known and now standard powers (and got rid of his more obscure ones), cartoons were being made, etc, it was just a really good time to be a Superman fan. The comics had progressed to a point where Superman and Lois were in a relationship, and lead to Clark proposing to Lois and she accepted. At this point, the writers were planning to make the next round of stories for the following year to lead up to the two characters have their wedding. This was when Lois & Clark was being written and filmed. Now, one of the writers in particular (I can’t remember his name for the life of me) always started their meetings with the same suggestion every single time: “LET’S KILL HIM OFF!” And the other writers would basically say, “That’s very nice. Here’s a cookie, go sit in the corner, the grown-ups have to work now,” and from there they’d proceed to make scripts for the rest of the year, etc. The writers submitted their plans and what they wanted to do, but the higher ups interfered and told them not to do it; they wanted to wait until Lois & Clark built up enough momentum to where they’d have their own wedding, and cash in with their own wedding story. This was a problem for the writers because their whole plan was the wedding, and they didn’t have any ideas at that point. Cue the aforementioned writer with his usual, “LET’S KILL HIM OFF!” And the rest of the writers admit that they weren’t sure if they were desperate, fatigued, frustrated, or what, but after that suggestion they all looked at each other and said, “…Yeah…LET’S KILL HIM OFF!” And from there, they wrote the Death of Superman.

@@RazorO2Productions Brandon Routh had the trunks, but that's where the accuracy ends... No S on the cape. Colors are atrocious. Rubber belt, S symbols on literally everything, on the boots, on the belt, even on the S 😂 Cape looks like a fruit roll up, or brown leather. Boots look made of rubber. Trunks look like a swimming speedo, neckline is too tight, cape hangs funky. S symbol is too small and looks like a car brand logo.

I like how Christopher Reeve and Margot kidder as well as having good on screen chemistry aren't too good looking. They're both picked for how they are in their roles rather than being perfect looking. They're both 8/10 good looking but not picked mainly for their looks. The later supermans and lois lanes are perfect looking and the screen chemistry isn't as good. It's almost like they've just been picked for being that good looking and having some resemblance to how they should look rather than the chemistry you get with Christopher and Margot is my point.

dean cain's superman feels like it could evolve into multiple of the other supermen with time. physique-wise, he hasthe hair and the barrel chest that George Reeves' superman had. mannerism-wise i could buy this being a young Chris Reeve's superman. the dialogue and delivery in this scene is very reminiscent of the DCAU Superman, specifically the monologue against darkseid("I feel like i live in a world made of cardboard..."). the only superman i don't see in cain's version is the old animated Fleischer studios superman. overall this was the perfect tv superman for the time, he was his own iteration, but didn't deviate too drastically from the film versions of the time and held onto the contributions of the previous iterations that made them iconic.
