Another great feeling is when you find and reread a book from when you were a kid and you still enjoy it as an adult.

I have NOS4A2 sitting on my shelf currently haven't read it yet, but I'm excited to. Good to hear you love it now, I think I'll probably read it in December, love me some Joe Hill. I think it's cool that you went back and gave these books a second shot. I have a couple that I feel like I should do that with.

I read A Prayer for Owen Meany, and didn’t understand what all the hype was about. I loved Cider House Rules, but everyone put Owen (and Garp) on their all time faves. I just bought it at a used book store when I saw it in order to try it again. I’m crossing my fingers.

This happened to me with The Haunting of Hill House. The first time I read it (a few years ago) I didn’t like it at all. However I decided to give it another chance two weeks ago and I loved it. I read it in two days. I think it’s because I was reading it for what I wanted it to be (focused on scares and thrills) instead of for what it was (more subtle and character driven). I’ve also noticed as years go by I like more character development and not just the action. I didn’t like Let the Right One In when I read it a few years ago but it’s one of the few I want to try again. Another one that comes to mind is I am Legend.

I’ve just finished reading Red X and it really made an impression on me. It was such a unique and layered read and one that I will be thinking about for a long time. It’s not a book that would’ve otherwise appeared on my radar, so thanks so much for recommending it.

I very rarely reread books but thinking about it, it would be really fun to check out some books and see how my thoughts about them hold up especially when it's been a while since my first read. I love this video idea- it's nice that sometimes a new favorite isn't immediately obvious and just need to wait until we are in a different season of life to try it again 👻

The biggest one for me has been My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones. Initially I was listening to the audiobook version but the narrative was so stream-of-consciousness that I couldn't follow what was happening at all, so I dropped it pretty quick. Well recently I tried again with the e-book version and I couldn't put it down! I ended up really really enjoying it.

I still need to read Red X. That sounds right up my alley. The book I changed my mind on was Jaws. I read it when I was young, and I had all of the complaints that most people have about the novel. For some reason, I decided to read it again a couple of years ago, and I wound up loving. I appreciated, for lack of a better term, worldbuilding involved bringing Amity, and its cast of characters alive. The reporter, Harry, wound up being my favorite character. I even had a different view of the subplot between Hooper and Ellen. As a, then 45-year-old woman, while I am absolutely against the choice Ellen made, I, at least, understood why she was tempted by Hooper. The novel is still not as good as the movie, but it is still worth the read.

I read The Exorcist in the summer of ‘72. Was interested in seeing how the author drew upon superstition to manipulate the reader to achieve his effect. It was instructive. Never a fan. The movie came out later, but I’ve been happy to skip it for the past half-century.

Just thought I would throw a recommendation your way. The Terror at Miskatonic Falls edited by Kevin Lucia and illustrated by Brady Moller and Danny Evarts. It is not a graphic novel, it simply has small illustrations. For me this story had a high creep factor. I liked that. I'm not one for slasher stuff where the horror is defined by how much blood and guts are spilled. The Long Man is coming! The horror that occurred in Miskatonic Falls is driven by the lack of obvious victims. What happened to the people if Miskatonic Falls, most of whom disappeared leaving only their clothes behind, and poems written on scraps of paper, or carved on utility poles, table tops, counters tops, walls and floors? The poems drive the story, written by towns people, some in hiding , some apparently insane. The poems are each written by a different author, thus Lucia as editor, not author. Who is the Long Man; the devil, a demon? Why choose this little town as victim? My only difficulty with this book was being interrupted by life to keep me from reading it in one sitting.

I'm currently reading NOS4A2 and I have to say I'm really struggling I love the concept but I find Vic to be very unlikable as a character, it might just be a me thing but not having a likeable main character is a problem that a lot of horror has these days in my opinion both in movies and books.
