I feel like Rebecca's character was butchered in the movie version. They tried to give her this whole empowered woman arc - which is great, I'm all for that. But then they completely ditched the weener poop scene from the book. It clearly wasn't in line with Stotch's original vision for the character and I just couldn't enjoy the film after this

Because it was a Blumhouse movie I was expecting it to be one of their usual PG-13 bloodfests that is a concept of “What if this family friendly/childhood/playtime thing was a spooky killer/killing force?” But it’s more like baby’s first horror movie and is just a spooky atmosphere for an hour or so then a monster shows up. Out in the lobby there was a little kid being congratulated by his family for making through his first horror movie without being too scared.
@nooneofnote84539 ай бұрын

I am glad my siblings who are way older than me introduced me to great horror films when I was like 5 or 6. This included Hellraiser, Friday The 13th, Nightmare One Elm Street, Alien, Scanners, The Thing, Dracula flics (and also those really awesome horror flicks from the 30s and 40s) Event Horizon, Evil Dead series, The Crow, zombie flicks and much more! I thought it was cool. Never got any nightmares or anything like that. Most of my nightmares were things like giant shapes (squares, circles..) growing bigger and getting closer to me or actual real nightmares like my dog dying. I still love horror movies although the Genre kind of sucks now. I did enjoy the Ash vs the Dead but that is just a continuation of an old IP. Dracula is probably my fav horror character, especially considering the real man is WAY more scarier than the movies and books.

I cracked up when they put the Blumhouse founder on an episode of Shark Tank and he touted how much money Paranormal Activity made, which we all know, and had pretty much nothing else to say cause they put out nothing but extreme mid. Also: he brags about how their goal is basically to make a profit with as low a budget as possible. Which is evident if you've watched any of them..

*When I was younger* I had this idea for a horror story involving an “Imaginary friend” once.. it was about a kid and his loveable, whimsical childhood best friend that nobody could see.. but the kid is actually an undiagnosed psychopath and corrupts his imaginary, childhood bestie to be the accomplice to his murders.. years later a detective with unresolved childhood issues takes *HIS OWN* childhood “imaginary” friend to hunt down the killer.. guys i need crowd funding or nepotistic connections or I’m screwed and won’t make it in Hollywood - pls help.

FNAF 4 had a much cooler concept of having plush toys turning into scary nightmare animals before it was cool, this movie, judging by the trailers heavily focused on using the sudden appearance, loud noises and flashing lights to generate jumpscares, but FNAF did much less with it as it gets too repetitive, plus it was made for the fans of the franchise, Imaginary took that concept and overused the trend of the sudden appearance of the monster, loud noises and flashing lights whenever a chase and a kill occurs, if anything the film should've use the shadows whenever the teddy forms into the monster to generate actual suspense for much longer instead of just 5 seconds of silence and then a jumpscare, kill or a chase scene happens

Honestly, the concept of the movie isn’t really that bad. They honestly could’ve taken inspiration from nightmares on Elm Street and how Freddy Krueger was tormenting the kids in their dreams. Maybe the movie honestly could’ve been about parents and children of divorce and how they end up going into very harmful coping mechanisms when they’re usually brought into situations like these, and the imaginary friend could possibly be a metaphor or a strong manifestation of the child's emotions, becoming more unstable, AKA, their hatred for their new stepparent or possibly the child’s parent ended up dying, and their spirit ended latching onto their child still after death. Possessing the toy, and of course the bear is only ever aggressive or violent, is when the child is trying to connect with their new stepparent, or the stepparent is trying to form a form of connection with the child, and the spirit is trying to do whatever it takes to break any form of connection, no matter if it hurts the child themselves. And honestly, it could also be a very good metaphor for how some parents are very toxic and get into the minds of their own children, making the stepparents seem like the villains and also seeing their other parent as a villain for breaking the family apart, or moving onto a new relationship, which won’t be a horror movie in and of itself, but they could still add horror elements if the child’s parents were very abusive and manipulative to the child. (Also no I haven’t seen the movie)

actually from the synopsis i like that the mom mentioned that it was her allergy medication, because i was thinking he had like opioids or something and was rolling my eyes at "left eye seeing in the future" and "tripping", but if it was an antihistamine that actually makes perfect sense, they're deliriants. most intense (and unpleasant) altered state i've ever been in was on benadryl. so yeah that was a tidy plot hole close imo
