Thanks for watching! Are any nervous about being lonely while traveling alone?
@mancunianinlondon Жыл бұрын
I travel solo a lot and have seen couples in restaurants who dont say a word to each other. No conversation at all. I see this often and wonder why they go on holidays together. It just appears senseless. The most awkward part of solo travel is dining alone in the evening. Sometines you do get stares, judgemental looks and comments. You have to harden up. See the world if you want to or you will merely sit there watching netflix forever and never live
@KRodCollective Жыл бұрын
This!!! I too feel like dinner alone in the evenings always has some sort of awkwardness to it. I agree with you, we have to live our lives regardless if you want to see the world. 💕

As a man that’s divorced after 25 years of marriage and traveling with my wife and kids, I can totally relate. I can’t remember having a sad moment so low as when I first boarded a plane without my family… Thankfully I used to travel solo when I was single. It still bums me out seeing couples and families while I’m out. But I can’t say that I’ve ever been somewhere and haven’t had a great time talking to the locals and other travelers. Sometimes it’s not the destination and environment that draws me back for a return visit. It’s the people.

I imagine that first trip without your family was so difficult. Thank you for sharing this with us. 💕I totally agree, sometimes my love for certain destinations is because I love the people so much!

I really wanna solo travel and for me loneliness is definitely what makes me feel the most intimidated by solo travel. I'm generally content with my own company but loneliness definitely creeps in when I see others 'having a better time', and this can even happen at home too. For me, solo traveling feels like a HUGE jump out of my comfort zone, because I want to go somewhere where I feel like I have a chance at meeting solo travellers, and is culturally and linguistically more in my comfort zone (likely Europe - I speak English and French). But, Europe is so far lol and to make it worth my time and $$, I feel like I need to go for a least a month. Anyways...yes, I totally need to remember my 'why'; I love travel and it really helps me to understand and make sense of this world and my place in it. I'm also at a place where I want to grow and build my confidence, and I think solo travel will help with this. Thank you for this advice!
@KRodCollective3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nadia! Thank you for watching! 😄 I totally understand this. We are in the same boat and you are certainly not alone in that. I will be doing just fine with my own company and content with whatever I'm doing, but the minute I look over and see someone else 'having a better time,' those feelings will instantly come to haunt me. LOL I hope you get a chance to try solo traveling, if you haven't already! If you do, please let me know what you think and how it was for you. And sometimes you never know. I have been on trips totally expecting to make friends and meet people and I meet NO ONE. But then I'll go on a different trip expecting to enjoy all my time by myself and end up meeting the best people. 💕

Maybe try staying in a hostel - most have private rooms too - and then you can get together with other people, cook, explore etc. Lots of cheap or free tours from hostels. (And I’m 60 years old.)

You hit the nail in the head for me? I've been wanting to solo travel but I know loneliness will cause me to feel depressed
@Iamstaceek2 жыл бұрын
I think solo traveling will make most of us feel Lonely like you said but I also believe that there are some GREAT benefits traveling alone. One benefit is 1. You have to solely depend on God to be with you and to lead you. 2. You become more self aware of yourself and begin to trust yourself with the journey. You'll never truly know who you are and what you are capable of until you travel by yourself 3. You have the opportunity to meet new people and build relationships that may last a long time. 4. You have the opportunity to learn about different cities, states, countries or even cultures. And there are plenty of more benefits but trust the process.

Yes to all of this Stacee! I have met so many incredible people while traveling by myself and I try myself more now than ever before because of it too. So many great benefits! 💕

I have felt before so lonely in different cities going by myself, but also going with people, and I have learned that being single and doing solo travel is something I won’t regret because for years I wanted to have the economic resources and the freedom of being single. I have so many friends who are unhappy with their relationships or even marriages. I know we have a life on social media, but also one who is really ours. Thanks for your video!

Before coming out as gay, I traveled from Australia to Europe in my mid twenties, and remember the “lonely” feeling hitting me when I’d sit at a cafe people watching or walk into a bar on my own or sit in the park for a picnic. It took some adjusting to sit still and find some joy in solitude. The loneliness came and went in waves, but it’s definitely a skill to learn and as I get older I like finding people I travel well with to have at least one or two familiar faces. At home you know friends and family aren’t far, but being 20 hrs or more away from home is a different experience. Thanks for sharing your insights!

I love this! Thank you so much for sharing such a thoughtful comment. That’s the best way to describe it. It comes in waves and just like you, I’ve had to adjust and sometimes sit with those feelings as I knew solo traveling would never exit my life. And I still get a little lonely from time to time depending on the trip and where I am in my life. Thank you as well for sharing your experiences with us! ❤️

Thank you so much for this 💗💖💓❤️ I feel burnt out from flaky friends. Im a big believer now in not waiting for someone to choose me to go do things. Even small stuff like movies, out skating, see a show etc ive constantly have people flake on me. Im starting to get comforable doing things alone - going out to eat, watching a show, going for walks, driving a city over etc. Ive gotten comments that judge me negatively for doing it alone. My next goals are to travel to cities nearby (3hrs or less) and spending the whole day there or the weekend alone and seeing how I like it. Im wondering if documenting my time there will help with loneliness or entertainment while alone. Feels boring to drive to another city to eat and then just scroll social media or watch tv. So i think making short vlogs as my way of journaling is a more positive way to enjoy that time alone. I love this and so happy i found your channel. Thanks for being vunerable here and sharing because I needed to hear it! 🙏🏾

Hiiii!!! Aww thank yoU! Ugh, yes! The flakiness is something I will never understand. 🙄Never mind the people who want to judge you and say negative things! I have gotten the same and I love that you are not letting other people hold you back from enjoying and doing the things that you want to do and experience. Sometimes ppl will always have something negative to say. GOOD FOR YOU! Yes! Documenting it sounds like such a great idea. Mini travel vlogs! So fun!! Sometimes when I'm driving by myself to a different city, I love to play a good podcast or I'll make a great playlist before I go. Happy and safe travels to you! You got this! 🤗💕

I totally relate when you mentioned flaky friends ruining plans! I had this problem in the past but now am willing to go to local events solo. As far as travel goes, I admire people who can travel solo. I have not gotten to that point yet because I find the airport process overwhelming. Last month, I went on a great trip to Northern Europe. I went with a relative and tour group.

I am an introvert and I have a bit of social anxiety, and at the same time I love travelling, so I travel most of my life solo. It can definetly be very challenging at times to put myself our of my comfort zone, but its also so liberating and enriching. You learn so much and grow so much! You learn to overcome so many of your fears aswell.. And loneliness is definetly something that will come with solo travelling, but as you say in your video - its perfectly ok to feel lonely! I understand completely! I am heading to Istanbul again in September for 3 months. This will be my 7th solo trip to Turkey. During past trips, I remember being been hit with bouts of loneliness and having momentary pity parties! Lots of "woe is me!" moments. LOL But thank goodness I was able to move on past it because I would remember my grandfather telling me as a kid to "pull yourself up by your bootstraps", in other words, reminding me that I will get past it. I have made great friends in Istanbul, so I know they are only a phone call away if I need to talk to someone or visit. And I have a family at home, just a text message or video chat away. Totally agree, it's ok to feel lonely. And I have cried, too! So glad I found your videos just before my upcoming trip!

Thank you for this video! You inspired me with your honesty and determination of moving to Spain back then. You followed your own voice instead of other's and it turned out great. I did some experiments for myself like working in Spain for a few weeks and later on had a solo vacation there. Next week I step it up and go 3 weeks to Thailand. Sometimes I wish I could experience some cool moments live with a friend and that's when the loneliness comes up. Overall I like the independency, the surprises that God might have in store and to 'feed' my spirit by escaping my comfort life once in a while. I just don't need to worry about what other people might think and trust my inner voice like you did :)

I find it really hard travelling solo. For me personally as I’m currently living in Australia I find it hard to make a core group of friends because everyone is moving around all the time so the friends you do make only last a couple of days or weeks. I only have 1 friend here in Melbourne and it’s difficult tbh. I feel like doing things on my own is boring and not exciting, plus I find most activities to do are made for at least two or more. The only solo activity I find is walking around the park or going to the movies. I feel like when I’m doing things it’s not because I want to do them but because I’m bored and don’t have anyone to spend time with so I end up just going for long walks. Hopefully it gets easier but who knows. My therapist told me that I’m lacking deep social connections which is true because I’m a people person

I relate to this so much more than you know. I totally get it. I've moved aroung a little bit and I've def had ups and downs with making friends and being in community at different times. And I understand where you're coming from in terms of not necessarily choosing to do things by yourself, but rather forced too. Although I love doing things alone and solo traveling, there are times where I'm like "Ehhh, I'm over this. I'd rather be with a friend." Have grace for yourself and know that you are NOT alone. I don't know exactly how to 'fix' this per say, but just wanted you to know that I have the same thoughts and struggle with this as well. 💕

I have my first international solo trip booked for Jamaica. I’m not so much concerned about general loneliness, but as a Black woman I’m more concerned with racism/prejudice (which is why I picked a place full of Black people for my first trip) and feeling alone amongst other cultures. Would love if you could do a video about places that are safe/unsafe/uncomfortable for solo Black women in particular. For example I was looking at nice places in Florida…but then I wondered if I would be the only Black person in an expensive place in a red state and I just 😅
