Replace the old pain in the rump fuel can spouts with EZ Pour spout kits. Like most people, I can't stand the new style "safety" spouts. They are the blight of lawnmower owners everywhere. I show you how to retrofit those pain in the rump gas can spouts with an actual normal spout you can get at Tractor Supply Co. The can I fix in this video is for a diesel tractor, but you get the idea.

Two years ago I took this man’s advice. went TSC and converted about 8 gas and kerosene jugs, and haven’t looked back. No more spills, no more wrestling with the safety trigger, no more over flows; just clean no mess reliable fuel exchange every time. The spout conversion kits sold at Tractor Supply are good quality and easy to install. If your tired of this portion of the EPA’S encroachment in you life, this is a simple remedy. DO IT. You will be pleased with yourself.

So far so good. I’ve filled it twice and it’s great getting 13 gallons at one shot kzbin.infoUgkx-vlHjazTv30m_UAq9Ht-fuPo2jBx7tTx . It pumps out by using gravity so the bottom of the tank needs to be above the vessel you're filling. Not a drop spilled filling the generator three times. Let’s see where we’re at after 20 fills.

Another example of the California influence on the rest of the country. Most of these plastic jugs are manufactured in China and are designed to comply with California standards. The spout vent is supposed to draw up gas fumes escaping the tank into the jug just like a California type gas nozzle at the pump. These "eco-friendly" innovations are the cause for more spills and wasted gas than any other method of transferring fuel. It's a shame that now you have to pay extra to recreate the trusty ol' tin Jerry Jug and goose neck spout

It was such a pain in the ass to press the spout in just the right position to push the outer sleeve back to allow the gas to flow. In addition, there is no vent, so the bottle collapsed with every chug of gas. I have searched for the old style spouts for years. Thank you so much for sharing this awesome find! Also, Thanks for the link to the spout at Amazon. I plan to share this with my buddy who is as annoyed as I am with the new spouts.

I've a plastic rigid spout on my 25yr old plastic 2.5 gal gas can. I love it I've had numerous flexible ones like yours and mine always split between the ridges. The ridged one is tapered and the last 1/3 at the end is at a 25 degree angle. I've never found another one like it. I've another one like the first one you showed and I took it apart and made a few modifications to it so you don't have to press down when filling the gas tanks.

The reason normal people get mad is they can't believe they're actually that many people out there who can't figure out how to use a simple gas can. It's like we've got to dumb down the gas can so the Jerry's kids out there can use them without spilling gas. seriously how hard can these automatic nozzles be for those special people to operate. You pick up The Jug press a button, put the nozzle into the tank, the weight of the can will automatically open the nozzl and the gas pours out automatically. Then when you're done you lift the can out of the tank it automatically stops pouring gas.... wow how hard was that LOL I wouldn't be surprised if half the people complaining about these gas cans can even tie their own shoes.

I only accidentally came across your video. Thank You!! I have several such cans and have needed a smart solution. The variety of nonsensical designs for spouts proves that some engineers have too much time on their hands and can be assigned projects for which they have NO field experience. I didn’t think to hunt for a KZbin video for such a minor problem. Well presented, and your concern about drilling plastic is worth the time added imo. I will check out more of your videos.

Nice video. Just got my 5 gal gas tank from Lowes. I know what you mean by the "strut" like springs.... yep, it's def not right. I think I have a solution to all those who haven't thrown or destroyed the original nozzle out just yet. There's a simple solution which is to simply remove the spring. It's so easy that you'll kick yourself for not thinking of it in the 1st place. Once the spring is removed.... the plunger slides in & out easily. After the nozzle is improved, just make sure the slide part is located at the top side, not on the under-side or it will def leak. Ok, you probably want to know how to remove the spring without breaking the damn thing. Simply activate the slider & push the slider in...... while holding the slider so it doesn't close ... remove the O-Ring from the other side that prevents leakage... this releases the slider from the nozzle. Then you're ok to remove the "strut" spring. Put back together along with the O-Ring on the plunger side & you have a working nozzle with a functioning locking stopper.

Just use a pair of needle nose pliers and pull the guts out of the spout. Drill a small vent hole in the underside of the handle. I use many cans in my lawnmower business.

I worked for a wind turbine repair team. We had Ford F250 diesels. I bought a yellow diesel 5 gal can and told the drivers NEVER to run the tank dry. Of course they did run the diesel tank so just refilling the tank doesn't recharge the fuel injectors (requiring, if you're lucky, a 5 minute fuel pump cranking while someone held the air bleed valve (like a tire valve) open. Got so often that I'd dock that 5 man team, 1 hour pay unless the driver own up.

I agree these spouts aren't designed to fill up mowers, tractors , etc. It takes two hands and a good aim. But, I discovered the one I have is convenient to put gas in the car. With the old design, I would have to use a funnel, but with these I just turn it upside down and press it into the fill tube , it doesn't open until it's inserted, and it hasn't spilled a drop. For anything else, it's a pain.

YES!! This is the ticket. I do this with gas and diesel cans that I buy cheap at rummage sales. Perfect. I see now that you can buy a two pack of just the vents from the same manufacturer that makes the replacement spouts. Might be better because the vent cap has a tether. I do keep extra tire valve caps in case I lose one on my gas can vent.

I still have a few old style plastic gas cans and the old style spouts, and looking for more at garage and yard sales. If the EPA thinks the new valved spouts are such a good idea maybe the EPA can take their new style spouts and use them for an enema. They're so full of stupid ideas they could use a good flushing. The EPA has outlived their usefulness so now they're going after any little thing to justify their existence.
