The important bit is that the vehicle has a 24 gallon tank, which means you had almost another 2 gallons left go. You had another 8% of the tank left to go which would have given you 8% more range, or roughly 49 more miles. So 660 miles would have been the full tank.

Just drove with the family from the bottom of Texas to the northwest corner of New Mexico through the night in our 2006 Yukon Denali. At the end of the day it’s a giant heavy box being pushed through the air at 80mph. I’m super impressed. Where the speed limits are lower if if you were going 65 to get the max range this thing would probably be knocking on 30mpg door.

aero starts becoming a big issue around 80 mph. Even worse for bricks like this. At a steady 70 it would probably gain 2mpg or so. NOW, take that thing down I10 where it is nice and flat and low altitude and I bet 30mpg is definitely possible at 70mpg. Stay in traffic maybe behind an 18 wheeler where the big rig is pushing all the air and it would be even better.

It still gets 19 MPG and with a 44 gal tank can do over 800 miles on a tank(calculated). Seeing this GMC and the Chevy get 25MPG is awesome. Now if they would get the Z71 or AT4 in the diesel, that may tip me towards a replacement. Also a bigger fuel tank.

You need to get exempt diesel truck (depending where you live) and have all that junk removed from your engine. As soon as my 6.6 duramax was no longer under warranty I removed all the junk off of it and now the engine runs better than when it was new and has not needed to go to the shop since I removed all of that other than just regular maintenance. EGR & DPF will slowly destroy your engine and you’ll be lucky to get 200k miles out of it. With the EGR and DPF it’s just a matter of time before something malfunctions on the system and the computer puts you in to limp mode and leave you on the side of the highway.

Love my 2020 LTZ 1500 3.0l. So far just over 13k miles flawlessly. Wife is beyond comfortable driving it. Towing performs extremely well even at 9k lbs. All hand calc I am getting about 25-26mpg daily driving all colder weather got my truck in Sept. Towing varies my trailer type and load. But 2k extra weight in truck and towing a 9klb loaded trailer it got about 11mpg. Towing snowmobiles and 1 in the bed got about 18-19mpg. Towing suv 7k lb on a flatbed got 14.5mpg. If you want amazing mpg stick to 55mph or 65mph. That's 9th and 10th gear in their sweet spot it seems. When I do that on short runs I see 30mpg+. Driving from Mankato, MN to Minneapolis doing about 65mph on avg truck was at 38mpg on a 60* day. I'm excited to see summer mpg. This 3.0l hates cold weather for mpg. However it never once didn't start for me. Even in -20 temps out on the lake ice fishing all weekend not plugged in.

An electric motor may help city economy, but probably wouldn’t do much if anything on the highway where it’ll have limited opportunities to regen.
@jacobkrzyzek5777
@jacobkrzyzek5777 3 жыл бұрын
@@ALMX5DP Correct and wrong. Combining the two motors will gave you greater work, thus not needing as much energy from the diesel. Around the city you could shut down the diesel and be full electric. An electric motor has its peak energy at zero rpm. Any combustion engine needs to increase its rpm to achieve this using more fuel from a stop. Having an electric motor allows the engine to not need as much fuel to bring up the rpms and move weight, due to the electric motor covering this rpm gap. On the highway, the electric motor would greatly aid the torque numbers helping the diesel move the vehicle with less continuous effort, again needing less fuel to move the vehicle weight. ie: Rolling friction and Newtons law of motion.
@ALMX5DP
@ALMX5DP 3 жыл бұрын
@@jacobkrzyzek5777 I did acknowledge the city benefits, but for the highway an electric motor still needs to get it's energy from somewhere. Diesels have great highway advantages due to their combustion design, so aiding torque figures while already on the move would be minimal. And once battery energy is depleted, it'll just be dead weight until it can recharge (which is few and far between in a highway scenario). That's why most hybrid economy figures favor city over highway.
@jacobkrzyzek5777
@jacobkrzyzek5777 3 жыл бұрын
@@ALMX5DP this is true! a diesel for this reason could also be the battery's charging unit as well as regenerative braking would be helpful....for a long story going back and forth, having a hybrid vehicle does produce better fuel economy, I'm not talking about the end all be all, just something better for today, and a help into the future.

Quiet, comfortable and have only had one issue with a small leak in the radiator at 22k miles. GM replaced and that was that....Nothing engine related at all. Yeah my MPG calc is always off by about 1-1.5 mpg on the low side over a full tank. BUT...it WILL burn oil if you're pushing it 80+ in hot weather for a few days. Just how low tension rings will act. Nothing to worry about though. A friend of mine is a 27 year GM master tech and said a quart of oil over 5k miles if running loaded/hot/fast is NOT an issue but just a fact of life with these engines. Under normal driving I don't lose any over my normal 5-7k OCI though.

You are traveling I-80. From Boulder to Denver is nice. from Denver on it is a gradual down grade. approximately 5000 feet to about 500 feet of altitude over 800 miles seems like no big deal. I drove a big truck, on that route, eastbound, I went from 6.2 mpg to 6.5 mpg, in the summer, with a 500HP Cummins and full trailer of freight. I got almost half a MPG better going east than going west. That was a regular route and my company paid a fuel bonus, so I figured out how to get the best economy out of the truck. it seems this truck is designed to run at 70 MPH. imagine what It would do at 65 mph. It would be interesting to do the same run the other direction and get a comparative, unless you, like me, enjoy being home to much. That is one of the joys of not driving trucks anymore.
