Me well always loved horses mom didn’t would have loved more than anything to have a career with horses nothing makes me happier than being round horses,envy people like you and Steve who have made their life with horses a career. Keep up the good work you do. Lovely young filly,like the name Skittles.

Skittles is a great name. I really like the name Flame for a red mare--comes from a book I read as a kid--but that's probably asking for trouble! Thank you for showing us how you work with a reactive horse. I have one myself, and it's taken a lot of patience for her to come around, but it was totally worth it!

Skittles is the perfect name for her. You have done an amazing job with this filly that was so let down by her breeder/former owners. I think she too will make a great horse under your training. She's come a long way in a short time. I feel I was really blessed raising my 3 foals from birth till death that they were never reactive or explosive. It all comes down to the handling and teaching. Keep up the good work. I guess I was really their leader and they trusted me. Lost my last horse at age 25 last November. My horses were pig , semi, hiway, farm equipment, vehicle, train proof. I am afraid I will never have that again now that I am older - closer to 70 than 17 !

Very interesting video.Super reactive but also left brain.Big difference in her attitude, willingness to try after you worked on the leadership. I really took to this filly, maybe because most of the young horses i've had in my life have been pretty Left brain and quite opinionated. I think I have learned more from theLBs as I have had to be a lot more creative and have a sense of humour and no ego!!! Do make some more vids with Skittles! We love her!

She is also very young. I’m quite amazed that people ride very young horses whose bones havent even set. Because she is so young she reminds me of young people who just need time to use their reasoning which for a horse whose neocortex is nowhere near our size, this is hard for her. Mr rose is doing really well but she may just have needed a slower process. Some are more confident and also some are not so intelligent. I also think that doing things they like and becoming their friend like taking them for walks, foraging as you go, and showing them things and…laughing , that really helps.

Skittles reminds me a lot of a mare I purchased earlier this year. She was portrayed "kid safe and broke." She's anything but, she was shut down. I've never seen a Haflinger be so flighty and reactive. It has been a challenge, but working through her insecurities and I really appreciate seeing a horse that responds so much like hers to reaffirm that I'm on the right track based on how you're handling Skittles. River's reactivity/light feet (per say) is literally on par with Skittles. As always, love your videos, so thorough and mindful.

@sherrieshatzen3801 Жыл бұрын
I notice how everyone likes Skittles as her name because she appears to be skittish. I actually think she is going to mature into a confidant horse. What the skittish behaviour right now is telling us is that she has either not been handled or has been mishandled up to this point. She is learning what competent handling & training feels like & it seems as if she likes what is happening. I would not name her Skittles because I believe there is a speciic energy attached to a name. Since I would not want her to become a horse who is skittish for the rest of her life I would choose a name that allows her to leave the skittishness behind once she is no longer feeling as if she has to constantly be so defended.
@KM-lu7nh Жыл бұрын
@@sherrieshatzen3801 That may not have been Ryan's reason for naming her that, it was only my interpretation.

I like the way you're working with a horse. I was but now retired manager of a large horse farm in central Florida where at one time I had about 50 horses to take care of. All were quarter horses out of good stock most were broodmares so I was in charge of breeding,feeding, grooming, health and when spring babies dropped taking them up to selling them after reaching their two year old point ready to ride and see what they were good at. Most of the training was geared toward western pleasure because these horses were out of that lines. Most were quarter paint mix double registered. So I was using much of what Ryan is doing to make gentle 3 beat western pleasure horses.out of them. So training was exactly what Ryan is doing but I had the advantage of working with them from the time they foal up to two and three year olds. Lot of work but I loved working with horses and training riders. Keep up the good work Ryan I think you're methods show you have a natural understanding of how a horse thinks since we are predators and horse are prey animals building trust is the key.
