WARNING: EQS owner here - to all the people praising the EQ series, remember this. Mercedes will NOT update your updateable car with any new features. If purchased, beware that you'll own the car for its lifetime with no new features, while seeing new software-only features appear on newer, cheaper models or even new model years of the exact same vehicle (stuff that could have been delivered to you). Note, I'm still happy with the EV itself, but terribly unhappy with the way Mercedes is just ignoring updateability in such expensive, vehicles that were advertised as updateable. So disappointing. Happy to provide details, including MBUX versions, specific features, etc.

I have the EQS 580, just took a road trip with my wife to visit our grandson and daughter of course from Phoenix to Charlotte North Carolina. Mileage was not as good as the 450, but then again I was averaging 80 mph and running full AC. The 580 comfortably gave me about 200 miles with 50 to 80 miles left. I took it from 100% charge to about 20 or 25%. I might say that the trip cost $0.00 in charging as Mercedes has on top of the 2 years free (30 minute) charging, between May and October 2023 they are allowing free charging unlimited. As such charging from 20% to 90% or 100% took about 40 minutes on average but it was free. The trip was fabulous as we traveled through 10 states. The 580 was smooth and very comfortable, set it on cruise and it drives itself, there is a 30 second alert that beeps until you put your hands back on the steering wheel but it still offer relief from driving long distances. Love the 580!❤😊

@@Camwill78 Definitely, best car that we have owned. I have 13K miles on mine. I guess the draw back is mileage, on long trips out of state I get about 200 miles between charges. But I drive it as a regular car , high speed, cold ac, and use all the interior comforts (massage). The ride is unmatched and I have a Lexus and Model S (son’s) to compare. I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. As I trade it in next year, my wife already said, make it another 580. We test drove the Mercedes S580, but it just doesn’t compare to the openness and comfort of the 580.

Nerd tip, Mercedes is using the "+" sign in the model name to indicate the range maximizing model variant within the lineup. Not sure if they do so in the US, but at least in Europe, Mercedes is selling FWD/RWD and AWD variants, so the single motor variant with the big battery is mostly getting the "+". It seem they're getting rid of the EQ labels, maybe the "+" is also being dropped with the next gen BEVs. Anyway, great result for the EQS!

Kyle, food for thought. You actually went 385 miles. The speedo is off by .0285 percent. Ex) speedo show 68 when going 70 mph. The odometer is calculating at 68 mph vs 70 mph. So for each 70 miles you go you are showing 68 miles. 375 x 1.0285= 385 :-)
@doggytreats1122
@doggytreats1122 10 ай бұрын
The speedo shows speed not distance. So, the velocity travelled does not infer anything about distance. However, each tire has a circumference and that multiplied by pi gives a distance per each tire rotation. Tires that are over or undersized compared to that expected by the vehicle will provide an inaccurate distance. So unless the actual circumference is known, the distance calculated will always be incorrect if not a standard manufacturers size (unless it is possible to adjust that within the car's system settings). I've never seen this on my ID4 menu but I remain on the standard 19" wheels and standard rubber. So Kyle, that's food for thought too.
@robbystewart8088

@doggytreats1122
@doggytreats1122 10 ай бұрын
@@robbystewart8088 No, the odometer uses tire rotation. I did make an error before though. I should have stated that Tire diameter multiplied by pi is the circumference. So one rotation of the tire gives a certain distance. Using the speedo could work if only if you had an accurate average speed and you know the total trip time. Distance = Velocity x Time
@robbystewart8088
@robbystewart8088 10 ай бұрын
@@doggytreats1122 the odometer and the speedometer utilize the input feed/reading from the calculation on tire rotations. It would actually be illegal for them to be different, considered odometer fraud.
@doggytreats1122
@doggytreats1122 10 ай бұрын
@@robbystewart8088 Good that you agree that tire rotation needs to be known and therefore tire circumference matters. That info goes to the odometer to show distance. Meanwhile, the rate at which the tires turn e.g. so many revolutions per second is sent to the speedometer and that shows speed. Odometer (diistance) = Speedometer (velocity) x length of time driven. So now if you imagine that size of the tire was like a hot wheels car, the speed reading at '70'' (tires turning wildly) would actually be a walking pace and the distance would be reported as enormous for just driving around one block.

We have this exact trim with the 20”wheels. Driving on the highway in Southern Arizona, traveling from Phoenix to San Diego, we manage 2.9 miles/kWh, which would give us just over 300 miles of range. BTW I visited BMW Welt in Munich today. The BMW M50 IX looked good. The electric 7 series is even more horrible in person than on screen, a true eyesore. It is also enormous, it makes the EQS seem "compact". It would be no surprise that the upcoming Rolls electric, will simply be a rebadged, utterly costumizable version of it.

doesn't the eqs 450+ have one big screen that covers the entire driver's and passenger's panel?

The plus just indicates the highest range model. All the EQS have the large 107.8kWh usable Battery

I wonder what the range would be in Arizona where I am. 115 degrees and 85 mph is the norm here. 70 mph vehicles are a hazard here

This range test is on point. Took a road trip a week ago in sizzling Arizona summer with temperatures hovering above 117F from Phoenix to Las Vegas and boy oh boy this vehicle is a range monster. Started with 95% SOC driving between 70 to 80 mph reached destination with 11% SOC. Glad I traded in Model X for 2023 EQS SUV 450+. Model X needed to be supercharged twice to make the same trip one way. As the public fast charging gets more reliable German vehicles will become more competitive to Tesla.

Wow! I had no idea how good that EV would be. That is just outstanding! With the right charging network this thing will be a range beast. I wonder how it would do with towing? Is it capable of towing?

What kills me about all the “anti EV people” saying they wouldn’t buy an electric car because “you have to stop and charge it all the time”. You drove for six (6) hours.!! I WANT to stop, and get out and stretch my legs a little. This is so awesome knowing that you can put the miles ON, same as an internal combustion engine / ICE car.

Only one improvement when Mercedes comes out with the NACS plug, put it on the drivers side rear and presto, no cable issues with current supercharger version 2 & 3's, just back in, plug and charge!

When you next test an awd EQE/EQS, make sure you get a MY24 one because they get a disconnect unit for the front motor which will get the range for the awd ones much closer to the rwd ones

Interesting test. I would have appreciated knowing how many Kilowatt Hours you actually managed to put back in the battery from the charger to bring it back to it's "Supposed" 107.8 Kilowatt/Hour rating. I guess that might be difficult to determine for sure due to losses within the charging system which would be reflected in the total Kilowatt Hours supplied by the Charger. IS Mercedes actually using a BIGGER Battery than advertised, as has been suggested with the Lucid Air? However one looks at it though, less than 300 watt hours per mile is impressive for a vehicle of this size with a less than optimal aerodynamic drag co-efficient.

It usually sells for 20-23% discount off MSRP. So, it's a $82000 car give or take. If you are willing to buy 2 year used , it could be yours for $50-52K. At that price point, it becomes price competitive with a new Model Y. And don't forget that the battery warranty is 10 years 155K miles, as compared to 8 years 100K miles for Model Y.
