@@AntsVienna OMG Ants Vienna, hi. Sorry for the trouble but i just caught 4 queen ants and they all just laid their first batch of eggs. I am so exited for the Nanitics to come. What should their first meal be? Any suggestions?

I always do honeywater drops as first meal. The need to replenish their energy, so they need carbohydrates most

Either the vid was cut weird or you had workers before week 9. Check the shot at 6:00, there is one worker tending the brood. I also look hardend off.

Q:1 probably most queens will die eventually, something similar happened to antholleufer's colony but most likely more than one queen will survive

Ok, let's hope this does not happen😅 Would be sad if only 1 queen remains... My personal guess is that about 4-7 Queens will remain in the end. But time will tell :)

Can you introduct Lasius Flavus Queens once they've got their own workers? or do they have to start off together before their brood appear?
@AntsVienna Жыл бұрын
Hello there. Ideally you want them to strat off together and be related - e.g. two queens you found on the same day and same place. That scenario gives you the best chances. If you have 2 colonies that already both have workers there will be fights, so i suggest avoiding this option. Hope this helps you out!

actually both all and none are fertile or infertile at the start, you wouldn't know up until them laying eggs, then they can be deemed fertile, but not yet fertilized fertilized can only be known after they become actual workers the personal care part is rather interesting tho, the footage of the queens gnawing the wings of the others is also interesting I'm very sure more deads will happen in the future
@AntsVienna2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the clarification about Queens being fertile or not - I just wanted to keep things simple for beginners. Yes, I have the feeling that the specific Lasius Flavus I caught here are oligogyn (more than 1 Queen is allowed but not too many). So the Queens will probably be thinned out further😅

Interesting results, I thought the egg laying would begin after diapause and that they would certainly not have the time to evolve into workers, when did you catch your queens?

Nice, i also have flavus colony but only five queens, I also heard that there is much less worker agression when queens are from same nest durind nuptial flights because of simillar smell.
@AntsVienna2 жыл бұрын
Around 5 Queens is probably the sweet-spot, since as you said the workers don't get too confused. The thing is, I did gather all those Queen in the same garden, the same day. BUT that does not necessarily mean that the are sisters (aka same nest). Being from the same nest is of course the ideal scenario.
