Sonu Nigam can do this too, Rani Koh-I-Noor is a drag queen that slays it. She was also on an Indian singing show. The tradition i believe comes from old india, where men played women roles. Women didn’t act or do theater in the olden times.

he is from india. people of south india look very different from north india, similarly with east india and west india. Because of wide range of tempratures and surrounding areas in north, south, west and east. everyone looks pretty different. He is from north east india. its kinda weird to explain this becasue many people don't know this. but in short he is indian. there is a possibility that people from every state could look different to you. in addition to this, food, customs, traditional clothes, languages are also different for each state. it is truly a continent. so hard to explain

It is not that uncommon in India either. I have seen many singers singing in both male and female voices - often in the bands hired to perform in social functions. Not all of them do it this well but once in a while one comes across really good singers who can sing well in both male and female voices.
