@AkinolaEmmanuel
@AkinolaEmmanuel 5 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhayes1726 that can't be true. you can watch tape of when CP3 is running the offense and you see James Harden just standing still or slowly working himself into the play. TMac made that point. Harden plays iso-ball because that's what he wants to play. he's not looking for an off the ball movement type offense, he's not willing to put in that energy.

I agree they should probably keep MDA and just change the system. Need more ball movement alongside analytics
@danielcongleton2878
@danielcongleton2878 5 жыл бұрын
MDA has been coaching 1 way (pure offense) basketball his entire career. They literally had to sub contractor out defensive schemes to another coach. He is a pioneer of 7 second or less offense. If MDA could get Harden to play more of a Steve Nash role, you can bet he would. They literally have to bring in Chris Paul to mentor Harden into playing more "nash"y. Chris and Harden bickering is still a sign that Harden wants to play a Russell Westbrook high usage style offense, while Chris wants to play more of a efficient half court style that is more effective in team stats, but not on shoe deal numbers. In my opinion this is simply MDA strongarming Harden to play my style of basketball next year, or I'm going to retire. I think it's the right move, and I hope James embraces his talents of playmaking to make himself more of a leader like a nash, rather than just a numbers whore, which I connotate him as currently.
@younggggggg
@younggggggg 5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Congleton thank you. Finally someone that actually knows basketball and doesn’t just regurgitate what the media says. The Houston rockets offensive system isn’t a product of D’antoni, it’s a product of Morey and Harden. Shoot 3’s/lay ups & ISO. D’antoni’s system in Phoenix had off ball movement, screens, cuts and a great distributor in Nash. A very high paced/efficient offense. The complete opposite of what is being ran in Houston. That’s why whenever harden sits and Chris Paul runs the offense. Everyone else starts getting more involved and you see players like Eric Gordon & pj tucker getting hot. Mike d’antoni system isn’t the problem because it was never even being utilized lol. The problem is darly morey enabling James harden to be a ball hog
@danielcongleton2878
@danielcongleton2878 5 жыл бұрын
@@younggggggg everything you just said I agree with, and if you are willing I would like to go a bit further with it. I think this is a natural progression of the Meta of the salary cap, and how the modern defensive rules of no hand checks and allowing sketchy screens has created a problem where often the best way to win without having 8+ competant players (which essentially is impossible with salary cap, and only one mid level exception) currently is by getting a "demigod" player that is too big and too skilled to be guarded by guards, make him your guard, run zero motion, until 5 seconds left, high P&R with someone who sets a moving screen, and if they go under the screen, you have all day for the shot, and if they follow you over the screen, you get the lane. If effectively covered, force ref to bail you out. In my estimation, this simple type of basketball is what Harden has played his entire career, and has made him a Max Contract, a top 3 most recognizable player in the league ( after lebron and Stef). I don't see this dude changing his style unless Injury mandates, he has gotten too fat off the meat of this style. I see Morey knowing this, and trying to change Harden, but the sad reality is Harden right now seems to be of the mindset of a tiny Archibald, I will be a top scorer and top assists, horde the ball, and if we lose, we can strap the blame on over performing minimum contract guys and the ref, not the dude with one of the highest usage rates in the league, a points per possession siv on defense, a crappy leader of men, and currently, the manifestation of everything wrong with the NBA bundled into one person. I personally hate teams that their comboguard is their top scorer, for I still think the secret sauce of winning in the NBA is defensive versatility, high field goal percentage, and the ability to force switches that create "mouse in the house" mismatches that create high percentage post ups, or easy offensive rebounds. This isn't an easy fix, or the rockets would have fixed it already. But this why I think the Raptors have a legit chance of a ring this finals, that and KD out.
@younggggggg
@younggggggg 5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Congleton Daniel Congleton how do you feel about steph curry being the highest scoring player on his team even though he’s considered a combo guard then? (When Kd isn’t playing). And Morey will never try and change harden’s game. Morey believes analytically it’s the best way to win lol (courtesy of everything you said in your breakdown on how current nba teams love to run their offense). And Hardens play style is great for mvp’s and individual achievements but that play style will never translate to a championship. But I must say that I’m surprised that despite all of that, every game in this series was decided by 6 points or less. And they had a chance to win a championship if Chris Paul didn’t get injured last year.
@danielcongleton2878
@danielcongleton2878 5 жыл бұрын
@@younggggggg I think steph is a fascinating topic. I personally see him as two totally different players dependent of if he is on ball or off ball. I personally see him as a kyrie Irving when on ball, and a quicker Klay Thompson off ball. I personally like him off ball more, creates more defensive nightmares, and I think he is even more dangerous in this mode. It creates a situation where people can not send help on pick and roll coverage. Leading to the big man having to get out of position to hedge the shooter while defender gets over the screen. However, with KD out, he must take a more ball dominate role, and play the Kyrie/Harden role. What makes steph special is that he wears both hats really well. This is where I get confused, and will try to gain understanding through writing. I think NBA rewards the Hardens/Lillards gamestyle for the stats, even though in my opinion all that playstyle does is steal stats from their teammates. I see them openly saying their teammates lack playmaking and shooting, so I just want you to 3 and D. Though this creates instant offense, it also makes the game a 2v2 not a 5v5, which means your offense is totally dependent on your star player, and the defensive capability of the opposung big man and person guarding the star. The warriors are special because they are one of maybe 4 teams right now that can put 5 playmakers on the floor and punish the biggest mismatch at all times. Due to injuries, the warriors have 3 playmakers, have to spread it over 48 minutes, leading to times where only 2 playmakers are on the floor. This forces a change of style that is easier to guard, more taxing to play, and not as effective/efficient. I personally don't like how KD's salary reverted the warriors to a more basic offense, since such strong polarity between stars and bench. I think the Raptors are doing a great job punishing this, and why I think Raptors in 6. I think curry is the type of player that pushes the NBA offense to the next level because he shows combo guards how to be dominate off and on ball.

We have multiple clips of James Harden saying, "I hate hero ball, we can't win like this, I don't want to play like this..." Including a conversation with Steph Curry at the Team USA practices and at the All-Star practice... Yet, we keep blaming James and giving Good ol' Mikey D the pass. All that guy does is coach up offense, doesn't have a clue about defense, and isn't an X's and O's guy. He's isolation heavy and he plays "your turn, my turn" ball. His style isn't conducive to winning. Until the fire him as coach and get James in an offense where he can thrive off the ball... They won't win. Won't matter if GSW crumbles or not. They can't win exhausting their best weapon during the regular season and act like fatigue isn't a problem. James doesn't get a pass for floating around on plays he doesn't start with the ball, but that's also a coaching problem. The coach doesn't gameplan for the full team and he doesn't call plays that make you want to move to create shots. They need to get rid of CP3 and get guys that fit around Harden. Which is why paying an aging, undersized PG isn't a good move... Especially one who continuously chokes abs gets hurt. This team will be blown up from coaching staff to players in a season and a half. No way their owner will keep settling for short playoff runs.

Van Gundy ran tmac and yao ming into the ground. If they had a coach like pop or George karl the two would have longer and more successful careers.

still rather have TMac on my team than Harden. TMac unfortunately suffered a lot of injuries in his career to where as Harden did/does not. Harden plays no defense and is not a leader. TMac’s role was to do more than just score the ball. Tracy actually played defense and got rebounds. Harden is dribble, dribble, dribble then rush a shot or pass it to someone that has like 3 seconds to heave up a shot. Harden is a one man show and does not make his team better. My vote, trade him while you can because he’s not reliable.

It's a bit strange looking at Jeff Van Gundy in a Cal hat. I guess that he's trying to come off as a normal person. Given you graduated from YALE.

Pretty sure he grew up in the Bay Area where Cal Berkeley is.

Tf you are talking about Berkeley is one of the best universities as well. It is ranked higher than Yale in engineering and a lot other subjects

Oh yeah, I guess him bragging about his rich classmates at Yale isn’t a thing. You’re also drawing straws...I’m in Europe, at its top engineering schools...you know what no one gives a shit about, Cal.

I think they’re good. They just can’t be letting up. Ever.
