Heath Ledger played a more calm and calculated Joker that wanted to bring down Gotham into anarchy. Joaquin Phoenix played a mentally ill Joker that was hurt and turned down by society. While it's debatable who's a better Joker (I'm leaning towards Phoenix's Joker), I'd say that Joaquin Phoenix is a better actor.

People who lost because of the monopolization of businesses, who have no opportunity because they are not authorized to because of government interference, lose the competition by default and are called "loser" by society. The culture has relegated the value of males to physical beauty and wealth. On top of this, women compete with and defeat men for jobs but still expect them to be the breadwinner. If a person was already defective such as in his case, having the laughing disease, they are even worse off. Handle problems with intelligence eh? Do people get to chose their intelligence? Let's just put everyone to death who is below a certain IQ shall we? You don't understand how you have been manipulated for the building of monopoly and empire, and how you are now being manipulated as a Malthusian preventative check on population growth. Since you are "an adult" and "can handle problems with intelligence", then maybe you should learn about why all of these problems converge, and how they being justified in order to reduce world population, intentionally. You are maybe right but it is still mystery when Batman was born is it around 20-30 years there are many theories. We do not know either how old was Bruce when his parents died it is around 8-12 years old. If we work with that... I dont think so Joker looks so much older he looks like 5-10 years older. He maybe looks older because of depressions, anxiety, stress its normal some people looks older because of that.

1617 Slays In DC universe Joker didnt kill Bruce’s parents. I think Joker found out how Bruce’s parents died and how he looked when it happened. And in first encounter Joker had good “relationship”with Bruce, he wanted to make him laugh. Joker is not laughing because he is happy but because he is sad and want to cry. Yes he is happy because Wayne family is dead he hate them but not a Bruce. Or maybe he is happy because he is now orphan like him.

No I believe the joke is based in joker's origins of being multiple choice and how the director is saying that we would sympathize with joker and this could just be a fake out and having to explain the punchline is why someone wouldn't understand it. The common thing in general someone has to explain the joke you didn't understand what was being conveyed and said. Also that's the joke we constantly question the validity of joker's story devoting far too much time on it lowering are guard trying to figure out if is it's fact or fiction.

Thalidomide He was really close at that point, you can especially see it in how confident he is with the dancing, walking away from the subway after the cops are beat, coming out on Murraayyy. But I still don't think he was full on Joker till after the crash. We get a glimpse of Joker when he's waiting behind the curtain to come out on Murray and is staring at the tv when Murray's making fun of his clip again. And obviously the breakin point is before he kills Murray with the voice crack and how he's trembling telling Murray he's awful. But even when he's getting taken away in the cop car, I think he still had some Arthur left in him cause of how he finally felt recognition from everyone rioting from what he did. I reallllly hope they do a sequel, I wanna see more of Joaquin as full on Joker.

First Murray was the figure of authority, just like Thomas Wayne, deciding how the soul of Gotham would look like, what is good and evil. People like Arthur were jokers to them, but when Fleck turned the tables and took over the mind of the city, he became the new god, deciding what is right or wrong, funny or not. To him people like Bruce Wayne and Batman are jokers and the history repeats itself. I think that the movie is partly about that, the struggle between light and darkness, chaos and order, two things impossible to define and hence neither Murray nor Arthur Fleck or Bruce Wayne can ever know if they are right or wrong. It is a riddle without an answer. Pit without a bottom, that is why Joker laughs at the end. That is why he is so much different than his 'brother' Bruce. He embraces that there is no answer and ridicules those that cling to believes. I believe Bruce is (and will be) different not only from Joker but from Thomas or Murray as well. He does not fight for what he thinks is just. He is always fighting to become a symbol, lighthouse, a messiah for all those living in a senseless world, to keep them from falling into the same abyss that created Joker and then killed his parents. Because we will never know right from wrong, but we can save other's from falling into the cracks of those definitions, which turns them into monsters. I wonder if the film was about that.

It's not that he decides for the city what is right or wrong. HE DECIDES FOR HIMSELF, REFUSED TO BE DICTATED BY THE UPPER CLASS IN GOTHAM. Ppl who share the same idea with him hence support him, cuz just like him they're fed up at being told to "sit down and take it like good little boy". When you wanna start a riot and burn down the city which options could be better than follow the Joker?

That’s a fantastic take on the film, however Arthur by the end of the movie has no interest in dictating right or wrong, he no longer cares for adhering to a broken system that is governed by a false sense of safety that hollows out human authenticity. This is conveyed in the movie where Arthur is ridiculed in the beginning of the film for dancing as a clown, a persona through which he finds some semblance of joy in by which he can express himself freely without going through the hassle of communication.Through out his entire life, Arthur was rejected, neglected and abused because of a condition he had zero control over. This is even outright stated when he is at the Murray Franklin Show where expresses his grievances with the world by stating “Do you what it’s like to be somebody like me? To be somebody but themselves? You don’t”. He doesn’t care about law and order. He never had an agenda. He develops a deeply nihilistic view on the world, through which he finds freedom and genuine joy. In the end of the movie we see Arthur no longer attempting to stop his violent episode of laughter at the comfort of his therapist and simply embraces his condition and no longer considers it to be an illness. This is to imply that Arthur truly has no interest in complying with a broken system that failed to protect him and his mother. The true tragedy of this story is that Arthur destroys his own humanity to feel genuine joy and peace and ultimately becomes a symbol of chaos and anarchy.

he probably heard or read that thomas wayne and his wife were shot dead by someone wearing a clown mask during a riot, thomas is famous and was running for mayor, his death would be in the news for sure, and the fact that only bruce survived would probably be too, so joker just put 2 and 2 together and realized not only the man he hated so much died because of him, he also ruined bruce's life

i think this is set 20 years later, when Batman put joker in Arkham, and here he's finally realised who Batman really is. Kinda like the end of ''Once Upon A Time In The West''.
