I was on this flight. It was - 42 F a couple of days before the incident. The airport has outside boarding and it was a bit chilly.

All these ATC's asking these questions that don't need to be answered until you get close to the airport are pissing me off....let the pilots aviate, navigate and then communicate(which is last)

Souls on board and fuel in time is critical information. It gives atc information on how quickly the aircraft needs to land and the fire department information on fuel quantities if there is a spill. Asking what the nature of the emergency is also is critical to determine if they can turn the vector back to the airport if they need to divert. I'm curious as to what you think isn't important need to know asap information?

I'm imagining that when they got to the gate, pilot jumped down, met a maintenance guy, and they got a step ladder and some WD-40 and sprayed the thrust reverser. I love Allegiant and their A320s- fly them often. Great plane and airline!

Why do some controllers ask for fuel in pounds whilst others ask for fuel in time? 🤔

ATC needs to know how long they can stay in the air - time. Fire rescue on the ground needs to know how much fuel they have to deal with in a potential fire.
@jsurfin18 ай бұрын
When ATC asks for fuel remaining, it's always in time not quantity. They wouldn't know how much time is available if you give the quantity because they handle all types of airplanes and not all airplanes burn fuel the same amount.

Who do US pilots always "declare an emergency", while the rest of the world use pan-pan or mayday?
@reynirheidbergstefansson23439 ай бұрын
1. 1radition (they have always done so). 2. American pilots talking with American ATC in American airspace would much rather speak American than Aviation English. 3. Their message structure has only two levels: Routine and Emergency. There is no Urgency (PAN-PAN is folded into Emergency).
@yvesd_fr18109 ай бұрын
indeed this is strange, and not the international procedure...
@reynirheidbergstefansson23439 ай бұрын
@@yvesd_fr1810 - Indeed, but then the international proocedure exists to cross language barriers. These are barely existent in North America.
@JoelWelter8 ай бұрын
I think that if the pilot was breaking into a channel with a lot of radio chatter to declare an emergency, they would use "Mayday, mayday, mayday" and it would stop all other communication. In this case, the controller was already talking to the pilots, so they had his attention, so using "mayday" wasn't really needed.

Hopefully not !

Yes only when they are flying backwards for takeoff
@slartybarfastb36489 ай бұрын
The mechanism for deploying (and stowing) the reverser failed allowing it to partially deploy. It was likely free floating, pulled open by the slipstream, but prevented from fully deploying by the exhaust.

Here is the trick of the day: on the 320, the fuel in pounds equals the time of fuel remaining, 176 minutes of fuel in this scenario.
@ThatMattWhite9 ай бұрын
Isn't the whole point of the time in minutes for ATC to know how long they have to work? Anything more than XXXXX pounds and they should just assume "that's enough for now, don't need to bother the pilots".
