Hey Kav! Absolutely great information! I was given a whole tank (50 gal) set up over a year ago & kept it storage. I always had fish when I was kid (70’s), none of the great products they have today! Lol My cousin built my filters & we did old school tank cycling. I don’t know how I kept them alive! 😬😂 Doing research I fell down a rabbit hole & came across your channel. You are thorough and straight up. I was interested in cichlids and after watching a lot of your vids - freshwater tank and cichlids it is. I’m starting out with 4 African and a rescued plecos. So far so good just dealt with an ammonia spike & grateful for your vid on that! Please keep up the Great work!

If you don’t mind me asking here- Have you heard of it & what’s your thoughts on submersible filters? My albino African cichlids died the other day for no reason and my water is good and all the other fish are fine
@danrude54183 жыл бұрын
I am settling up my 125g again. I have lost about 8 fish to just dieing. They are just fine until I find them dead. I check the tank within the day of finding them and all is good. The youngest one was only 2 weeks old from the store. The others were 3-6 weeks from the store. The all from PerSmart, I usually buy the assorted juveniles when starting up my tanks. So I expect some attrion, but even now I think it is high. So keep watching them and checking the water and your filter. Also check your food. I am adding Alge wafers to mine now.. I just got a new batch last 🌙. And will be cleaning the Fx4 and my HOT Magnum today. Good luck.

API stress coat is primarily a de-chlorinator but also helps with the fishes slime coat which is good for stress. Stress guard is not a de-chlorinated, its only for stress but its much more stronger and concentrated than api stress coat.

I am getting ready to start my new 125 peacock chiclid tank. now this tank was already established as it is a rehomed tank. I have a forza 13 with uv filter (established and came with) and an fx6 as well (will need cycled) taking some water from my wifes 125 that we are taking down and moving to get my 125 going. so it is a semi established tank. I see that you want to add as many as possible at first to try and curb aggression and also don't keep repeating the pecking order. On the other side you put to many fish in you spike the ammonia and crash the system. I know there are so many varying factors which is why I gave you so much information. what is your suggestions as far as the first group of fish. and then adding others safely in the future?

No, Stability daily only until your tank has finished cycling. After that you only need to add prime or safe during water changes. That's a high ammonia out of your tap, but the prime or safe will detoxify it long enough for your bacteria to convert it.

How is the RHINO PLECO doing in the grow out tank? 🐈🐟
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Doing great! Growing and his color is change to a more dark green. He completely eliminated all the algae by himself! He must be full lol

So, it's not necessary to acclimate the new fish to the new tank?
@jaki19793 жыл бұрын
Whitelips are extremely slow at growing, I had some but eventually lost patience and sold them all
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
I'm learning that now myself! Super slow...

Hi Kev, what size was the clown loaches when you got them vs when you transferred them to the big tank?
@KaveManAquatics2 жыл бұрын
I got them very small, but dont remember how long I waited until the transfer....I just remembered being a bit scared they were still too small lol
@jeromepedro54862 жыл бұрын
@@KaveManAquatics i see. I asked because I got clown loaches too but they are about 2.5-3” and not sure if they will be fine with my peas and haps tank. My biggest right now is the venustus and insignus hap which is 7 inches length.

@@KaveManAquatics so I just added my 5 clown loaches 2 days ago but they never swim around and just hide at the back of my HOB and output filter. I’m afraid that they won’t eat and starve.😔 what to do?
