@Eat With GRUBBY Keto ASMR Put a pre filter or turn down the filter if it's adjustable. But a pre filter should work. Go to Amazon and type in "acquarium pre filter". You will put that over the intake tube where your fish keeps getting stuck
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
They may be dying from other causes and just ending up at the filter. A filters intake is not usually strong enough to suck fish to it and kill them.

Just some small tips of the video when I add my fish to get acclimated I remove the first bag only because the first bag has writing with marker ink that might be toxic some places like in this video came with fiberglass and those fibers are dangerous for us humans when inhaled imagine floating inside the tank so remove main bag rinse with bag in water if you have obsessive behavior then rinse them in tank water and what else do we get out of this video adding one fish to a established tank can be possible only in emergency situations 😀 well great video hope the guys make a speedy recovery peace ✌

Potassium Permanganate is a strong dip. Because the fish were in shipping for so long and you did not acclimate them to your tank parameters, doing that sort of dip straight after taking them out of the bag then putting them into your tank is likely what stressed them and could have potentially killed them. This sort of dip would have been fine if you acclimated them to your quarantine tank (assuming its the same parameters as your main display) for accouple hours, then attempted the dip. This would allow the fish to recover from stress of shipping, get used to the new tank water and be able to fight the stress of the dip. No professional here, but just my thoughts and experience from using PP!! Nevertheless, love your fish!
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
My tank water and shippers tank water are equivalent. So the only thing they needed to be acclimated to was the temperature, which I did. I do agree with you though that the dip added more stress. I think it was a combination of their stress from shipping plus too long in the dip and too long in the rinse (which wasnt oxygenated). I tried to emphasize in the editing with text that 10 seconds of dip was more than enough. Luckily I saved them and learned something myself. learning everyday in this great hobby!

As you know I LOVE watching your videos So the question what do you think caused those 2 fish to act like they did ? Was it they were allready stressed before the dip and the dop just made it worse ? I respect your honesty Keep it up my man !
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
My thinking is that I either left them in the dip too long, or they stayed in the bag too long. If you noticed, I mentioned the albinos bag had a lot of poop in it. That’s not good, that would mean there may have been elevated levels of ammonia in his bag, causing more stress as well. But I’m leaning towards too long in the dip…10 seconds flat would have been better but I did 15.

Kev - lots of respect for your knowledge, but didn’t think it made sense to pour new bag water into the bucket after a fish had the PP bath. Perhaps a second clean bucket w tank water? Just a thought.
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
I thought about that, and that would have been better, but since the rinse bucket had 5 gallons of clean tank water, plus prime, adding the bag water in there really didnt change any of the parameters. But I do think I left them in the rinse bucket for far too long...while setting up the camera for the transition intoto the tank. Sometimes its hard doing the actual task at hand while also worrying about capturing it all on video....lesson learned!

Kevin I dont't have fish but I have turtles and use your videos as a guide. Keep up the good work. You explain everything so even a first time aquarium pet owner could understand. I have one question about cleaning your filter. All the videos show how to clean the filter but never mention if you should clean the hoses. Do you clean the hoses also?
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dorothy for that positive feedback. Glad I’ve been able to help! Normally you shouldn’t need to clean your hoses. And if you do it isn’t often. If your hoses are spitting out gunk every time you restart it, yes you should remove them and flush them out. But more importantly is the reason that’s happening. It’s most likely due to a bunch of uneaten food getting sucked into your filter intakes. Either reduce your feedings or reduce the filter flow during feedings…or both 😁

I know it may be hard to understand that from your perspective.
@cichlidtube17773 жыл бұрын
Ya that's what I was thinking. Then moving them from the bag to the dip to the bucket and then to the tank after being in the bag atleast overnight. Then doing the water change on top of that that's alot of changes so fast for a stressed out fish. I wouldn't do none of that myself. But everyone is different and has their own ways of doing things. Hey kev whats up brother. I have ordered fish from beantown also. Three fish a lawanda peacock a malawi trout and a red cap letrenops all were healthy and nice looking but i did have one problem they were all undersized from what i ordered and paid for so i contacted them and lets just say they weren't real great about it. Even though i sent pictures with a ruler they didn't agree which pissed me off. I didn't really want them to do anything about it and i told them that but they still argued with me well i haven't ordered anything else from them. Now i would say they have a very large selection of fish to choose from and those three fish are doing great and they have put some size on which is what i wanted. Really its not that big of a deal i just wish they would have treated me better after all I' am the customer. When i buy fish and I've bought from all the well known names I've had issues from time to time but it was handled much better. Maybe some day i will give them another chance. In regards to the fish you bought the dip you gave them definitely messed with them. I think it's safer to quarantine them and wait to see if there is a problem if you dip them when they have been just shipped there at a risky time due to stress and lack of food because as you probally know they are usually shipped not fed. Sometimes as fish keepers less is more so my methods have worked for a very long time so i don't chance it. Once i treat the show tank with medicated food for one week and no new fish are added i don't do anything unless there is a problem. Take it for what it's worth just one man's opinion. As always i support you and love your podcast. Peace brother

My guess is that the Potassium Permanganate affected your fish, and every time you took the next fish out of its bag you washed a little bit of Potassium Permanganate solution off the net in to your fresh rinse water. You did the Marginatus last which explains why that one is ok as it was exposed for the least amount of time. The other 2 were exposed for far longer. Perhaps only a small concentration but enough to cause issues. I would skip the Potassium Permanganate dip.
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
I also believe it was a combination of time in the bag water, too much time in the dip and too much time in the rinse water (which wasnt oxygenated) Like you said marginatus was doing the best because he spent less time in the rinse water. Thats why after filming, during editing I tried to stress that 10 seconds in the dip was more than enough....learning everyday in this beautiful hobby!
@kernalbert49392 жыл бұрын
@@KaveManAquatics Yup. It's .5 grams per gallon. In my experience .6 is way less forgiving. Strict 10 to 12 secs (a timer is a must if your fish are valued over 50 bucks) and you rinse each fish right after the dip. My procedure is to get them out of the bag into buckets of tank water. Dip them after 30 minutes in the bucket. Rinse them individually and plop them in. The water change is great. In addition, I section the tank with egg crate and put the new guys away from the established fish. Then remove crate right before filling up.

No names yet. I lost the ruby red, I think he was blind and he would have had to get euthanized anyway. The red shoulder and marginatus are both in the main tank doing great! I'll posting a video on IG and facebook soon 😊

Yo Kev do you know if there is anything out there that can cure HITH?
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Even though it isnt proven yet, number 1 is to remove any activated carbon from your tank. Some say it can cause Hith. Next is to obviously have very clean water with low nitrates and high levels of minerals. ALso make sure you have plenty of bio-media to support your Oscar. Theres so many causes of HITH theres no 1 treatment for it. You could also try treating with general cure to attack both internal parasites and any secondary bacterial infections

I'm not sure it makes sense to rinse them in the bucket the bag-water is drained into - surely that'll carry whatever infection or parasites you're worried about? Seems to me it'd be more reliable to go from the dip to a 3rd bucket of clean tank water and not risk the cross-contamination.
@KaveManAquaticsАй бұрын
Yes I agree that would be an improvement to the method I chose. Although I was more worried about physical parasites on the body rather than what would potentially be in the water column.

Would Potassium Permanganate work on other fish diseases like HITH, fin rot, etc?
@KaveManAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Fin rot and ich, yes. Really anything externally. It will also help with secondary infection from HITH but that starts with an internal parasite.

Hi Kev. I am based in London and cant seem to buy Seachem stress guard from anywhere . The ones I can get is like from ebay which cost over £100.00 with shipping. Would u recommend any other product that does the same job. All my other products are from seachem like stability and prime. Thanks brother

Great video I am not a fan of the PP I have never used it because of my perception of no need to put fish through medication just because. Would rather do 2 weeks.

Hey people, "light'n up! Kevin hasn't gotten this far just spitting gibberish. He obviously has pertinent and advanced knowledge.
