Absolutely stunning. It's so hard to believe this was a way of life for my grandparents. My grandmother never learn to drive, grandfather did, when cars became public. But she could hitch a wagon. And my grandfather was a WW1 Marine Corp vet pictured in a mounted calvery. He labored as a saw mill worker but they still used mules.

It’s such a beautiful sight, seeing a well groomed, relaxed, well mannered 8 horse hitch. I’ve loved watching these since I was four years old and saw the Budweiser Clydesdales live. That also fueled my desire to learn to drive a horse. I’ve only ever driven my single pony in a two wheel sulky cart, but I’d love to drive a team and a four in hand at least once before I die. I’d never be so presumptuous as to assume I could come close to handling eight at once. Massive respect for the folks that can and do. I can’t imagine the time it takes to learn to do it properly and without confusing the horses.

😍 Look at those magnificent horses! & the tack so shiny! 40 horses? Unimaginable💕
I'm wondering how his grandfather managed 20 reins in each hand must have had some different type of set up absolutely astounding that one could train so many pairs to work together

At the Sacramento State Fair about 10 yrs ago I watched the black Percherons exiting their trailer like right there. They would come out and then turn hard right. I was so happy!
@@pickle581 Thank you so much. I was wrong about the Borax team. It was a 20 hitch with mules and two horses. If you are interested Frankie Lane sings “mule train”. Again thank you. I go to look up Dick Sparrow.

@philjackson1722 Жыл бұрын
I believe it was 20. They were used in the borax mines in that era.

@@philjackson1722 there was a 40 horse hitch driven by Dick Sparrow in the 1970’S. INFO: Wayne Williams channel “ young living oils Percherons at Indy”. The info is verbal only. The 40 mule hitch I believe was the Borax mule train.

@@philjackson1722 You were right the Borax mule train was a 20 mule hitch with two horses. Frankie Lane sings about it, “mule train”. Dick Sparrow dove a 40 horse hitch in the 1970s. I just realized I may have sent you this before.
