This is my son. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a year ago and is an excellent example of not letting this disease slow him down or keep him from attempting anything he wants to. Since his diagnosis, he’s continued to ski the hardest runs in Washington, Utah, Idaho, and now, Wyoming. He walked away from this completely fine and had successfully completed Corbet’s the day before, even while carrying his backpack containing his emergency diabetic supplies. Our family is beyond proud of him.

Very crunchy snow at the start. Lucky to have soft snow further down to slow his slide. Nice try! I am not sure I would try it in those conditions.

This is such a blessing to hear!! So often we have "frequent flyers" in the ED who are type ones. Pure mismanagement of their condition. It is so refreshing to this and I wish him the absolute best.

My 11 year old brother. He nailed it the day before in powder conditions. Super proud of him! Awesome footage, thank you!

Hey Sidney, you should be proud of him. It isn't easy getting in under those conditions. And he went for it! Thank your parents for letting us post it. I think it will be beneficial for other kids who want to attempt it. But if they ever want us to take it down from KZbin, let us know.

No way I would try that. I would crash and slide down the same way, except I’m a lot older than this kid, so the ambulance or hearse would have to come haul me away.

He should have planted his right pole hard and leaned into it pointing both knees ( headlights) down his fall line and if you fall dig in with both of your ski pole tips not sprawl out .nylon is too slippery and most of the time you would have hit a tree or rock in a 100thof that space.

Did you even ski it yourself? It’s kinda lame you just went up there to watch others drop in and didn’t have your own balls to do it!!

SLJ, I understand where you are coming from on this. My son Jack and I will go in when we believe it reasonably safe to do so and worth it. There is some footage of his first time in. All the vids of others going in have given us permission to publish them.

If this guy would get rid of the 100 pound pack on his back he could ski. What do these people put in there while skiing in bounds.
@travisbacon1974
@travisbacon1974 2 жыл бұрын
David, I don't disagree that skiing with a pack is more difficult. But there are some reasons why you see more and more kids wearing them: They will probably wear a pack as adults so wearing one as a kid gets them used to it. It allows them carry their own gear, water, ect. which helps with their independence. If they hike, we have found it easier for them to put the skis on the bag than their shoulders.

David, let me expand your perspective on why people carry backpacks inbounds. In this specific video, this is my son. He is a Type 1 Diabetic and carries essential rescue supplies in case of low blood sugar. I also carry a backpack so I have the supplies readily available in case he is unable to administer lifesaving glucose himself. As you can see, sometimes we can be briefly separated. It is imperative that he have his own supplies available to be able to save his life if necessary. And the backpack weighs maybe 5-6 pounds. And he successfully skied Corbet’s the day before when conditions were a little different.

I’ll tell ya why I wear a backpack inbounds…1) it’s a place to stick a vest or jacket if I get hot and don’t feel like going back to the car or lodge [ I’d rather spend my time skiing]. 2) I can have some food and water with me-again,so I don’t have to waste time (and money!) going into the lodge 3) but mostly, it’s because on a normal day, I might take a few runs inbounds and then hit the side country and I’ll need the additional gear that going out of bounds requires [and, yet again, why waste time going back to the car?!]. After skiing like this for years, I can confidently state that the pack in no way affects my skiing…it’s not very heavy and after a while it’s not even noticeable.
