www.deliciousvinyl.com Yes, Young MC did have another hit song after the year long chart run of Bust A Move, though nowhere impact of his first hit Principals Office did do some damage on the charts and was seen everywhere.

He's the only rapper that will never escape my memory. The first thing I knew about Young MC was that he had a college degree around the same time Bust a Move came out. Not only did he get a Bachelors in Economics at USC; he was very successful as a music artist all these years. Bust a Move is a classic.

'Principal's Office' by Young MC. This takes you back to a time when the rap music genre didn't feel the need to use explicit lyrics to be popular.
@jeemysmith78689 жыл бұрын
***** wow your dumb. Do you normally contradict yourself when you talk too ? Cause during this time all there was , was explicit lyrics. Young Mc is Hip Hop not Rap.
@MrStatYT9 жыл бұрын
Well Jeemy, "you're" not sounding too smart either. I can name a ton of songs from that general era that didn't use the f word or n word to sell records (Bust a Move, Whose Cadillac is That, It's Tricky, Mary Mary, Whomp There It Is, 2 Legit 2 Quit, Can't Touch This, Rapture, Informer, Ice Ice Baby, Everybody Dance Now, Baby Got Back, etc. etc. etc.). Also, differentiating between rap and hip hop is like differentiating between an SUV and a crossover vehicle.
@jeemysmith78689 жыл бұрын
Well aren't you special ! Do everyone a favor and STFU! I even have a brand new acronym for you. It's F.O.C.U.S. It means Fuck Off Cause Your Stupid. It's quite obvious you haven't a clue what contradict means. But oh well I guess going to school is optional where you live. Just goes to show you can fix ugly but you can't fix stupid.
@MrStatYT9 жыл бұрын
Anyone who uses expletives to make a point in his incoherent ramblings is not a person worth arguing with. I'm glad you know what an acronym is, even if you don't know what "you're" is. Keep striving for that GED and have a nice day.

I have fond memories of playing tracks from this record back in 1990 when I was a DJ on the radio station at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. When this song got to the drum solo, I would always turn on the mic and say "This is WRDP, Radio DePaul, doin' 'The Principal's Office.'" I made "Bust A Move" my featured song, and used to turn on the mic and rap along with it. I also loved to play "My Name Is Young."

from wikipedia -- ---- Young MC - Principal's Office --- "Life and career Young was born in London, to Jamaican immigrant parents. He left the United Kingdom at the age of three and later moved to Queens, New York, when he was eight years old.[1] Young attended Hunter College High School in the Upper East Side of Manhattan (he was honored at the school’s 2018 convocation).[2] He went on to earn a degree in Economics from the University of Southern California (USC).[3] At USC, he met Michael Ross and Matt Dike from the record company Delicious Vinyl.[3] Young rapped over the phone for Ross and Dike, who ended up delivering a record contract to his USC dorm room. In 1989, Young collaborated with Tone Lōc on the songs "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina".[3] Young gained fame with the release of his single "Bust a Move", which reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance.[1] The single helped Young's debut album, Stone Cold Rhymin', to reach No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and attain platinum status in the United States. The follow-up single, "Principal's Office", was nominated for 'Best Rap Video' at the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards."

This video makes me think of my days of being in high school. I was never late to class, didn't cut class to go out and play basketball, and I never passed notes in class, but I heard of plenty of other kids getting called out of class for things like that. I went to Lane Tech HS in Chicago, IL. The teachers would tell bad kids to go to Room 144, which we knew was the Discipline Office.

the reason people say it "lost" popularity, was cause of a thing called "musical evolution". its just cause every decade in the 1900's had a new type or form of music. it was something new and everyone forgot about the last decades style of music. but now, since we are in the 2000's there really hasnt been a new good style of music, and more and more people are realizing how good the old school hip - hop was. this new shit suxz!! and thats that. long live the old school hip hop!
