Sir Nick, I knew you would like these songs and it never gets old watching you experience them for the first time. I don't understand why the Rascals are/were not more popular. I gave you 3 of their more rocking tunes, but most of their songs are more like How Can I Be Sure. Lighthearted, carefree music. Back when the British Invasion music was dominating, the Rascals and Creedence Clearwater Revival were representing America on the charts. Truly an overlooked, underrated gem of a rock band. Thanks Nick as always, Jeff.

It's unfortunate that the Young Rascals' "A Girl Like You" was not on this list. Very jazzy ballad from 1967. It was the band's hit right before "How Can I Be Sure".

The Rascals was my mainstay, as well as the Beatles, when I listened to this on my transistor radio in 1966 when I was 10. "How can I be sure" takes me back instantly.

Dino Dineli was the type of drummer that has to be SEEN to fully appreciate. Check them live. Also Felix was a whirling dervish on the B3. They didnt use a bass player live (though they did in the studio) instead Felix would use the bass pedals on the organ to play bass as well as sing and play the usual organ. They were know for being great live. NYC was pretty competitive back then where they started out so many bands had a lot of FLASH of their own to stand out. Eddy Brigati's vocal on How Can I be Sure was one of the reasons I became a singer.

The Rascals are fabulous. Damn Great American Band in the midst of the "British Invasion" in the 60's. Fabulous band!

This band has a playlist on my iPhone… “How Can I Be Sure” I had on 45 and wore it out (7th grade at the time)! More great tunes from The Rascals are: "A Beautiful Morning”, "In the Midnight Hour”, "People Got To Be Free”, "Been Lonely Too Long” and "A Girl Like You “. You have to know they were huge before FM came along, so records were 3 min or less to make it onto the AM airwaves. I get a real kick thinking about how younger generations like yours are finding something to really like in our “senior” music, LOL

Glad you dug the Rascals so much. How can I be Sure was different because it was sung by the great Eddie Brigatti. The great singer Felix Cavaliere usually takes lead, more soulful. Good Lovin and Groovin may be their biggest hits. People gotta be Free & I'm Lonely too Long are, very good also. Thankfully they got inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame surely deserve it. Definitely one of my favorite groups ever.

The Rascals are great. Their entire 1967 album "Groovin" is top notch, it should be given mind share if you ever do a album reaction.

I remember listening to all these "The Rascals" songs when I was growing up especially the song "Groovin'" while walking along the beach when I was a itty bitty kid living in Hawaii and you could hear the song on peoples transistors radios. I love all these songs on this marathon. What trip down memory lane..WOW! Thank You for playing all these great songs.

How Can I Be Sure and Good Lovin are two of the very best from their catalog or from anyone in the 60's. The Rascal's have more that are also HOF worthy classics. A groovin, blues, rock band from New Jersey who influenced many bands including The E Street Band...

Thanks for spotlighting The Rascals. I think they are one of the best American bands of all time. I was lucky enough to their re-union tour (all 4 original members) around 10 years ago, and they sounded great! They have so many more great songs, and you should check them out some time. I'm glad you enjoyed their music.

The only one of these that was a hit song was "How can I Be Sure," and it sounded nothing like the Rascals had ever done before. It wasn't sung by "Felix Cavalari" as the other hits were. This was a heartfelt love song that was so personal, and emotional. The Rascals other songs were so soulful and were great to dance to. They were an iconic 60s "Band.

Thank you, Nick, for your deep understanding that music is the language of the heart and spirit. Your diversity in styles and genres shows how heartfelt you feel about the magic that is the music. Your hard work is like Sisyphus pushing the Rock & Roll up the hill and starting all over again. You and your Bright Angel Lex are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff. ➡️ Fun connection to Steely Dan, Nick: Felix Cavaliere of the Rascals played with Donald in The New York Rock and Soul Revue (1991). They played each other’s hits together. 😽💖

Another easy listening and soulful tune by them, maybe their biggest hit, is 'Groovin'. A song along the lines of 'Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon', by the Kinks.

Saw them in the summer of 1968 at the now long gone JFK stadium in Philadelphia. It was a $1.00 concert along with The Boxtops, Country Joe and The Fish, the Delphonics. They headlined and tore the place apart. I still see Dino's sticks flashing in the air above him. They were amazing live!!! You'd Better Run (later covered much later by Pat Benatar) is one you should listen to!!!

"Good Loving" was a song destined to be a future drug commercial. Compare Allman Brothers' "Revival". Practically the same song. An on your feet song. Great retrospective, Jeff, and commentary, Nick.
