Young Vancouver boy discovers love for bagpipes

Four-year-old Frankie Whelan's passion for the bagpipes first started when he saw Frank Wimberley, also known as the Pink Pied Piper, playing the instrument in North Vancouver's Lonsdale neighbourhood.

I started playing when I was 9, took a couple of decades off and have been playing again for the past 15 years. Once, on St. Patricks Day, I was playing a solo in a beer tent when I noticed that a small kilted child was "playing" a toy bagpipe in front of me. We immediately made him an honorary band member.

A piper is someone who is proficient on the instrument. Calling this guy a piper is an insult to all the pipers out there who actually took the trouble to learn their craft.
