The interviewer is stupid for even thinking that her talent would not have been discovered had she not been born into a musical family. Not necessarily. Recent advances in genetics have discovered that all addicts were born with that illness. All it takes is ONE hit to get the addict going. Its like high blood pressure and diabetes, which are inherited. Once the illness is "activated," it never goes away. For addiction, only abstinence works. In my field, I've seen addicts lose decades of sobriety. It's heart wrenching.

@@MiguelRodriguez-zd6tq Indeed. People act as though she never had a choice to begin taking them, as though she couldn't think for herself, and it just is not true. Unfortunately, drug addiction changes the brain's receptors so that the body experiences unbearable pain and gives the darkest, deepest, terrible thoughts when the body goes into withdrawal, making it one of the hardest things in the world to stop.

Apparently, there are people who try to make this into something ugly when it is not. A good interviewer asks probing questions and makes statements to initiate conversation, it is part of the job. Interviewers often "play the devil's advocate," so to speak, to probe at the sincerity of the interviewees to encourage forthcoming answers that we might not have otherwise learned. Remember, Whitney was still a rising star at this point, this being the year that she released her second album. Her first album floundered at first, and was just now gaining in popularity, just now starting to be really noticed by the public at large. Jane was attempting to get details how Whitney planned on achieving those aspirational goals. Jane succeeded, Whitney explained her priorities and how she expected things to work in the future. Jane was fully respectful and professional with every question she asked. There is nothing here to indicate that Jane Pauley was in any way jealous of Whitney or trying to belittle or embarrass her.
