For all of you saying she isn't that severe and is exaggerating etc just remember that you have no idea what she is going through and what's going on in her head. You can literally hear in her voice that she is nervous and on the verge of tears. Remember that everybody's disability is different and you aren't better than her or have it harder than her just from what you see in a 3 minute clip. It's so damaging to have that said to you, that what you are feeling isn't real or a big deal. Disgraceful.

Social anxiety is extremely complex. You can have a very very severe case which disappears in some situations and is very prominent in others. For example, you can be confident during structured social interaction (Going to the GP or the Bank) but you can find it impossible to interact with people in a more free environment, eg restaurants or grabbing a drink. I have a friend like this and she hasn't been to a dinner in years but is cool to do preplanned stuff.

I feel like this is belittling what real social anxiety feels like. When it's "severe" you wouldn't be able to go on a TV show like this and it isn't that easy to just rewire your mindset. You don't just go to the store and get a bit of help and boom your completely fine. I wouldn't even be able to speak to the therapist the way she is.

The only way to conquer fear is to face it. A therapist I went to did almost the exact thing that man did. It's called exposure therapy. You keep doing what you fear until you bring your anxiety levels down. It's probably going to take her a lot longer than that one session I'm sure.

I was the most i mean the MOST social guy in my hood, in school. I dont know what happend to me i really dont and it sucks, Nowadays i can't speak properly i just get nervous speaking and communication even with my closest friends and it cost me my friendship. I feel guilt not telling about it because i lost so much i never spoken about it to anyone. It started to happen when i was 19 i started to get confused something was wrong with me, I couldn't talk to anyone i was getting so much just overwhelming i was, so nervous for nothing i didn't understand a damn thing. Something was really wrong and i couldn't understand what. Bad things started to happen in my life and i couldn't take it anymore so i jumped in a Depression thats why caused my first anxiety. After getting out of depression, i wasn't myself anymore i couldn't speak communicate, like i said i couldn't figure out why . But as time goes i search for long time and i finally understood i had SAD. There were times i was about to end my life, times i didn't really wanna live. But as time goes I'm today pretty ok sometimes i feel good. But i keep challenge myself i go out and do whatever hang out with the friends i have i guess. Sometimes i feel so lonely and sad, I'm trying to block that negative mind of mine. Like i said i was a teenager who loved my life, I loved it i wasn't feeling lonely wasn't feeling anytinhg just happy and strong My point is i missed out so much and still do it

***** I think the only reason I have it so bad is because my confidence has been literally flushed down the toilet and floating in the sewers for 8 years now, becoming increasingly worse over time. I literally cant even talk to people anymore, old friends never stuck around to help me through anything and the only people who make an effort to see me are people who want to grope and force me to have sex. I have 0 friends and currently living with my parents who consider yelling and screaming at me a bonding moment. I think the military will help me gain my confidence back and finally be the person I'm supposed to be, maybe the difference is that I'm hopeful and want to change, I'm tired of the life I'm living at the moment. I leave Jan 31, wish me luck :)

***** Yes I'm a girl.. Its ok I don't really think its as serious it sounds, i was just super naïve and continuously put myself into situations where I was unsafe, people saw that I was vulnerable and they preyed on it. I always felt like i didn't really have a choice or like my safety depended on whether or not I did what they told me to do. At that point I had no friends and my parents had thrown me out so didn't really care to know where I was nor were they answering their phones so if I ever did have something really serious happen to me, I had no one to call and no one who would report me missing. Luckily ive grown from it all and know what situations to avoid, I just still have ''friends'' who swear they are cool and just want to hang out yet are continuously trying to touch me even though ive specifically told them I don't like it and it takes me to a bad place. I just wish people respected boundaries but they don't and I'm just way too trusting. I'm more likely to blame myself then I am to think maybe theres something wrong with them. Along with social anxiety I have a lot of other issues too lol but I know I can get over them :)

I can go to the market but in family gatherings I can’t function. There’s specific family members that trigger my anxiety I don’t know why. Also taking pictures is painful only in specific situations not all. Again don’t judge someone you have no idea what goes on in their head.

I have the same problem.I have social anxiety that's so severe that i've pretty much encased myself in it and my life is in my room. This has only been exacerbated by having chronic pain as well as amylophagia and i generally feel like a freak due to the latter. When i go in a store,if i see a person(s) down an isle,i'll go to another one until i find an empty one,and it's basically a game of bobbing and weaving in a maze to avoid people.I'm also 20,so i really know how this feels being of the age you should be a functioning adult, but severe social anxiety holds you back and you feel basically useless.Hopefully i can get some help like she did,and have that person explain to those around me that just think i'm being juvenile and immature.

Gosh this lady is doing so well with her social anxiety. I for one have such severe reactions when I feel that I have to attend a social function or meet people. I hate weddings, I can’t stand huge crowds anywhere. Sometimes I break and cry so much when I’m having an anxiety attack. It’s so crippling and I feel so ashamed about my condition that I haven’t told anyone about it. My husband and children know about my condition since they live with me. I feel that if I told my mom, brothers, sisters or relatives about it they might think I’m weird, weak or just making up excuses to avoid social situations. The real truth of the matter is I’m petrified of such situations where I’m in a crowd room of people and I feel I’m being judged, looked down upon, thought of as worthless, bad etc. Seriously when growing up I always felt bullied and teased by my brothers, parents and my self esteem has been torn to shreds. The fact that I was abused as a child and unloved just makes my social phobia more worse. I wish I could enjoy life and not care about people’s opinions of me and what I do. I feel safe within my own little circle of family and I have such a hard time trusting people. Most of the time I have been ridiculed, made ashamed of my skin colour, and my clothes that I just don’t wanna be around people anymore.

Social anxiety w/ adult selective mutism makes me fail every single job interview I go on. It doesn’t matter how brave I am or how hard I try. The physiological symptoms of anxiety prevent me from speaking or being able to think clearly. When I am able to speak it sounds very forced and uncomfortable to listen to. I record the Zoom interviews to try and troubleshoot my problems but I can never improve. The feedback I get every time is that I need to work on my communication skills. As a result, I have a master’s degree in engineering but I work as a test technician making less than half of what I should be making as an engineer with my degree. The company I was contracted to work for wouldn’t even hire me on as a full time technician despite the fact that I’ve been doing the job successfully for a year now on account of my communication skills. I’ve even been working more efficiently and accurately than the other technicians they did hire on so that was extremely discouraging and such bs. With communication skills being extremely important when it comes to engineering, I know that getting a job in engineering is a snowball’s chance in hell for me. It doesn’t matter that I graduated with highest honors from the honors program, I never worked as an engineer a day in my life. I never even got so much as an internship. I keep interviewing but failure is inevitable. Normally there are 3 rounds of interviews but I never made it past round one. I got my master’s degree when I was 23. Now I’m 25 and still not working as an engineer. I’m barely able to make enough money to not default on my loans and living out of my mom’s house. My life sucks because of this and I just wish the world would end already and everyone dies.

I have social anxiety. I hardly talk, but if I have to read something, I read it so clearly and loud in fear of being yelled at. I also speak like normal when threatening someone, but other times in school I would actually just be unnoticeable (I was actually standing still during gym and no one called me out for it lol)

I totally relate. I seem totally normal to everyone but then when i go home and then want to go back to social situations.... i get overwhelmed. I have social anticipatory anxiety. I have quit so many jobs because i dont want to face some comments. I had the exact same experience of repressing my emotions as youth and teen and then going into young adulthood, it got so hindersome...

My social anxiety can get so bad to where I will refuse to go in the store. It's been so bad to where I wouldn't leave my house for 3 to 4 months at a time. Not lying about those numbers either. It's getting easier, but it's still very difficult. When I walk out to check the mail, I stop behind my bushes first to make sure no cars are going to be driving by and that no one is outside on their porch so they can't see me. My family no longer even asks me to go out in public with them anymore because I just freak out the whole time. They say "ohhh just get over it" or "its okay" when in my mind it's the worst thing in the world. It's scary.

G U yaa thats what social anxiety actually mean at home alone with those people whom you are very comfortable with like your some family members or your childhood friend you can talk fluently without getting nervous but when you are social gathering you became an another kind of person and people will call you fake personality. but no its not cause during social gathering its my anxiety which stops me to talk to people without getting nervous or self concious. BUT my anxiety does not describes what im in real .anxiety makes you feel dump and always self consious about yourself in public but the matter is that you are not at all dump which you are showing in public..this social anxiety sucks..😞

Idk exactly how severe my anxiety is but when I go out alone for shopping or for some official work, I walk really fast(though I didn't need to hurry) i even run out of breath while walking at that pace n yet I don't slow down. And I NEVER look straight while walking. My eyes are always on the ground to avoid eye contacts with ppl on the streets. N if I see that some guys are checking me out, I would try to figure out was wrong with me(is it the clothes I wore or do I look weird??). They say if you face your fears, you will eventually take control of ur anxiety but idk why it isn't working for me :/

Severe social anxiety is truly relentless. It will not go away until you face your fears and talk to people. If this cannot be done then please get (real) therapy. You could be having a life right now that you would only dream of if it weren't for your social anxiety. The years WILL go by and there'll be nothing but regrets later on.

social anxiety is sydrom of deeper things going on in your psychy. certainly their were traumatising incidents in her past, she may got bullied for experessing her self, mocked shamed or guiltes her emotions. it's about getting in contact with these emotions so you are able to feal, heal and let go. nothing disappears without looking at it. what look disapperars, what resist persists. trust me i'm an emotianal mechanic lol without a degree but lots of experience. you can't take shit on icecream and and think it'll taste good. Maybe her sourounding of toxic (this one is huge) lots of betrayal, denial, minimisation of problems, gaslighting all this feeds into Anxiety. educate about all this folks. look at the spartan life coach, coach corey wayne, real social life dynamics, melanie tonia evans or lisa a romano. thank me later i wish her all the best.

And for a lot of people with social anxiety, it was planted by abusive people, whether they were parents or school bullies or nasty teachers, etc. Those with this affliction need to TELL THEMSELVES a new reality. They should TELL THEMSELVES they are free.

Honestly as someone with severe social anxiety, i struggle to speak, i struggle to articulate even if i slow down, my voice constantly cracks while im talking or im just totally unable to speak and I find it extremely hard to act normal, such as fidgeting and just having normal movements if that makes sense. I avoid going out if possible and i avoid social interactions as much as possible. N its gotten to the point talking or texting someone is extremely draining and stressful for me. Hearing her voice was just so painful. I really hope no one else has to go through this its incredibly awful.

This problem could take a lot outta your life if u don't do something about it soon enuf. Tell your parents about it, they're not the solution but they could lead u to the solution. U need to get involved with a 'jumpy' opposite sex fast! It's not the solution but it would lead u to it. U r different n that's why u r here. DO U BELIVE IN GOD? If u dont it MIGHT be harder to get out. God can lead u to your own path but u r going to have to walk through it yourself. N u may no longer need him(God).

I get anxiety attacks just at the thought of going outside. I need my door closed 24/7 or I will not feel safe. I put an insane amount of thought into how other perceive me. I cannot even talk about my interests in public without the fear of someone secretly judging me. I can't eat, sometimes I can't sleep either because of it. I assume everyone loaths me. every day of school is mundane and boring because I cannot get any work done in fear of someone seeing what I'm writing and judging me. Stores, walking outside, and social interactions all make me have anxiety attacks. I've had undiagnosed anxiety practically my whole life but only until now am I actually SUFFERING.

I can wing it and act like I’m not terrified of people to an extent and try really hard to push myself and maintain normalcy. Little do people know that on the inside I’m struggling really hard. It’s like torture and it’s exhausting. I don’t think she has to look like she has social anxiety I’m sure she has it. I’m not gonna belittle her struggle. You are ignorant if you say she doesn’t just because she’s pushing herself, it’s still a huge struggle. And yes, I know for some people it’s harder. Disorders come off in many different ways and you’re just as wrong and un-understanding to sit there and be like “she’s not having a panic attack on camera so she doesn’t have it!”.

After about 10 years of no one understanding; including you; you start to think that everyone thinks you’re LAZY or an “underachiever” especially when you have a talent like singing everyone says “man if I could sing I’d be rich.. etc. Hell to be honest I can barely hold a job because of it. I couldn’t even sing for my own brothers funeral. The amount of debilitating anxiety I feel with strangers; Just as well as friends is disheartening. Also doesn’t help that I’m now riddled with guilt. Lost a lot of ppl with a “Zest” for life! A passion for interaction and to an artist eye- a Art of interaction. Recalling every moment you missed out on a chance to make another memory with them. Knowing that every breathe you “waste” sitting alone waiting to “feel better” - they no longer have. Hell every relationship I’ve had with a human has been affected by this disease - that most people don’t even acknowledge or understand enough to believe in. Now I regret tarnishing relationships because I’m afraid no one will be around for my daughter(2yo) because I wasn’t there in the past. Her 1st bday I didn’t even invite ppl for fear they wouldn’t want to come. She deserves love from as many family & friends as possible. It’s a cycle smh.
