Hi doctor my I have a really bad insomnia and my doctor prescribed me buspirone but nothing for insomnia, I’m scared to take this medication since I can’t sleep nothing at nights, what sleep medication can I take with this ?
@CelestialTrailblazer2 жыл бұрын
The million dollar question. Does this medication cause your heart rate to drop at a dangerously low level. I'm very careful about taking any anti-anxiety medication since a lot of them cause a significant drop in resting heart rate. Which increases the risk of sudden cardiac arrest or stroke.

I was prescribed this about a couple months ago and still haven't taken it. I have anxiety about taking it. I have really bad health anxiety. My mind is constantly focused on my body. It's literally torture being in constant fear over my health. And anytime I have gone to get checked out over an issue I was concerned about they tell me there's nothing wrong. I'm a 37 year old man, pretty healthy and in shape. I just want to live my life in peace and not be in constant thought about every sensation my body has. I can't just muster up the courage and take the Buspar. I need too.

For the last 2.5 years I have worked at a call center on behalf of a health care system and the call volumes and stress have had their moments.for sure. However, Buspar has been a game changer and has helped me navigate through otherwise stressful situations where my critical thinking used to be taken over by insecurity,.self doubt and internalizing patients' frustrations. Dr. Aly and Dr. Rob, thank you both for all that you do. Give each other a hug instead and know that you've helped someone who tries hard to avoid prescribed medicine. I am more vulnerable while on this medication too. It helps me to bring up topics from at times a painful childhood and walk through fear. I am a Buspar fan. I stopped taking it in October after taking it for a while but I could see myself falling apart without it since then. I also have one of the best therapists. I'm grateful. I'm taking the medication again and won't stop anytime soon.

I thought anxiety was BS. Until last year. I'd be driving then feel light headed, almost like I smoked weed. For no reason. Followed by panic attacks. It was everyday. I was so drained because I had to fight through my panic attacks to keep working. Finally talked to doctor few months ago. And year of anxiety and panic attacks had stopped. I rarely get the weird head feeling, but when I do, I don't have panic attacks from it anymore. I will say. I take 5mg every morning. And take one if I begin to feel anxious. Dr wanted me to try taking 2 but I swear, 10mg made me feel stoned haha. So I'll stick with my 5mg at a time.

Wow, Mark! You experience with anxiety sounds exhausting. Panic attacks mixed with day-to-day anxiety can be a nasty combo. I'm so happy to hear that you found a treatment that is working for you. Ultimately, everyone reacts to medications differently. I went to my doctor after dealing with years of anxiety/high blood pressure that were caused by numerous negative events in both my work/personal life that I couldn’t control. I refused to take SSRI’s due to how my spouse reacted to them…..so he gave me Buspirone. I felt the effects of it in less than 2 hours…It literally made my brain so much less excited than it normally is and I felt like I could function better. I definitely like it so far. I am having some side effects such as dizziness and feeling a little slower…..I also use medical marijuana for Glaucoma and the Buspirone has dramatically increased the effects of THC, so I now have to tread lightly

It says “results from clinical trials of Buspirone for panic disorder in adults are generally unfavorable and data on its use in social anxiety disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder have produced mixed results. Evidence on the use of Buspirone for post traumatic stress disorder is too limited to be informative.” I was largely prescribed this for panic/ocd/GAD, in lieu of my requested Xanax or lorazepam. I’m questioning the efficacy?

It is also used by doctors to help treat the sexual side effects of SSRI medications. Yes you are taking one drug to treat the side effects of another, but it does work to help with sexual side effects. It blocks some of the negative side effects of more serotonin such as decreased desire, reduced or eliminated arousal etc.

These symptoms happen at random they come and goD I had all tests done under the sun and they couldn’t find anything wrong with me. I tolerate the medications very well but don’t seem to work I was on lexapro 40mg for 6 weeks and it didn’t work I’m on 3 weeks on 100mg Zoloft now but no improvements. The persistent dizziness is the worst. Do I have a rare disease or is it actually anxiety??? Doctors keep saying it’s just anxiety. The physc doctor told me I have acute anxiety.

Thanks for the advice, Dr. Aly. Tried replying to your reply to me on my last post but couldn't. Anyhow, unfortunately I am allergic to Buproprion. So I cant combine that with Escitalopram or Buspar. I feel like Buspar is really good for me. I just wish I could be prescribed a 90 ct instead of 30 ct. Is it normal to feel a 'high' feeling from it? It helps me not to ruminate about things out of my control.

I am taking 50 mg of Prozac and I have been on that for 8 years. Recently I’ve noticed that the Prozac is helping like it did with my illness anxiety so my dr put me on 7.5mg of Busbar twice a day. The first week I thought I felt okay but the second week I became very anxious. They decided to up it to 10mg per day and then I just was overloaded and couldn’t stop crying. I’m wondering if just taking 5mg twice a day would be best to help stop the side effects? They just keep telling me to take it but if I have to keep feeling this way I’m going to give up taking it. I don’t want to because I’m so hopeful to find something that works for me.

I can't wait until they actually come up with an anxiety medication that isn't addictive or have such side effects. Too bad psilocybin, MDMA, and Ketamine isn't widely available yet. Instead of taking a medication to mask the symptoms of the disorder, it would be fantastic for these to be approved to actually treat the disorder itself. In less time, not having to take medication every day, and not depending on BigPharma.

Started low and slow on this and God was it awful! I literally thought I was going to kill my son felt like I was going to rip his head off or something. Never felt like that in my life and never want to again. Made me rage badly. Screwing with your serotonin isn’t always the answer for anxiety. I think it’s a damn shame you can’t get a benzodiazepine in this world unless you’re dying. I literally have no quality of life since I’ve been off benzos and the SSRIs don’t work at all for me. Been stuck in the house for a year and can’t get one Xanax or Valium so I can even go to the doctors for physical issues or to the store. Why do they even make these medication‘s if they won’t give them to people who need them the worst? I haven’t heard of anyone having issues on a benzo in 20 years. I was on Xanax for a long time and never had any issues at all with my medication or my behavior. I cannot say the same for the SSRIs.

@dralywood3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for taking the time to check out this video. If you found the information to be valuable, please SUBSCRIBE as more videos are being released weekly! When looking at the FDA drug label for Buspar, it mentions that weight gain infrequently was reported by patients. Their definition of "infrequent" is adverse events occurring in 1/100 to 1/1000 patients. Therefore, the risk of weight gain with this medication is somewhere between 0.1% to 1.0%. With that being said, it also mentions that weight loss was seen "infrequently," meaning that 0.1% to 1.0% of those actually lost weight. Of note, when looking further at the FDA label for Lexapro, it mentions that "patients treated with Lexapro in controlled trials did not differ from placebo-treated patients with regard to clinically important change in body weight." This means that weight gain was seen at a rate less than 1% or lower than placebo, which is statistically insignificant. In kids, weight loss was actually seen more commonly than weight gain. I hope this was helpful! Yes, Buspar can be prescribed as a stand alone medication without another SSRI or any other medication. Buspar is usually prescribed for anxiety (not so much for depression). My symptoms Nausea Dizzy Numbness in limbs Pins and needles Dry mouth Muscle pains Heart rate Heart palpitations Blood pressure Ear pressure Bad breath Cold hands and feet Stomach trouble Acid reflux Bad dreams Vision problems.

Thank you for sharing your experience on the channel. I am sorry to hear about your experiences. Certainly given the variety of symptoms that you are experiencing I have counseled similar patients to continue to work with the primary care provider and specialists to continue ensure you do not miss any all-encompassing medical diagnosis. some medical diagnoses are very difficult to pin point and identify. However, some patients with a psychiatric diagnosis can have very real and debilitating physical manifestations being driven by their psych diagnosis. My education to similar patients in clinic is to continue exploring both the medical and psychiatric options. I am sorry I can not give you more specific recommendations because I am not your doctor, but I hope that I can encourage you and know that we do believe your symptoms. It can be frustrating for us as well when we can't find the cause.

sometimes it takes more than any 6 weeks. You should be feeling some difference though.

Does this med cause hair loss?
@dralywood3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jaimcy- Great question! According to the FDA drug label, hair loss was an "infrequent" symptom that was reported by patients. Their definition of infrequent was that it occurred in 1/100 to 1/1000 patients...or 0.1% to 1% of patients. Can you drink alcohol while on this medication?
@dralywood3 жыл бұрын
Great question! According to the FDA, formal studies have shown that Buspar DOES NOT increase alcohol-induced impairment in motor and mental performance. However, they do recommend against the use of alcohol when taking Buspar. (www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2001/18731s39s45lbl.pdf) With that being said, I have had patients tell me that drinking in moderation does not affect them negatively. One of the things to keep in mind is that we do not know for sure how alcohol affects the efficacy of the medication in an individual's system. Also, many people find that alcohol worsens mood and anxiety, which is counterproductive to treatment. Thanks for taking the time to watch and please SUBSCRIBE if you haven't done so yet! Does this medication cause TD? I’ve heard conflicting information regarding this.

like tardive dyskinesia?
@dralywood3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to check out this video. This is a great question! Buspar mainly works by affecting serotonin. However, it does have a moderate affinity for the dopamine receptors in the brain as well. Because of this, there have been questions raised regarding its potential to cause things like dyskinesias. According to the FDA label, "Clinical experience in controlled trials has failed to identify any significant neuroleptic-like activity; however, a syndrome of restlessness, appearing shortly after initiation of treatment, has been reported in some small fraction of buspirone-treated patients." It also later mentions under the section POSTINTRODUCTION CLINICAL EXPERIENCE that "Voluntary reports since introduction have included rare occurrences of allergic reactions (including urticaria), angioedema, cogwheel rigidity, dizziness (rarely reported as vertigo), dystonic reactions, ataxias, extrapyramidal symptoms, dyskinesias (acute and tardive), ecchymosis, emotional lability, serotonin syndrome, transient difficulty with recall, urinary retention, and visual changes (including tunnel vision). Because of the uncontrolled nature of these spontaneous reports, a causal relationship to BuSpar treatment has not been determined." Therefore, based on this information, I'd conclude that TD is something that potentially could be related to treatment with Buspar, but it is not something that occurs commonly in most patients.
