I have a 1947 Leslie morphus 25 that is modded with a 15 and horn So its a smaller cabinet but has all the major points of the large ones everyone wants but is actually manageable Also have a mini Leslie made from an old organ that had it inside The roto vibe and moen shakey jimi are definitely way different than an actual leslie but the rotovibe and uni have a good place and time for those sounds but they are different for certain
@MikelBluni2 ай бұрын
Wow that sounds cool. I gotta watch out for a smaller Leslie cabinet, too 👍 The Rotovibe is cool, but there are really better alternatives out there if you look for a Rotary in a pedal..I’ve mentioned a few in the video ✌️🎸
@craigshewchuk90182 ай бұрын
@MikelBluni I found the Leslie at guitar center for $300 they wanted it out of there cuz they didn't know what it was and taking up retail room. The neo vent is a good pedal but for the price I will stick with rotovibe. Shakey Jimi cheap pedal but has the real photon light modules to make effect like real univibe, I taped the lights for better intensity (old school mod)

MIKEL, YOu should try a bunch of different types of buffers pedals. One of the most overlooked effect is Roger Mayers BUFFERS circuits because he designed the buffers to add more Harmonics. They experimented with various buffer circuits with the fuzz face and wah. Roger Mayer would disconnect Hendrix strat TONE controls to have direct output so it changes the LOAD to the fuzz face or wah sweep. Hendrix Voodoo Chile with Steve Winwood on organ on electric ladyland is turning down the strats volume pot to 8 setting and the fuzz face vol and fuzz set at two 0' clock, it gets a nice warm overdrive pedal it doesn't sound like a fuzz but more like a tube screamer overdrive. When you get it down make a video lesson about it
@MikelBluni2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your inspiring input. Would you say bypassing the tone controls is worth a try? Actually, I had an idea for a buffer tryout video, but wasn’t sure if it could be of any interest ✌️🎸
@waynegram89072 ай бұрын
@@MikelBluni Yes get a bunch of different buffers to make a video lesson on how they work with the fuzz face and Wah SWEEP. Fender makes a Buffer that has a Presence control, Big Monk Electronics Buffer has a high impedance output. You have to find buffers that have a high impedance input and HIGH ( NOT LOW ) impedance OUTPUT . Roger Mayer had a bunch of different buffer circuits in the fuzz faces and wah pedals to create different FOOTPRINTS.
@waynegram89072 ай бұрын
@@MikelBluni Yes the Direct Through Solo Switch it was on early Telecaster called the "take off" for soloing. I think Hendrix disconnected the Tone pots in his strat for his clean tones using the SoundCity Amplifier to use the Midrange tone circuit of the Soundcity amplifier. You will have to find out which Hendrix sounds he used the Soundcity amplifier for his clean tones, like the wind cries mary and hey joe, castles made out of sand. The "take off mod" outputs a little more pickup level to DRIVE but also has more high end so you get those sparkling Cleans for those Hendrix Clean tones. The Marshall amplifiers are to DARK while Hendrix used the SoundCity for his Clean tones.

Univibe and Rotary are both supercool effects. For Univibe the Sabbadius Tiny Vibe I liked most (after seeing Randy Hansen live playing it helped 🎸🤘) for Rotary I searched a while and reaaaallly like the Neo Micro Vent 16 which is more Fender Vibratone Emulation than Leslie 122. But there is a Neo Micro Vent 122 too. Also they have got a bigger one in Stereo but the Micro has the blend function which is essential for me.
@paulp20332 ай бұрын
The rotary definitely sounds closer. The univibe seems to add some overtones which disturb the harmonic content. Probably more noticeable as there are no other instruments in the mix. Thanks for the great and informative video

I have not ever played a Univibe, and I am awaiting the arrival of my first rotating speaker, a Vox Gyrotone, but I have used a couple of stereo Leslie emulators with pleasing results: the Dynacord CLS 222, and the DLS Effects RotoSim. I noticed a RotoSim on Dan Vickery's board. Of course the Dynacord is a big ol' rack unit, and both of those are no longer made and fairly uncommon. I hear good things about that Strymon all of the time.

Thanks for your comment. Interesting to hear of some more Leslie effects/pedals. Only yesterday I came across a DSL…it looked great. The more we talk about it the more options pop up. I wonder if with that ease of nowadays good ole Jimi wouldn’t have one on his board 🤩🎸✌️

Do I prefer the Uni Vibe or the Roary Speaker? Both are super cool. The Univibe on BOG Machine Gun is incredible. Univbe is a bit easier to recreate. The Sabbadius uni-vibes are really great. It seems to me that the rotary speaker is harder to recreate. Many try, but most of them are not quite there. The Neo Instruments Ventilator 2 is the best rotary speaker emulation I have heard. No question for me though - it's a rotary speaker on Little Wing and Drifting. And to think I gave away a vintage Leslie 117 in the early 80'S :( Thanks for this revealing video.

Thanks for your great feedback. I’m with you, the recreation of a Rotary is a tough thing as there is the physical component in place. Have heard of the Neo Vent, still wanna try one out. So may sins I did in my youth…if I could get back half of the sales I’d be a rich man 😂✌️🎸💯

The H9 has such a good one, I’ve seen several guitarists using them just for the Rotary. Josh Smith(not the JHS guy) has a H9 Rotary setup, that people really like. The big Neo and one of the little ones, with just the speed control, were pretty spot on, especially just gigging or for a recording. I like the Gilmour Doppler effect, the Dawner Prince Pulse can do. It does its own thing, that’s a bit different from the Leslie, but I was able to get Leslie sounds from it. The Digitech Ventura, actually has a pretty good Rotary option, and they aren’t very expensive. It’s a figital pedal too, and it has a Uni Vibe setting, that is a good modulation, but its own thing, when it come to Uni Vibe. It’s nice to hear in stereo.

My favorite is still H&K Tube Rotosphere MKI has the non-latching breaker like original Leslie preamps so the speed is continuously variable Harder to find but I find it hard to give up that function If I lost mine and couldn’t replace it I’d be fine w MKII or possibly some newer sim but none sound as authentic to me as Rotosphere The others are too clean and perfect somehow This sounds real fwiw And yes there is a lot of Leslie (real as opposed to univibe) on Jimi’s records. Both are obviously beautiful but quite different from each other.
