I've recently completed First-Class a BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling degree, as a very mature student, and I've successfully brought up four children alone as a widow. I'd love to work as a school counsellor to help young people succeed and reach their full potential. However, I don't have any experience in this role (apart from with my own children, friends and relatives), so this channel's been amazing. I hope there'll be a video on how to help students who are being bullied, and knowing how to address the "bully" (probably not the right word to use) without their parents becoming defensive. I'm located in Germany, so I'd probably be looking to work at an international school as my German's still far from perfect.

I’ll likely be coming back repeatedly to this amazingly comprehensive video, so I have it saved! How much of this info can be carried over to high school counselling and do you have any advice on how to do well as a beginning high school counsellor?

Thank you! I’d use the same strategies mentioned in this video for high school but there are some additional things to prepare such as transcript reviews... high school is the only grade level I’ve never worked in so I don’t have a lot of experience there unfortunately.

I haven’t seen a self management plan but I do have a 30, 60, 90 day plan of tasks to keep counselors focused!

How often do you teach classroom lessons?

I’m a Middle School Counselor. I create the lessons and teachers present them. I only teach a lesson twice a year, meet the counselor and course selection for building schedules. 😊
