I feel like it's a matter of time and changes in social stigmas. There was a time when Titantic was seen as the most romantic film in the world, now opinions on it have soured. I think it's because an increasing number of men are realizing how manipulative and fake this kind of stuff is and how they are getting played. See back then, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and trusted them. Now it's becoming increasingly clear, that we're getting conned.

I feel like many "romance" films often have very unsympathetic female characters that cheat and get undeserved forgiveness. Even in the classic "trapped in a difficult choice between 2 men" trope for romance films often has what most people would consider "cheating" as she leads both men on.

My wife cheated and this is kinda what it was like, no apologizing, a lot of "poor me" and blameshifting, she was unhappy, etc. This video shows a little of the defensiveness, but in my case she started treating me just nasty, like it wasn't enough that she cheated she needed to kick me when I was down too. There's a psychology to it I've learned, a way to cope with having done something against their values, a tendency for the cheating partner to make the betrayed partner into a huge bad guy that somehow makes the cheating not as bad of an option.

Same happened to me. We were together for 10 years when she suddenly started treating me like utter trash. At some point I noticed a person and confronted her. She admitted she had been cheating on me for 3 years because I lost my job. The thing is I was already working a new, well paid job by the time she had started cheating on me. Love just isn't a real thing. Women are addicted to excitement and thus completely controlled by (temporary) emotions. They don't act or think rationally. The second you are not "performing" 100% optimally as a man she WILL consider replacing you. I haven't really felt any happiness since that happened. It's like I stopped living the second she admitted to cheating on me (while I was working 10 hours a day).

Some rumor years ago that once she was the mistress who had an affair with some actor who had a fiance or wife, then he broke up with the other woman and he end up with this actress and they have kids now. I don't know if she also had a boyfriend, that would be double cheating. Anyway, if she ever cheat or split from her current partner i can't feel bad for him.
