I know what you mean, I'd considered pursuing a PhD after doing my second Masters in science, but after an extensive hands on research project between two academic institutions I realised that scaling the academic ladder was not for me. It's not only really competitive, it often feels like each person you work with is an island (especially the further up you go) because people start to get more and more specialised. Hating the project itself likely didn't help, and neither did my supervisor being miserable for a lot of it because some other dude got a paper in on the thing he was working on before he got the chance. I now work as a programmer/software developer and I love it because I feel supported by my colleagues and there's the sense of achievement that every new project brings new challenges but then new knowledge that I can talk about if I apply elsewhere.

My sister and mom slip into Russian accents when talking to our chickens and cooking and all three of us will occasion slip into an English accents (Because Sherlock, Doctor Who, and Downton Abbey are on constantly) my cousin can do a good Australian accent because for three years she only watched H2O. I love how comfortable the generations after mine have become with the tags, geek and nerd... like literally embracing them with pride. They have become as arbitrary as saying you are athletic or academic. When I was a kid growing up in the US, the words geek and nerd were used by "the beautiful people" as a way to sting and suppress. I grew up hating those words and have only relaxed recently with them upon seeing how the younger generations have taken them back and making them a positive!! Well done! 😁 👏👏👏👏

People not studying and passing exams... I'm a world champion at that. I simply get the right subjects, every single time. My greatest achievements were having to read 14 books, only read 1, the questions were obviously about that 1 book or passing exams, multiple choice questions where I didn't even understand the questions or the answers. One time someone wanted to test this ability and just gave me a test from a subject I never, ever learned, right there on the spot. Passed! Barely, but passed.

@@wellesradio I have heard from various people shrugs. I know me personally I am not a bad person and I curse like a sailor since like my elementary school years. I know several other people who are also sailors who happen to be pleasant people. The saying that people who curse all have small vocabularies is debunked because several people who read a lot curse including several booktubers.
@wellesradio
@wellesradio 3 жыл бұрын
@@omarcook3663 I'm afraid I'll have to burst your bubble, but everyone thinks they are "not a bad person". People admit to murder and still say they are "not a bad person" because they love their grandma, treat their friends nicely, are good tippers, never raped anybody, and "only killed people who deserved it". Now you're changing the subject from nice people to vocabulary development, which is something on which we at least have some verifiable knowledge (kind and good people is too subjective). The fact is that some people curse a lot and some don't. The reasons behind this are different in many cases, but before we go into it we must acknowledge that "a lot" is also very subjective as is the list of words considered verboten. If you grew up in a home where nobody cursed, even cursing a handful of times throughout a typical week (10 or fewer) might be considered excessive. Some people consider "damn" and "Hell" to be off-color enough to make for a profuse curser. Others might say you have "potty mouth" for using more sexual imagery in your language. And still others only consider it excessive when it borders on Tourette's. As for the utilization of these supposed "curse words", their employment varies wildly. Some people use them profusely as filler words. Others use them colorfully with a flair for language. Yet others code switch from being heavy to non-users of words that they deem socially unacceptable in some areas of life. It has little to do with intelligence or how kind a person is. However, in some instances, it may tell us something about an individual's upbringing and emotional development. In those instances, the use of swear words is only the most visible symptom. More can be learned from tallying the size of their overall vocabulary and the emotional expression and emphasis. Someone who says "fuck" in every sentence will stand out, but the questions to ask are really "do they say much else?"; "are they angry/agressive/agitated when they speak?"; "is this excessive cursing a compulsive action?"; and "does it vary according to social circumstances and does the individual pick up behavior cues from others that may enhance or curtail the use of certain words?" I also wouldn't use "Book Tubers" as a watermark for anything that I wouldn't also put makeup youtubers or haul videos on. That's not a slur on any individuals, but in terms of projects that anyone can engage in (The Book Leo is a god damn neuroscience student. I'm not about to question her intelligence) it is one of the most frivolous, vain, and superficial pursuits. There are medical doctors with Twitch streams. There's really very little overlap and where there is it's not exactly highlighting the strengths required in their professional and personal lives.

I agree that Arrival is not a sad movie in general, I was perfectly fine until the last 10 minutes unexpectedly left me on the verge of tears. About crying after watching movies, the last movie that made me teared up was Christopher Robin. Funnily, I already watched it the year when it was released (2018, I think), and three months ago I watched it again for the old time's sake. I ended up a mess. All the life lessons hit pretty hard.

Coffee only tastes bad until your brain associates its flavor with the ability to not have a sleepy migraine. Then you'll start to like it, through the awesome power of self deception. I also totally relate to your crying at moments in stories that are not sad. It is the moments where people sacrifice some part of their self for others that get me, or when they show how much they care. The happy moments are far more tear jerking than the sad ones. I wonder if this is due to some personality trait.

How do you balance a relationship, Booktube and constantly reading without your partner feeling unwanted because you spent so much time reading? The reason I’m asking is because I don’t read as much as I would want to just because my relationship is a ldr and it requires a lot of reassurance and texting and attention and I feel like I can’t fully get into a book without constantly being on my phone so I just want to know your thoughts about that
@crazybookcanary8941

In any relationship one has to respect your hobbies, its one thing to want to take twenty minutes to read a book, your entitled to that, always, but to take twenty minutes to read a book and your partner is complaining your not paying attention to them. NO!! In any relationship theirs got to be a balancing act, spending time with each other vs doing what you personally love. You need that downtime away from each other otherwise your gong to drive yourself crazy, that's not a desire its a need and you have to demand that even if your not going to read. My parents for example, my mother loves to read my dad not at all, but if everything's in order in the house, like chores accomplished nothing going on and she's got a half hour to read he will not disturb her unless its an emergency or he absolutely needs to ask something of importance, NOT stupid crap, or needs her help. And when he's tinkering in the garage my mother does the same thing, she respects that that is his time. if someone needs constant reassuring, texting like every five minutes, and needs that constant constant attention that you cannot read that's not healthy for either of you. If this reassurance and attention is constant "all" day everyday its clear he wants you to divert attention from what you love to adore him. Simply put if he's so insecure and clingy that you cannot do what you love to a healthy degree you need to tell him simply that while you love him you need him to give you space and room and that just because he doesn't hear from you for half a day it does not mean crap, your not going anywhere, and he needs to stop demanding your attention. Its unhealthy, a little cringe, and very childish behavior, think high school. If he cannot respect your wishes then hon, I'd be rethinking the relationship. I'm a book lover myself, I have a huge library and often its the thing of many running jokes about how much I love them and where i put them and how much I read but jokes aside, if someone cannot respect your love of books and the time you want to spend with them no matter how long it is then they in turn are not respecting you. PS: Turn the phone off when you want to read, should help, everyone else can wait till your done and you contact them.

I definitely thought you were closer to 5'10/5'11, not because of being Dutch but for some reason it just made sense to me picturing you (maybe as a tall girl myself)! I am so surprised you are only 5'5.

The Australian accent thing is interesting! I think it's because the South African accent can sound Australian, and their accent comes from the Dutch colonisers.
