Best informative vid on the Star out there. I have had mine and tried to use it but have not had any success. On a THS I try throwing it in the same area as I normally would but end up skidding past the breakpoint. I try moving right (right handed bowler) 3-5 boards then I am through the nose. I tried knocking the shine down but did it with 4k because I didn't know, and still not the shape I am looking for. After watching this, It won't be the first ball out of the bag and I will hit it with 3k. I have 2 league nights to test it before I am off to Nationals.

I like the updated reviews… Especially the discussion of what a ball would do in the hands of a rev dominant vs speed dominant bowler. So here’s a future video recommendation (if you can somehow find the time lol). Videos for specifically speed (or rev) dominant bowlers putting together an arsenal of equipment. As a speed dominant lefty, I’d love to hear what you’d recommend…

Like I mentioned towards the end of the video, it's always hard doing that because depending on the conditions, anything can work for anybody, so if you have a wetter house shot, the list will be completely different than if it's a drier house shot. It's too hard to do stuff like that unfortunately because of the amount of variables.

Love the videos! Keep them coming! 😀 Question: How does the Attention Star compare to the DV8 Violent Collision? I’d love to see a comparison video for those two. Thank you.
@LukeRosdahl8 ай бұрын
The Violent Collision is closer to being a longer and sharper Exotic Gem, so it's definitely a handful of boards stronger than the Star. The Star is in cleaner more medium strength territory like the Absolute, Rubicon UC2, RST X3, Halo Pearl, etc.

@danielcunningham71698 ай бұрын
Nice to hear about the Reacta Gloss. Did they ever say what the cause was?
@LukeRosdahl8 ай бұрын
Well they never officially/publicly admitted there was an issue in the first place, but upon obtaining the SDS (safety data sheet) for it to figure out what the hell it was after the first couple balls I had with it sucked, the issue is that it's a boat/car finishing polish that had a slip agent in it, so it was hydrophobic. Finishing polishes are meant to be pretty but also keep out/repel oil, water, dirt, etc., and putting something designed to repel oil on something designed to absorb it obviously didn't work, so depending on different types of lane oil, it wouldn't come off the ball, and the ball wouldn't absorb it because of the gloss, so stuff would slime up and not hook. I'd imagine they just had the manufacturer take the slip agent out of the polish, OR they're using a different polish that achieves a similar result but just doesn't have the slip agent in it. Whatever the issue was, it seems to have been resolved at least, so all's well that ends well I think!

Even though they're both etrax covers, the Nuke's version was really strong, so this one isn't quite that far up there. I'm not sure Storm has a replacement for the Nuke right now, the Hammer Effect I think would be the closest ball on the current market to it.

Blackout is a half step up from this one. Similar rolls, the Blackout just has a stronger coverstock, but this one rolls a little heavier so it depends on the amount of friction you have. If you have plenty of friction, they won't seem that different, but if you get on more oil, then you'll start to see the Blackout pull away.
@rayjayks8 ай бұрын
The Blackout to me is crazy long down the lane, even with surface, but it really turns hard. I can't recall having any other ball that "waits" that long down the lane. It is a bit tricky to dial in sometimes because of this hockey stick motion, but I can usually stay with this ball a long time with minor speed adjustments. It's not a good ball for playing big angles for me. I've been interested in the Star, but I think it is fairly close to several other balls I already have based on a multitude of reviews. I think I've convinced myself to get an Exotic Gem after seeing it side by side with the Star. I want something earlier and can play deeper. Thanks for the great reviews, comparisons, and comment replies!

Constructive criticism of the format. Take it however you want because others might disagree. While i do like the summary, like a powerpoint being up when someone is presenting it distracts me from what you are saying because I am reading that vs listening or watching ball reaction. The detail of your description is why i watch your videos. Potential solution. Keep same format as before and similar to Casey Murphy, summary slide in between that you voice over. Either way I enjoy your content so keep it coming.
@LukeRosdahl8 ай бұрын
I did consider that, but the reason I did it this way is that for the people that find my commentary too thick, they can just watch the ball reaction and the notes, and for the people that listen to the commentary, you don't even have to read the notes because the notes are just a summary of what I'm saying. Sorry if it's still distracting, I figured that would be the case for some. However, there's a problem either way. For Casey, people complain that he doesn't leave the slides up long enough, but he does that so that if people want to read, they can pause the video, and for the people that aren't interested, they don't have to sit there for 30 seconds waiting for the slide to end so they can keep watching the video. Interrupting the video for any reason makes people leave, so that's why the ball reaction continues and anything I put in the video goes in the sidebar, so that if people want it, it's there, but if they don't, I'm not interrupting what they're watching. Having to play the YT game just forces me to do some things I don't really want to do or that aren't ideal.

@LukeRosdahl8 ай бұрын
Yeah sorry about that, it just had to be done. Plus I got tired of hearing "you really should throw the ball out of the box so we can all see it the way they intended it, when you change the surface I don't know what I'm going to be getting if I leave it at box." Angel might get back into some eventually, but we really have to wait and see. Highly doubt SPI will decide to start sending us balls again, though they do send other unaffiliated parties balls for reviews.

I only have room for 1 more ball and i ball down to exogem after bw 2.0h, im thinking summit peak or journey at 2k, this attention star is too similar to the gem imo, also threw my first 300 off a 289 with the gem saturday night
@LukeRosdahl8 ай бұрын
The Star isn't really that close to the Exotic, this is one of those feels further apart than it looks type of things, but if you have the Exotic below your BW 2.0h, then you're not really bowling on enough oil for stuff to be that different, because the 2.0 hybrid is weaker than the Exotic actually, 2.0h should be a step down from the Exotic, then the Star would be a step down from the 2.0h. The Summit Peak is actually a stronger/earlier ball than the Star, it's just not as responsive, so that's why I listed it as a ball sideways from the Star. With the way it sounds, you'd probably need to drop down to an XPonent or maybe even like an original Hyroad to get any kind of separation, because the Journey cover is still stronger than the Star's cover and with the amount of friction it sounds like you have, you're not going to see much if any difference between it, the Exotic, or the 2.0 hybrid because of how responsive the Journey is.

How does it compare to the Eternity ( Original)?
@LukeRosdahl8 ай бұрын
This one has a weaker cover formula, so it's a little weaker, a little cleaner and a little sharper. The Eternity was clean and angular enough that they won't feel a ton different, especially because of how much the core in the Star gets done. They're further away on paper than they look on the lane, let me put it that way.

It's strong as hell for me. Doesn't have that wiggle in the oil that most Reacta Gloss balls have.
@LukeRosdahl8 ай бұрын
I might have mentioned this before, but I heard they buffed all the cover strengths recently too, the increase in hardness hurt because of how clean most of their covers are, and then combined with obliterating the surface with the gloss, it was just too much. I'd imagine they just had the gloss manufacturer remove the slip agent, there's no other way to "fix" a hydrophobic compound/polish.
