So the festival bonuses are per turn for the rest of the game once that festival is completed? I couldn't tell from the UI (usually the per turn stuff has the weird clock thing after it). The Encyclopedia was silent on the topic. I did some quick google searches and my low opinion of internet comments was reaffirmed. Maybe they deliberately left out the per turn weird clock thing since it adds to the Main District? Anyway great video as usual!

Plus, when do you build food buildings? I’ve been waiting until my food per turn dips below 10 per turn. Plus for the festivals for example the plus 5 is per turn for the rest of the game?

Hey JumboPixel, I think it would be a good idea if when talking about infrastructure, you'd talk about what key landmarks to look out for because there will be infrastructure upgrades that depend on the environment. Eg; Forests, mountains, and rocky areas are amazing for production increases later on in the game
@jamesrogers59733 жыл бұрын
It would be super useful if the game showed you what the yield increase per turn of building an infrastructure improvement in a city would be, based on the districts / worked tiles you already have. Similar to how it shows you recommended places to build a new district. Trying to do the maths makes my brain hurt every time...
@connorcrump38253 жыл бұрын
not only that but there is not place in the city menu that shows how many of a type of district you have. so to calculate the yield on something like the granary you would have to manually look throughout the city for farmers quarters or just remember how many you have built
@Jon03873 жыл бұрын
Thanks, city management has been an area I don’t understand well. I completely ignored the ceremonies because I assumed they only gave temporary bonuses for some reason. So should my priority when founding a new city be to create just a few districts, then focus on Infrastructures then ceremonies?
@JumboPixel3 жыл бұрын
As I say in the video, your priorities will be dependent on your start, the yields on the territory, and your cultural affinity! Hard to give sweeping suggestions. I would generally suggest you pick up some vital early infrastructure at least though! To be truly effective, it needs citizens and jobs as well though, so a balance is best. As for the ceremonies, they’re always good. And repeatable, so they can be useful for focusing in on weak points early on - like the instant and long lasting bonus to faith or food that early ceremonies offer.
@aelarion8273 жыл бұрын
Most useful one I've seen for early bang for the buck is the one that adds influence. Since it's a permanent bonus + per turn, the earlier you increase your city's influence the more valuable it is (e.g. to claim territories, civics, etc., as the turns stack up). Religion might be ok if you find you have a big trade city that's getting a lot of pressure, that one holy day ceremony might push you over the edge to start influencing all the cities you trade to.
@yaboykirby77893 жыл бұрын
I'd say number one priority is go ton of districts, make sure you settle your city near a river, get river infrastructure and then probably woods infrastructure if you have a reasonable of woods and go mountains+stonefield+rockyfield one if you have a lot of those with a city. My best advice is to just read all the effects different things give and work out which one gives you the most boost, for example I don't recommend the building that gives +5 production per copper +1 production per makers quarter and a further +1 per adjacent makers quarter but if you have 4 copper then you should 100 percent do them. I don't think you should focus on stability too much (make sure it doesn't go below 30 for too long and if it does go below 30 build stability stuff), once you meet enough people to trade enough resources with I've ended up on 100 stability on both of my high difficulty games

Thanks for the content. I've used ceremonies a few times but I don't feel they are worth it in the majority of cases. I think the base feast is 125⚙️ So for plus five 🌾 that's 25 turns to break even. Seems reasonable if an early game city doesn't have enough 🌾 tiles. Later game though, if you have less that 25 turns it's not an efficient use of ⚙️. The same goes for late game infrastructure, if the bonus over the course of of the game doesn't exceed the ⚙️ it isn't efficient. No where I've used ceremonies the most are for faith and stability. Two resources I feel which are harder to manage.

Not sure I agree with public ceremonies as the game goes on. The food one seems ok as you demonstrated, but the return on investment for most of the rest seem awful. The Festival comes in Medieval, but by that time the +2 Influence would be pretty poor, but in your example it was going to take you 7 turns to build it. 7 turns for +2 Influence when you were making 1.2k influence a turn. Similar stories for the money and science ones too. Can't say I've ever bothered with any of them. Infrastructure is good though.

You need to build your cities better from the start. If you want to go last era.. forget the military cultures. I will advise you start with the Egyptians, try to find a spot were 3 territories touch each other, and build 3 pyramids there in a triangle that will feed each other. Also build the big Pyramid wonder that reduce 25% the cost of all districts for the rest of the game. Do not level up too quickly here.. Try to do this triangle in 2 cities before leveling. 2nd culture.. If you are good with food (Like on a island with huge sea where you can build ports, that you can hugely boost with the religions tenets), go for the Maya. Add the special building of the Maya to your initial pyramid triangle to make a bigger triangle.. If food is really a problem (you need to pay really attention to have your cities grow in population all the game), go for the Celts. 3rd culture.. go for the Khmer, their special building is totally broken and keep adding it to your initial triangle. The Khmer special also serve as a Farmer quarter, so now you can start adding farms there too to keep supplying your cities with food. (Don't forget to upgrade your infrastructure along the way) 4rd culture.. if you build everything correctly and you don't have major problems.. (remember it's important to have high population in your cities to fill all the spot available in your quarters) It's time to start investing in science.. go for the Joseon and start building small circles of 1 special building + 3 research quarters by territory. 5th culture .. if everything still good.. go for the French, add their special building to your early 1+3 tech from the previous era. Mexicans are also pretty good with food (+10% bonus) 6th culture .. Finish with the Turks, their special building give +300% Science per adjacent Science Research Quarter and if you add it correctly to your 1+3+1 you build previously.. you will gain enormous science, and surpass the 100.000 per turn easily. This is the "standard" build I advice when doing for a normal run.. works relatively well.. Of course, you need to adapt to each different game, different maps, etc. You should try to always compensate what you are lacking to not be stuck and always allow your cities to grow.

Probably get cities up faster and trade more often. Invest in influence above all else early. Claim maybe 4 territories then focus on saving influence for your second city. Wait until you have the civic for -50% outpost cost to claim more territory. Try to wall off the AI. Bonus: By growing fast you also will grow your religion. Take influence from mountains and +5 on research quarters. An easy way to jumpstart your game on higher difficulty is Zhou into Achaemenid Persians. As Zhou use your bonus science to get through the tech tree and then your affinity to assimilate independent cities with influence. (Which not only costs way less than hard building a city but includes some city infrastructure AND military units.) If the Persians are available you can assimilate a fourth city the turn before you switch. The over city cap penalty will go away the next turn since Persia has +2 city cap. Then research city cap techs and assimilate/expand as your influence allows. Always stay 1 city over the cap. (Or even 2 as you start earning enough influence.) Use Persia's affinity to steal any territories with resources you want but the AI got before. (When stealing territory surround the outpost with military so the AI can't stop your progress.) Build your Satraps Palaces right away for bonus influence and money. Now start trading. I tend to focus on food and industry luxuries first. But trade for literally every copy of every luxury you can. You'll barely need food and industry quarters. You should have like 6 or 7 cities by the time the classical era is done so the game is all downhill from there. Definitely try to find the new world. I like to focus on science the rest of the game because researching key techs first gives you fame, so either France or Umayyads in Medieval and beeline patronage to build manufacturies. And build wonders.

I still don't get what the point of the ceremonies is. Unless you're having stability problems (though you should really be building garrisons and commons quarters if that's the case) or an unusual lack of land, there's literally no reason not to just make districts as their yields will always be higher (after you build the infrastructure of course). They're simply pointless!
@JumboPixel3 жыл бұрын
They can be repeated, and never cost *any* stability. They help bolster yields for cities. The early food and faith can be very useful, dependent on geography, difficulty, *game speed* and your culture. Kind of the thesis of the video hahahah
@peacefuldawn68233 жыл бұрын
@@JumboPixel I know what you said, but my point is districts will always give you more yields, are themselves repeatable, and cost about the same as projects (hell, they cost WAY less at the start). Again, I just don't see the point in projects when there's no limit to district placing, because if your stability is getting low, instead of building projects you should just be building the two districts that give you stability so that you can keep placing more districts.
@PowerToast3 жыл бұрын
@@peacefuldawn6823 I mostly agree with you, but consider the Parade. Access to a repeatable, permanent +5 starting XP has been strong in my marathon length games, especially when I'm waiting to get the tech to get to the new world. If I'm ahead on infrastructure and if I don't have enough stability for more districts (I like to have 2 influence per pop as much as possible so I'm usually keeping my cities at 91%+ stability), I'll run some Parades so that my new recruits can keep up with the veterans I've been building up since the Ancient and Classical eras. Other than that, the +5 faith per holy site can be really strong too if you're looking to get some religious grievances on your neighbors (or just if you're trying to maintain your own faith in your homelands for that matter). But yeah, after that +5 of a non-industry yield on the Main Plaza is pretty lackluster in the face of every single other option available to you, haha.
@magiciangob3 жыл бұрын
@@peacefuldawn6823 I'm with you. One district plus one garrison gives more yields for a net -5 stability (or less, depending on choices) and for cheaper than the cost of any repeatable. Not too difficult to cover that -5 through luxury trade. I can see the argument for the XP thing, although armies are a dime a dozen in my experience so XP means little to me. The repeatables need a real boost if I am to consider them, they're pretty ridiculously underpowered at this time.
@sacavain54883 жыл бұрын
Basically, it's not worth to build anything else than districts. I feel like it goes this way: 1) Special districts: you build those first because you have a limited time to put them down during the era you're in 2) Districts: you balance the type to fill the different needs of your city (but prod / food in the early stage, then you branch up for money/science) 3) Once you hit stability issues, you either go for garissons/plazas (can't recall the name here) or stability infrastructure (but you would first try to maximize luxuries by exploiting and trading) At that point, yes, you can reach a point where some of the infrastructures can be worth the production cost (excluding utilities like stability or walls). But that's usually a long time in a developping city. Otherwise, it can quickly fill a gap when you just need a bit of food and have past eras infrastructure not built). There are a few outliers that be built before (prod and food on river/forest for example) Of course, mid game you have a bit of catch up to do because some of the late infrastructures are getting interesting (mainly science ones with percent bonuses) but to say your cities NEED those improvements is a bit of a stretch. Ceremonies? Except a few edge cases (want to push religion early), those are mostly bad so never build them. As production queue deal with one thing at a time, I don't see much uses of having objectively worse yields per prod than what you could do with it on other stuff (districts, wonders, units, etc.).

My only problem is pollution. I don't build late game industrial infrastructure because of pollution.
@cragnamorra3 жыл бұрын
I do the same. I don't build any pollution-increasing infrastructure at all, and very few districts. Only a couple aerodromes, maybe a missile silo if I plan to go with nukes on the playthrough. I don't really think the train stations are worth it...I'm not moving units across my territories nearly enough to warrant the pollution. The cities still seem to reach about 100 pop and 2-3K production without those, which seems plenty enough for late-game needs. I might, however, sing a different tune once I bump again in difficulty level.
@PowerToast3 жыл бұрын
@@cragnamorra One thing I didn't realize about pollution is that you can apply a cumulative 90% reduction to pollution from makers quarters if you build all the renewable energy infrastructures in the city. That can really help make room for railroads and pollution generating infrastructures. I think it's probably a good idea to specialize your cities, though... Imagine a city with gobs of research quarters and only a handful of makers quarters. If you get +10% overall science for the cost of 0.5 pollution per turn (assuming you have a 50% reduction from renewable energy infrastructures) over, say, 6 Makers quarters... That seems like a pretty good deal. Doesn't work if you've built a single Megacity with 116 Makers quarters, though!

@@PowerToast Yeah and I do build those, since they still contribute (although not all that much) to production even if one doesn't have much pollution. tbh, I need to do a playthrough (or perhaps just go back to an industrial-era save, lol) where I don't worry about pollution at all, even drive it up recklessly, just to understand the mechanics of when it goes really bad, what happens at different levels, when does the game reach "planet unlivable", etc. I've probably been playing way too conservatively with it.
