I wish that I could do your groundwork class right now while my guy is groundwork only. I learned a lot from my 3 sessions with my instructor but now she's moved and you're all I have Amelia. He just tried out his new french link snaffle today and loved it soooo much better! I wish that I could pack up my son, horse, dogs and possessions and spend the summer training with you!

haha that's so kind of you to say! Don't worry though, there will be another enrollment for the groundwork masterclass in the fall. Hope to see you there.

Hi Amelia. I would love to see a post about proper saddle fit and how it effects your horse. I had a recent horrific experience where a trainer whom my friend recommended and was using started us on basic dressage as we were coming from the hunter world. Well a dressage saddle was recommended to us to try and it turned out to be a horrific nightmare and costly one… my horse needed up with a severe back injury now going on two months and finally going sound again due to poor dressage saddle fit. The saddle I found out the gullet was too narrow towards the back ( and it was stated to be a M/W saddle) and also had a twist to it so the saddle would cause me to lean left meaning the tree was pushing from left to right on her lumbar. Dressage saddles got so differently than hunt seat saddles as they put you more in the horses back. Saddle fit will effect the way your horse goes because there is so much to a horses back and shoulder that I think even saddle makers are still learning. Don’t make the same mistake I did and it was very very costly as I was recommended a saddle and my fault I didn’t double check the fit!!

Always try to have a saddle fitter come to evaluate your saddle before you buy it. “ A Day in the Life of a Saddle Fitter” with Poppy, is a good You Tube channel.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. I would definetly recommend getting a licenced professional saddle fitter. I have a little video here on basics, but definetly the help of a professional is the best route. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYq2poyLgNOkopI

Hello Amelia. I was listening to your video on seat position while you were riding. You mentioned your knee needs to be in the saddle and toes forward and foot level, not so much heels down or toes out. Well I have to tell you that I did all this plus shortened my stirrups one whole. What a difference? I got a new gear as you mentioned. The horse I ride is a 15/16 year old Dutch Warmblood. I am looking forward to watching your videos on Thursdays on You Tube Can you tell me what time do you start your sessions Denver time, as I live in Denver (Aurora, CO) More later.

Hey Amelia. First of all... thank you for all the brilliant advice you post, it's been so so helpful. Today I went on my 3rd ever hack. On canter, my horse started to buck. I wasn't sure what to do, so tried to lean back more and follow her motion with the reins. What is causing her to buck? Is it me? I know i can tense up in canter.

Hi Simon, first, glad to hear you're enjoying the videos. It's hard to tell what caused her to buck without seeing video (could be saddle fit, could be fly or footing, etc). Leaning up/back is a great move, and if you've taught her an emergency one rein stop- that's also a great choice. Just make sure you've practiced it on the ground first though!
