The is for all this excellent info!! Can you speak to the difference in materials? I’m considering getting a stainless steel gong from WOM. I currently have a chao gong. I hear steel fades away faster when played and might have a more harsh tone because the metal is thicker. Is that true?

Hi Jaya - yes I can speak about different materials. Stainless steel does fade away faster so you have to strike the gong more often to achieve a similar sustain. And harder mallets help - felt covered rather than fleece. WOM are one of the better makers of stainless steel gongs. But there are many types of stainless steel which is why stainless steel gongs from different manufacturers can sound so different whereas nickel silver gongs from manufacturers who use the same thickness of NS can all sound more or less the same.
