I love these kinds of instructional videos. They are quick and give you lots to dig into and somewhat of a road map to explore on your own. Great stuff. Thank you

Always amazing stuff to work on. Your knowledge on guitar is unbelievable! I know you've dabbled in classical guitar things, have you ever done a tab on Claire De Lune?

Superb lesson and tab much (much) appreciated. My guess is you’re no fan of tabs, but the kids sitting in back of the class (like me) sit there for a reason. Were you to tab out one of your tunes for us, the cheers would be deafening.

Hey Ken!! Thankyou for the comment!!! Really not too sure what people want tabbed - tryin to get my ear to the ground now tho - what did you have in mind?

Have you seen the YT clip of Mark Cosgrove’s “Washington County?” His take on it sounds a lot like your head-turning playing. Not for the faint of heart, but that tune would be a great addition to any pickers repertoire. (Especially the kids in the back). Love your vids, they’re a real-time lesson in what’s possible on steel string guitar.

chris! would love to see a lesson on those double/triple stops you threw in at the end. How do you think about their progression and find them up and down the neck? Maybe demo some of tony's classic chordal licks he would throw into solos. Another thing that would be be cool to hear about is more advanced bluegrass rhythm, maybe breakdown some interesting picking patterns or those rhythmic fills that can be used to create drive. I also think you have a great understanding of jazz substitutions, curious to know how you approach using those in more standard bluegrass tunes - I love when a tony tune starts out straight then you hear a 9th or 11th where you dont expect it or he starts following the melody/bass up the neck almost in a texas swing style.

Hi Chris, nice work as always, thanks for that. The first time I stumbled across this method was when I tried to analyze Lyle Mays - Pat Metheny's pianist. He used this left hand E major versus right hand B major trick (or correspondingly in other keys) a lot. And I shamelessly stole these riffs and melody lines, I must admit. I always found this way of thinking easier than saying: "Now comes an E#7 chord and for that you use the Lydian mode". Anyway, I never followed your approach of sequencing a chord. And for that reason alone, it was worth it for me to watch this video. Of course, this means that I now have to spend weeks learning these sequences in different keys. What is it called? Art is 99 percent perspiration and 1 percent inspiration. Thank you for your 1 percent! One more question and a request: I've been struggling for years to create a usable acoustic version of the Jimi Hendrix songs "Little Wing" and "Angel." Perhaps you could contribute some good ideas for this endeavor. Keep on posting, Chris. Musicians really need persons like you.

Is this not the same as using the Lydian mode?
@chrisbrennanguitar Жыл бұрын
No..E Lydian has an A# note .. B major pentatonic contains the notes B, C#, D#, F#, G#.. these notes are found in The E major scale - played over E it outlines four notes used in the E major 7th chord .. E G# B D#… and thus the sound is created
@ParaBellum2024 Жыл бұрын
@@chrisbrennanguitar Thank you. In my simple mind I think of modes as being major scales rooted in one chord, played over a different chord. In your example of B played over E, what mode is this closest to then?
@chrisbrennanguitar Жыл бұрын
@@ParaBellum2024 Ionian mode - I prefer to just call it the major scale tho - Cheerz chief
