I literally built a desk using spare wood and and old fish tank base. Started shooting some vlog type of footage and editing on it using my smartphone and tablet literally because of your channel. Don't know where it's gonna go and don't care as long as I'm simply just doing it. Nervous about posting on KZbin though. Baby steps ya know. Thanks for the inspiration.

I think this is now my favorite video. Currently take all my photos on my phone (LG V10). And I always seem to get in my own head and focus on gear (or lack there of). Gotta stop holding myself back. You are definitely helping with that. Thank you.

I really needed this video. For the past few months I've been working a lot on getting better at photography and building my instagram, and this week Uni's exams came up and I thought I didn't have the time to shoot. I started worrying about not uploading consistently, on how I'm gonna need to upgrade my gear to produce better quality images, and before you know it I was looking at new lenses to buy. However, instead of thinking about how I'm gonna shoot stuff, I just need to go out and actually shoot! My quest for new camera lenses brought me to your channel and you've already earned you another subscriber. Looking forward to more!

Really diggin your vlogs man. It's nice to see someone at your level talk about how the gear doesn't matter. I totally agree, I have people ask me all the time what gear I use and my response is the same, the gear doesn't matter. It's about telling a story. Keep up the good work bro.

How do you just "add an outlet"?
@BenDunlop5 жыл бұрын
You Google how, go buy the equipment & parts, then do it yourself. I did it to wall mount the TV and run power neatly. It's not hard
@shredpudding27955 жыл бұрын
You can reroute the wires and put in a plug.
@deanbaker66434 жыл бұрын
@@BenDunlop be careful with how you just do that, in Australia adding a outlet must be done by a licensed electrician, home DIY can lead to big fines

Cool video yet again! I really enjoy watching your vids and very useful tips! Very nice office/closet! On your gear "rant" I wanted to pitch in, because I do have lots of gear and I'm still expanding, but the reason behind that is: I want to grow as a company. By having gear inhouse for practically every kind of shoot I can just cater to every need of my clients. For example: I still use my Sony HDR-FX1 and Sony HVR-Z5 for specific assignments that will suffice with these types of camera's. If I want to shoot a short film in very High quality I can use my FS5 or A7s Shogun combo. For just run & gun stuff I can use my C100. It's just being able to take whatever I need on a specific day/shoot instead of calculating much time to go to a rental company, test the camera's that are almost always been beat to hell (because people just aren't very careful with those things), getting back, program the camera the way you want/need and spending a lot of time the next day bringing it back again. Now I can easily send out people I hired to do an assignment for me, providing them with the gear I know creates the best images for my video's. So if you're always going to be a one man band I get it that you don't need more camera's than you have hands, but if you want to grow and not rely on rental companies for every shoot you don't have the specific equipment for, I say that having much gear isn't necessarily a bad thing!:) Anyway, keep on doing these awesome video's! You're now officially up there for me together with Jon Olsson, Film Riot and a really small group of youtubers I gladly give my precious time to on a daily basis!!

Yeah! Gear doesn't matter, but infatuation is somehow hard to control. I have always been a gearhead and, as hard as I try, I cannot kill the lust for a newer, better, CLog shooting (or SLog) camera. Better this, better that, etc etc etc. But I agree that you have to stay focused on your craft. I love your aesthetic. I am happy I found your vlogs

I have a hand-me-down 5D-MKII.. a 50mm a 24-70mm a 70-200mm and an 85mm L-series + a manfrotto tripod.. this is essentially my entire kit not counting some gradient and netural density filters, and it's entirely adequate for pretty much any situation I could come across.. I had about 25 lenses at one time but have since sold most of them.

Skip to 5:17 for the rant. Great rant... USE. YOUR. GEAR. I'm def guilty of too much time researching, buying, exchanging gear + youtube vlogs/other people's work. Cheap equipment can shoot a high enough quality for youtube, the creativity is the hardest part. I bought a cheap camera, because I knew I wouldn't do much with it. I like taking pictures and such, but when it comes to making a movie I really don't have anything to say, and the best equipment wouldn't change that.
