Not only is my gear old, I'm old also. I will be 67 this year and I have cameras older than I am. They have no batteries because the shutter is controlled by springs. There is no sensor in those old cameras, just film. Now I do have modern cameras though I prefer DSLR cameras to mirrorless. My two favorite digital cameras are a Canon 5Ds and a Nikon D800e (both high megapixel DSLR cameras). I have a couple mirrorless cameras, but I don't use them much. I used to have more of them but I gave them away. I use digital more than film, but I like to use film from time to time. Just for the fun of it. You see, many of us photographers are a bit old fashioned (or maybe just old). I love the satisfying *clunk* of a TLR shutter as much as the outstanding color depth of my nice DSLR cameras. I really do love the old equipment. I'll go to thrift shops and buy old broken down cameras and take them apart and fix them. The newer a camera or a lens is, the harder it is to fix. At any rate, the whole process is fun for me. Finding them, fixing them, giving them away to friends and family, planning a shoot, going to a site, taking the pictures, processing them and showing them. I like every step along the way. So that's why photographers do what they do. We're dumber than a box of ball peen hammers when it's time to pull nails but we do know how to have some fun. Of course, some people (myself included ) are very easily amused.

Why do you prefer DSLRs to mirrorless digital?
@danncorbit36237 ай бұрын
@@rtr0spct210 I wrote a very long reply, which vanished when I posted it. Let me summarize. My cameras are much less expensive than mirrorless. My film and DSLR cameras share native lenses (both Canon and Nikon). I bought Gen10 Focus Confirmation Chipped adapters for my m42 glass for my Nikon and Canon cameras and my Nikon AI and AI-S glass for my Canons. I like a real viewfinder with *perfect* resolution. With my battery grips, I can shoot all day without needing to change batteries. I love the feel of these cameras in my hands. I love the sound of The shutter. I have been using them so long they are like old friends. There are incredible D lenses for the Nikons that are incredibly inexpensive. I don't need eye autofocus. Choose single point and put it on the eye. I rarely shoot at wider than f1.8 anyway, since I don't really like the f1.2 look where one eye is in focus and the other is blurry. I have magic lantern on one of my 5D Mark II cameras and zebras don't seem necessary to me, I can live without them. I see no reason to downgrade to mirrorless. Now, when an affordable mirrorless camera with 8k and two type B card slots comes along, I might pull the trigger. Not that we need 8k today. But when technology advances, it might be nice.
@rtr0spct2107 ай бұрын
@@danncorbit3623 Thanks for re-writing your reply, I appreciate it. I can relate to what you said about the the viewfinder actually, I don't have a DSLR but I have an Olympus OM1-n and the viewfinder (although a little foggy these days) is a pleasure to use compared to the digital viewfinder screen on my A7iii. I've not used a DSLR for 10 years or so, maybe I'll have to try a few second hand ones and see how they feel in the future.

Colour management is the key. First, you must calibrate your screen. Second, you must lock white balance and exposure. On auto, these will change colour tint and saturation continuously, making grading a nuisance. If you don't colour manage, you're always aiming at a moving target and the results will vary randomly.

Windows color management sucks balls. Even if you have a colorimeter and calibrated the monitor, video you watch on windows will not be mapped to your monitors color gamut. SDR will be over saturated. The only way it will is if you have HDR enabled, then windows will map the SDR content to your monitor and content won't look over saturated. It won't be accurate, but at least you'll finally be in the ballpark. For Resolve on Windows, you need to import your monitors display LUT but I've never figured out how to use it. This is all opposed to the way Mac OS works. Mac OS has OS-level color management. Load a display profile on Mac and eevrthing will be mapped the way it should.

The key to stripping the tweaking out of Sony color in Davinci Resolve, is to bookend your node tree with the correct Color Space Transform. The first node converts the color space (Sony S-Gamut3 Cine, in my case) and Gamut (Sony S-Log3, in my case) to Davinci Wide Gamut Color Space and Davinci Intermediate Gamut. Then, I have my standard adjustments. The last node (or, second to last, if I'm applying a film look) inputs Davinci Wide Gamut Color Space and Davinci Intermediate Gamut and outputs Rec.709 and Gamma 2.4. I know that is all a bit dry and technical, but there are some excellent explainers out there on this network of tubes.

My 5D Classic and 5D Mark II with old EF lenses have WAY more character and a vibe to them the RF line cannot touch. Ive owned the R5, R6, RP, R, R10, R50 and R7...so I have tried damn near every one of them. None compare to the 5D and 5DII when it comes to a great photo IMO. I also much prefer my Panasonic bridge cameras (FZ50 and FZ200) to the newer mirrorless cameras. Ive owned the GX85, G95, G9 and S5II. The FZ200 and especially the FZ50 with the CCD sensor have a much more filmic look with some great character thats lacking in the G series cameras. Its a shame

I would recommend looking a bit into more modern technology regarding to sensors to be honest. Your main argument for low MP sensors is dynamic range and noise mostly, but at least when it comes to DR, there are so much better ways nowadays to this, Quad Pixel Bayer Array sensors! Its technically for example a 12 MP sensor in most phones, but they have 48MP modes by making use of the quad pixel array, but the best part when using "just" 12 MP... dynamic range. They have typically one small and one bigger pixel for each color, by reading out those 2 pixel independently, you can achieve more DR than a professional movie camera can. By binning the 2x2 Quad Pixel Matrix to a single pixel, you have more or less also the "big pixels" you want as well. I was also very sceptical about this type of arrays, but since its a big/small pixel for enhancing DR nowadays and the "high resolution" modes work pretty well, i think the times where we just want huge pixels is gone. I would assume in the next years we will see this (smartphone typical) technology also in cameras, they sadly have distinct advfeantages over "classic" bayer arrays.

Larger pixels don‘t get better dynamic range. While being able to capture more photons before burning out they‘re also larger, so they‘ll capture more photons for the same brightness. You need a larger sensor to get better dynamic range. if your angle of view is still the same you‘ll have the same total light distributed across a larger area, so it‘ll burn out slower no matter the pixel size.
