Owner of a 2023 Subaru BRZ Limited Edition here. I can 100% confirm that this method does work on my vehicle. Wow, this is so very ridiculous that it never came turned ON from the factory, nor did the dealership turned it on as well. They probably didn’t even know about this. Thanks a million for this find! Kevin: Thank you so much for this video. This isn't something I would not have noticed in the owner's manual and figured this would be part of the delivery checklist at the dealership. I have a 23' BRZ Limited and because of your video I now have a working alarm system on my car. My wife has a 23' Outback, and it was the same thing with her car as well. This method works for both Subaru's that we own. Almost 18 months without a fully functional alarm system.

Thank you so much Kevin! Tested it and it in fact was not armed. Also quicks tips here guys, 1) to get this done right, when you double tap for ignition, you have to hold the unlock button and open the door before you hear the click of the ignition (this should get the timing right), and 2) To stop the alarm, lock then unlock your car with your keys, this should turn it off!

2024 BRZ TS here. I tried and failed to make this work a dozen times. Then I did it extremely quickly, like press the unlock button within a second of double pressing the start button. It finally worked. Thanks

UNTIL, 1.) did the "hold unlock" procedure SUPER QUICKLY after setting the ignition to ON. . . 2.) then I couldn't get the alarm to go off UNTIL I waited about 3 minutes for it to arm. .. .then BOOM, success :) Thanks again, Kevin! . . .keep the awesome content flowin'!

One note, you can't do this with the remote buttons, you have to use the open & lock buttons on the driver's side door. Mine was off from the dealership also. Thanks for this most important top!

Rubber plugs that go in the frame mine were in the glove box there out for shipping tie down I assume

When the cars are shipped, there are two holes underneath the car that a utilized to tie down the car. The dealer is supposed to install rubber plugs into those holes when the car comes in. They can usually be found in the glove box or trunk.

The alarm is covered on page 80 of the US manual which confirms that 'The alarm’s default setting is set to off' so I don't think dealers are meant to activate it.

Yup I work at a subie dealership and we just check to make sure it works during the PDI but dont set it to "on" not sure why though

Hmmm... I'm pretty sure Subaru has always set the alarm to arm after pressing the lock button three times. I've always locked my car without setting the alarm by pressing once. Sometimes I just don't need the alarm set. But if I'm so inclined, I press thrice. I've had/have eight Subies and pretty much all of them have been set this way for almost 20 years now. However, I do appreciate your video because if someone really doesn't want to press the lock button on their fob thrice, this is a good tutorial. Thanks, bro!

Kevin, you forgot to mention that a message comes up on the dash to let you know where you turned the alarm on/off so there's no need to test the door. Just toggle the alarm to see the status.

I think you could just press the lock button twice maybe thrice on your key to enable Alarm but i never tried opening the door without my key so i dont actually know if that was the alrm or not

I've been eyeing some Apex SM-10RS wheels and don't know if they would fit. For some more info I would be using a track alignment and have some negative camber with same suspension components only from SPL instead of Cusco. Thanks man

Couldn’t turn it on and then when I go in touch with my dealership he said the GR86 “does not” have an alarm system which really left me speechless considering many people have activated the alarm this way but doesn’t work for me. I bought a brand new 2023 GR86 from a Toyota dealership in West Virginia and drove it to my home in Florida. I tried to set the alarm using this procedure but it did not work. I took the car to the local Toyota dealership and was told that these cars do not come with alarms. I showed them a copy of my build sheet where the alarm system is shown. They said Toyota has not made a car with an alarm in years! What should I do next??

Great Video but it made me paranoid too. When ever the car is out of my hands, like a tail light recall, I now wonder is someone could have turned my alarm off. The blinking dash light used to be my feel good everything is set thing to look for. Other than going back through this setup, or setting off the alarm, is there a less annoying way to know it is set to on, say on a daily basis? Thanks. P.S. Just ordered the F1 flashing light module, I had it on my radar for your backorder and I got rear ended last weekend. I think we might also need bicycle flags, because it was a jacked up Jeep Wrangler that was stopped at a light behind too close, I rolled forward a littler for comfort and they rolled forward and hit me. It hit above the bumper bar behind the cover too. Someone needs to make an F1 style brake light that replaces the antenna cover on the roof ( business idea! ).
