Excellent talk. As a retired police I’ve seen few criminals rehabilitate themselves, let alone take responsibility for their offenses, no matter the severity of same. Yes, his crime was horrific, but do we hold someone in jail forever when they’ve truly reformed and now become a productive member of society? I guess everyone has to look into their heart and determine how they feel about such an important question. I say the good he’s done will never bring that victim back, but it may prevent others from walking the path he once strode.

I can forgive my ex after all ig. Unexpected closure.
I was a 2nd Class PO in the Navy, lost it all due to a DUI and failing to comply with their 0tolerance Alcohol program during COVID. Worst mistake in my life, I loved the military. All good though, this man is right. time to move on! Fair winds and following seas, time to reskill and move forward!

“Your own value system regardless of how you were raised.” is a strong sentence. “Each of us is greater than the worst thing we’ve ever done.” I just wish people would get back to aspiring for something better in life. Having someone in your life see that ‘greatness’ in you can make such a difference. Thank you for this great TT❤

Thank you for having the courage to speak, and I’m so glad that you finally feel at peace now. This is a very impactful message for me. I don’t know what my biggest mistake in life has been… I have several. But I have been guided to step into a leadership role, and I know that people will judge me for choices I have made (such as not working for long stretches of time) that at the same time were not really choices (because of severe mental illness in the form of C-PTSD) and yet also were (because at some level of will I chose to give into fear and turtle up rather than push myself to meet challenges in the world again.) Life is so complicated. Every moment we face conditions outside of our control as well as the opportunity to choose how we will face them.

They as well can make peace with that and not to torture themselves with that their entire lives. I am a victim of a crime so I should know very well. As long as a held a hatred and did not make my peace with what has happened, I was consumed by that. Only by accepting what has happened, I could again be free without nightmares. Yes, PTSD stays, but its severity is extremely mild and generaly does no longer interferes with my life.
@kevinp51192 ай бұрын
@Malejda77 my point is that our society does not punish these individuals long enough. He took a life, possibly several lives. He sat for a decade or maybe two in prison and now can get on with his life. He can now get hired by a big corporation or a fancy school and live a comfortable life. Meanwhile, there is a family that lost a son. The punishment does not fit the crime, in my opinion.

Hold on surely this doesn’t apply to everyone? I understand the message but surely some people you can’t forgive for what they’ve done.
@insomniapetals44242 ай бұрын
In my experience, forgiveness is for the forgivER not the forgivEN. Finding a place inside yourself to heal the hate and the anger inside yourself so that you CAN move forward is huge, for you. That other person doesn't know or care (for the most part) whether or not you forgive them. For me, it was more about forgiving myself for putting myself in a bad marriage and then staying long after he first put his hands on me. I can't say I've forgiven him completely. But I'm pretty close to forgiving myself completely.

Everyone deserve forgiveness. Not forgetfulness but forgiveness
@crippledbrainwave2 ай бұрын
@@insomniapetals4424 so what if you’re not the forgivER?, such as the person who put their hands on you. How do you forgive yourself for something like that? Without continuing to believe you’re a bad person e.t.c there’s no changing your past that’s on your hands now so how are you supposed to just accept and forgive yourself? I understand you chose to stay in a bad marriage and maybe it is partly your fault for not leaving, but them putting hands on you wasn’t your fault So why do you have to try to forgive yourself if you aren’t the bad person in this situation? Also I’m just genuinely curious not heated it’s more a discussion (you just can’t tell over text)
@crippledbrainwave2 ай бұрын
@@josiahamazeeveryone?, even the “people” who traffic and drug and r**e? E.t.c. Again not heated just genuinely curious what your take on that is? Because surely there’s a limit to what you would forgive someone for? Surely some people don’t deserve forgiveness depending on what they have done? (Also I know this might be a bit extreme but I just can’t wrap my head around that)
@insomniapetals44242 ай бұрын
@@crippledbrainwave It seems to be a DV survivor thing, trying to find ways to blame yourself. I know it was not my fault, now. But I wasted a good amount of years destroying myself even more thoroughly than he did. Here's how I've found a way to distance myself from that hatred. My ex was a malignant narcissist. I know that narcissists aren't born, they are made. That means his parents didn't do what parents are supposed to do, which was make him feel loved and safe. Then he joined the military and did entirely too many tours (for which he volunteered) in Iraq and Afghanistan. So, we put War trauma on top of childhood traumas and we have an abuser waiting to happen. I cannot forgive him for what he did to me, but I can empathize with what his trauma did to him. From a distance.

Confidence is something within you and shouldn't come from outside validation. Confusion can come from anyone, your own understanding or anything outside of yourself. Just because something has you confused shouldn't mess with your inner core. The thing is, a lot of ppl are not confident. They lack understanding, and if you young, you may need to live life to put your trust in yourself to handle everything. We also think it has something to do with appearance or silly things. It's merely trusting yourself to handle things as they come, even confusion.
