Hope you are all as excited as I am for the Gladiators revival in January! Thought this would be a fun video to do to close out the year. Hoping 2024 is going to be a good year for the channel - lots of things in the pipeline - it's going to be a busy year for me! It would be amazing if you could subscribe to the channel and give it a little thumbs up. Let's try to get to 500 by the end of the year :) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone. See you in 2024! 😁

I’m glad they’ve used the aesthetic’s of the original arena from the classic run, (the Birmingham stadium layout). Looking forward to the Gladiators reboot since it was one first shows I started watching during the early till late 90s, when it’s airing I’m hoping that’ll encourage other broadcasters to start making big entertainment programmes just like it. Personally I wish that Robot Wars was still on, having both 90s programmes back on at the same time would make television today a bit more appealing than it is. Great work on the content.

It was all about watching TV as a family on a Saturday night when Gladiators ran originally, I think times have changed too much for it to be a huge success. Saying that, I'd love it to be a big hit as I have really fornd memories of TV from the era, going into school talking with mates about what had went on in our favourite shows etc. I haven't a clue what kids talk about these days, video games and Jake Paul? I can’t wait to see Gladiators BACK on Saturday night television at the new arena home in Sheffield Arena in the new channel home on BBC One in January 2024 for the first time in 24 years in terrestrial television since the last ever episode of the original series on Gladiators came to an end in the old channel home on ITV on the 1st January 2000 filmed at the old arena home in National Indoor Arena, Birmingham (now Utilita Arena Birmingham since the 15th April 2020 in the present). Gladiators in the reboot series on BBC One will always look good as the original series on ITV and better than the failed reboot series on Sky.

I managed to see The Edge in action, if anyone wants to know... . . . . A platform of mesh-shaped walkways is lifted above the arena with a safety net below, the contender has to cross as many times as possible (like classic Hit + Run) while trying not to fall through the holes in the walkway, while the gladiator is trying to make them fall (and avoid falling themselves!)

Have to admit I'm not as hyped for this incarnation of Gladiators as I was for the late 00s incarnation. It may not have lasted very long but I did find it a lot of fun, particularly the "Legends special" which put the 90s Glads in the contender role against the 00s Glads. They certainly won't be able to repeat that trick this time around! Have to say that after the 00s series fizzled out, I was surprised anyone, particularly the BBC thought that the show would be worth bringing back in the 2020s. Still, it's coming and as long as it doesn't clash with anything else, I'll give it a look see.

Main problem with the Sky reboot was deciding to make it inside a tiny studio! You need a large arena. It felt too small. Ian Wright and Kirsty Gallacher were great choices for presenter tho - not sure Bradley Walsh and his son (?!) will be as good. The new BBC one seems to be a direct continuation of the 90s one in tone and look. I’m looking forward to it.

i think the problem with the 2008 revival was that it felt tiny, it felt like it was in a studio with an audience of a few hundred - it was the first thing i noticed at the time and a big part of why i just wasn't grabbed by it. The new one is definitely a bit smaller than the original if you look for it, but it does a much better job of hiding it. I wonder if they might move back to a bigger arena if this one's a hit
@MonsieurMcGregor9 ай бұрын
Another good, detailed guide 👍 The Pyramid was my favourite game from the original also. I liked the idea of Joust, but it almost always seemed to end in a draw and became a bit predictable. The Atlaspheres game derived from the original American Gladiators which used a far smaller arena than both Birmingham's and Sheffield's, so it's possible for the game to return but I agree, like you say, not probable. I'm interested to see how it does. I think the first remake went too crazy with the production: the constant flashing lights, the odd camera angles etc. The original had some 'flashiness' but focussed on the games and didn't try to artificially add to the action. But, ultimately, I know this isn't made for me and my personal nostalgia so I'll try to keep an open mind. 👍

I've not seen anything online about any of the classic Gladiators returning. Sure many of them are well past their prime however I know Wolf, AKA Michael Van, was saying he wanted to come back in some capacity and claimed that due to his greater dedication to training and personal fitness since he left the show, he was actually in better shape and physically stronger than he was 30-years ago and looking at the absolute rock solid muscle he was supporting in the video footage I saw last year I think he might be telling the truth. Do I think he and any others should be a regular Gladiators? No, unfortunately it would be somewhat awkward and would ruin the idea of the Gladiators as being supreme athletes in their prime. That said, a way to include him and any other classic Gladiators who wanted to come back would be to save them for a special appearance at the Grand Final where if they would go up against the contestants in a single event, one they has exclusively been training and preparing for. Another option would be if the show was popular enough to launch 2 spin off shows, one for kids under 12, where some of the gladiators would need to be occasionally replaced when they age out. And a second show for 60+ giving a great opportunity for the older members of the public to compete in and allow some of the classic gladiators to come back along with finding new older ones. But those are just my thoughts for the future.
