Well said as always. I started cycling again, just pre Covid. I’ve shed 16kg, now at 60kg and VO2 Max through training currently up to 50. I’m 68 soon and still motivated to keep building my fitness. Don’t think you’ve left it too late. Just go for it.

Great video, very well described. Nobody wants to hear the truth, but you have to be honest with yourself. Once you get your head in the right place, everything becomes easier. You will fail at some stuff, but that's better than not trying. You'll also learn from failure, you'll not improve without trying. Problem is we live in a time where we want instant results, which is impossible...

The 4th “F” is fibrillation, as in atrial fibrillation. If you’re an endurance athlete, you have an elevated chance of AF. I had AF during the 2018 Tour Aotearoa, the 3,000 km ride the length of New Zealand. Just saying, based on personal experience.

Do NOT for one second think cycling makes you heart attack safe! 53, been riding and racing since a teen and had 3 heart attacks past 10 years until figuring it out. My V02 level is probably why I never died but ultimately it came down to taking and staying on my bp and cholesterol meds. Take your meds. Btw, I like your Oltre, I have the RC.

Not every medical issue is due to inactivity. I was a regular on my bike and it actually highlighted an issue for me in as much as I all of a sudden could barely ride up hill. What I thought was a respiratory issue was in fact heart related and heart attack is not the only issue you can have. Got that sorted and got hit by one of the big issues in metabolic syndrome. Two and a half years of gout. But guess what, lemons to lemonade, you should see how fit you get doing 1.5k on crutches. Let your exercise tell you about your body and listen.

I know about 6 very fit cyclists, two dropped dead out riding, and an acquaintance that had ohs to repair his mitrial valve. I just got out of my ohs for new Aeortic valve and a graft. I have to agree that cycling can sometimes bring the problems to the surface.

I was running but not often enough and over last few years I goit worse at it, my vo2 max wasn't good and my fitness age was 10 years older than my real age, so I upped my game a little, run 2 or 3 times a week depending on if I cycle or not and my vo2 maz went up 15% (so far) and my fitness age dropped by 20 years, but not, I have that habit, and more focus, I'm not stopping,

@thetriumphsprint I've lost over 10% bodyfat after one ride before. I've had very different readings for bodyfat morning to morning while being roughly the same weight in consecutive days. I'd trust one of those wind measuring power meters over one of these scales. *I've never owned one of these things. They were always my parents or a roommates scale so I've had regular use of multiple types. All have been laughably bad and not consistent. Kinda reminds me of my Whoop I got rid of. That may actually be worse than these scales.
