What a time to be alive. I mean that seriously. There have been so many influential and insightful speakers talking about this stuff over the years, but never in the era of the Internet, and certainly never making their multitude of talks available for the entire planet to listen to. MS articulates these concepts better than anyone I've heard, and he makes his content available for everyone. What a time to be alive, I tell you.

I have listened to 3 times over the last 2 days. Each time I get something a little different or little deeper. So much fear and stress is about things that never happened or never will happen. We literally torture ourselves inside. I have decided to relax and be my own best friend instead of my own worst enemy.

How do you deal with fear of not thinking about could go wrong leaves you open to missing the danger ahead and planning for that
@DrTomHanson Жыл бұрын
I’d say the more present we are the greater our awareness of what’s going on and thus will sense danger better. So I hear what he is saying as a way to be safer, not naive. I’ve been told they would often put a woman in the front seat of a vehicle in Iraq because women could sense what is going on better than men. Women were better at sensing something is wrong (e.g. a bomb might be on the road ahead ).

I do get it! Im doing it to myself. Ive seen, in my relationship with my mother, how i can literally feel like im running from a tiger ... when what she has done or said is fairly innocuous to a grown woman lol!! But then i saw the trauma that was being reenacted by her words .... when i saw this, i could then relax at a whole new level. So yes ... coming from the past which was a trauma at 4 yrs old and cemented a pattern that can be triggered at any apparently random moment in my unconsciousness. But not anymore! Ive got it. Thank you. Freedom. Another step to freedom in being with people ;-))))

22:00 I suppose I'm lucky. I lived a fearless life to a point. Then I decided I was so fearless that i could save others, as if I'm the second coming Himself. That was where I went wrong right there. Others don't affect me. They cannot hurt me. Only I can hurt me. There is nothing to change outside myself. Internal comfort is a choice. No others are responsible for any part of my life.

I realize from this that my daily meditation has put me in a place of peace and relaxation wherever I am. I love to be in a supermarket fully relaxed, enjoying the moment(s) really “seeing” my fellow humans passing by or interacting without anxiety, fear or rumination. Meditation has raised my level of enjoyment. . I know I pass on the fun of life to others because we acknowledge and smile at and with each other. Fear seems to be absent until it does..and I handle it much better now. I used to have internal anxiety and fear all the time. So it’s very nice to relax. One way I handle it is to write poetry about it. That pulls the “disturbance” out of me; it puts it in its place.

Michael, you've provided such an effective way for me to reframe and process challenging inner energy. I'm so grateful every time I hear you talk about the universe swirling around us. Remembering the bigger picture helps me release my narrow focus on inner discomfort. I like being reminded that the universe is perfect exactly as it is and that nothing happening to me is personal. It helps me relax. Deep relaxation is key, as you say. My muscles contract subconsciously in response to who knows what? Often I'm not sure why, while other times I know exactly why. I've found that regularly listening to your talks keep me ready to respond to challenging energies as they come up. I take moments throughout my day to take relaxation breaths (slow deep inhale, longer complete exhale) and relax any clenched body parts. Relaxing and neutrally witnessing the inner energy flowing up and out is my go-to practice. I take time for it, morning and evening and as needed.

19:37 extremes, lion attacking you. Very rare. Almost every other moment we are not in any danger despite what the mind may have you believe.
@gummisnoodable Жыл бұрын
21:31 moments earlier it may have sounded like 97% of an average person's time may be experiencing fear but here he clarifies that we are talking about disturbances of all kinds, that we are experiencing a high percentage of the time. When we are not fully present, we are being disturbed by something. The disturbance is distracting us from being fully present.
@gummisnoodable Жыл бұрын
26:04 key point in this section. He describes it elsewhere as "The moment in front of you is not bothering you, You are bothering yourself about the moment in front of you."
@gummisnoodable Жыл бұрын
29:26 new way to see "bothering yourself about..." You are projecting your discomfort on your life. That discomfort is like seeing the world through (poo) colored glasses.
@gummisnoodable Жыл бұрын
32:27 another way to see "bothering yourself about." And shortly after: "At some point you will become conscious enough that it will blow your mind." With this perspective, what used to be little annoyances, can be seen as interesting, can be seen as extra flavor of life.

Unfortunately recent tragedies may make us have to reassess the notion that it is so rare we are exposed to extreme dangers . And since those recent realties have hit -its harder to agree that 98.9% of us have no real reason to be disturbed.
@blendedstrength5 ай бұрын
I was kind of thinking the same thing. I’m glad I’m not the only one. For the most part, I can relax into & with any situation, but when tragedy & trauma hits & you are forced to face it everyday while dealing with loved ones who are struggling with it, it’s just not that simple. I can relax & feel calm & appreciate all that is happening in a moment at any given time, but it really doesn’t last when all of those around you that you are living with are suffering & angry & won’t let you see a brightside or have any peace. Any advice on that? What am I missing? I just want the peace & the only time I have it is when I’m alone, or at work or out in public away from my tortured & suffering loved ones.

It is complicated and hard!! If the people you love are being abusive to you. When we are children and there is no escape we HAVE TO disassociate and make ourselves believe lies in order to ease anxiety, fear and survive. We also need to find shelter, food and do jobs we hate to pay for it. If you are NOT happy and trapped you do everything you can to escape and NOT EXPERIENCE present moment.
