Sure, send me the money and I'll use whatever router you want :) Now seriously, my ISP router works perfectly fine and it never gave me reasons to buy another one. You must ask to yourself "do I really need another one? Is it worth the investment?".

@@gcmanuel85x agree, i was talking about lan cable from your ISP modem/router/etc to your pc - not to add more devices, i.e. add more ping - every added device adds at least 1ms ping latency

A couple of months ago, I was helping a friend change some settings in his ISP supplied router. Unfortunately, he didn't have the user name or password to log in. We had to call the cable company. As it turned out his router's user name was "admin" and his password was "password". Lovely. Probably the same as a few million other customers of that ISP. So, if you live in Canada and Rogers / Shaw is your ISP, I'd suggest logging to your router and and changing those log in details. That's assuming they aren't hard coded in.
@user-od4gs3iu4t
@user-od4gs3iu4t Ай бұрын
it's actually not that big deal, cause in order to log in to your router, you need to be connected to the local network. That means with a LAN cable, or with WiFi. WiFi on the other hand SHOULD be protected with long and nontrivial password

And for those of us, who are not in the gimme-gimme business but rather in the lemme-lemme business; i.e. running servers of different sorts: 1. Can it do port-forwarding? 2. Can it optimize for upload speed? 3. Can it do IPv6?

Sorry, Brian; all your review brings to mind is the phrase "Damned by faint praise". If your ISP is dumping an "old" router on you, any "new" router is going to better it. I don't want to pay £225 (or £180 with the introductory price) for a "decent" router.

In Germany Fritz!Box made by AVM is the real thing. It is not for gamers thou. I use the quite old Fritz!Box 7490, most people have switched to 7590 and for the fiber connection they have 5590 Fiber.

You use your isp router as a modem only (most isp routers have the ability to be turned into modem only mode...do a KZbin search for your isp router to turn it into modem) and use this or another make as the router. Eg I'm with virgin media and I turned my isp router into modem mode and plugged in a TPlink router and everything is plugged into the TPlink
@user-od4gs3iu4t

I recently saw your video on port master. Can this router perform those port master functions for everything on my network?
@user-od4gs3iu4t
@user-od4gs3iu4t Ай бұрын
Portmaster configures your firewall on an application level. Router firewall is based on some general rules + solicited network traffic, it cannot know what applications you run on your home PC, it cannot ask that, and it cannot get a good decision of what to do. So your PC software firewall, like Portmaster, is a good and valuable ADDITION to your router firewall

Those ''RGB makes it faster and is better '' Routers are a joke. -You get at most max 2 years of updates if any -Is for sure more insecure as a well known brand -Probably is spying the users and send logs to who knows -Cheaply made and unreliable for a product that needs to be powered on 24/7 If it is sponsored or a free router provided then you should tell you're viewers.

@@Britec09 Router quality aside, how does Virgin compare with regular full fibre? I have fibre to the cabinet at the moment, but I have both types of full fibre as an option. The council re-laid the pavement and street, then Openreach came and dug it up for full fibre, then Virgin came and dug it up again to lay their stuff!
