The thing is that government websites have already been doing it, where is the talk about that? You have probably given your info to the DMV online if you did anything like that, where was the outrage? All these new medical apps like betterhelp and others? How many people have entered their personal information on those??? And the outrage only comes when their adult content is under attack. For context, i am against using id for this but i wonder where was the outrage BEFORE they went to the hub?
@jacobp.2024
@jacobp.2024 6 күн бұрын
@@breannathompson9094 No? I've been outraged perpetually since I became self-aware, and understood the implications of the PATRIOT act and much of the legislation passed before my time. Though, I will admit, there is a special outrage reserved for when I see the government continuously neglect or, better, cast a blind eye to real social issues, while throwing resources at tightening government controls. Because they are responsibly using the resources already provided, they just need more! Clearly. It has worked so well these past few decades. A veritable golden age. I don't know if you've noticed, but people have been dissenting for quite a while about the ID checks and requirements online. Maybe you have ignored it, or not been in those spaces. Remember Snowdin? Assange? Any names ring the bell? Data privacy? EULA controversies? NSA facilities for monitoring Americans? Or, maybe you misconstrue the lack of agency we have in our own government with a lack of outrage, and that's fine if you did. The people in positions of authority are sociopaths with a clear goal in mind, who tactfully use the government's gridlock, binary choices, and situational lack of oversight to cushion themselves from public opinion. They are results-driven, and they cannot be reasoned with. Don't even bother trying. Unfortunately, the government does what the government very well pleases, your voice is worthless honestly. So is mine. The only thing that has real value these days has a caliber.

@@breannathompson9094 Assange? Snowdin? NSA facilities? Data privacy? EULA controversies? None of that ring a bell? We've been shouting into the void since the beginning. One of my friends constantly uses the website called "true people search", they kept pestering why I wasn't searchable but I got listed during the month I went to the DMV and/or I went for a checkup/ used a medical app. Now you can search up where I live if you knew my name. They are jokingly threatening to Diddy me now. A really good counterargument I've seen is what if people in abusive relationships try to get away but they are constantly trackable? Huh?? That may be somewhat true, but wtf does that have to do with giving away more freedom under the guise of "government safety"? Your argument doesnt really help prove why its not necessary, like at all. If anything, those things are happening BECAUSE kids spend too much time online. They arent interested in sex, drugs, or anything else because theyre all too addicted to their devices. Its literally swapping 1 problem for another. Gen Alpha is chronically online and dont know how to have meaningful relationships. At least when I was experimenting with drugs, I was having a great time, being social, making new friends, getting out of the house & going to parties 😂 you know, REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES. Also helped cultivate street smarts 🤷🏻‍♀️ so I mean, it wasnt all bad lmao But regardless, the ONLY argument here is that governments are not responsible for raising kids - parents are. As someone who thinks this law is silly, mass majority of kids that this bill is aimed it won't bypass with a VPN. Most parents don't have one and most kids don't have a card that they can just use or borrow from parents that easily. I still believe this is clearly bad law. You can't work until 16ish and make your own money, which will keep most from even being able to get a VPN secretly. This bill seems to be mostly targeted at 13 and below, but with the use of the word minor, it could be targeting anywhere from 18-21 depending on state. I'm a lot more worried about the privacy concerns of it and getting people used to just handing over their privacy on a whim.

Websites don't need to take care of children, their parents need to. Like, there already is tools like parental controls in websites, browsers (and extensions), and even apps for phones with which you can limit app usage, screen time and more. It's not that hard to set up parental controls for your kid to be as safe as possible online. That, and teaching your kids basic online safety should be the only thing needed for them to be safe on the internet. Seeing these kinds of laws that, while they have a seemingly good intent, have so much potential for misuse with the wrong people makes me scared of what else could be done with the safety of kids as an excuse for even more privacy-invading laws.

They don't care, the politicians would rather turn the country into a facist police state then give a shit about what you or I, to any of their constitutes wants they'll write bills that are on the cover 'for the people' because people don't read past the headlines nowadays.This bill like many that we will see in the coming years will be about controlling political power, who does what and when, etc. All while they tell the masses that they live in a free country, and the dumbass and brainwashed will believe them, all while they arrest dissent, and take control away from the people and solidify their power. This bill is just a stepping stone, and even if it fails they will try and try again because they only needed a bill like this to pass once, before they use it as justification for other bills.
