Some get eaten yeah, others are trained to pull sleighs or skiers for racing. Reindeer are really chill outside of the rut season; while they don't usually seek human contact, they're not afraid of people either. It's fascinating how Siberian peoples whose entire lifestyle is based on them cooperate with them because reindeer don't believe in hierarchies or pleasing humans like horses do.

@@microska2656 for polar bears especially its pretty common. to sometimes go multiple months without eating, they only have like a 2% success rate in hunts and dont even have the chance to attempt very often. and for brown bears, they need to bulk up to be able to last the winter or else they need to forgo hibernating. For a bear being fat means youre one of the lucky ones, most "skinny" looking polar bears in nature docs are starved and desperate, which is closer to the default state of life for them

You should do one on a plant, like a coconut tree (may travel across the world) or those little white flowers that pop up in the snow just before spring in Europe, back in Germany we called them schneeglöckchen i think (little snow bells).

If you get caught by humans while having brainworm parasites, you actually got kinda lucky, because 1. Your end will be quick 2. Hunters usually avoid overly-friendly deer, because these parasites are dangerous for humans too

I read somewhere that that Santas reindeers are most likely not female but are geldings. Geldings keep their antlers longer then stags and are the ones that are used mostly for dragging and racing sleighs. I think the site was Finnish and it was very interesting to read. Just thought it was an interesting fact even though I kinda ruined the joke a bit 😅

Fun fact. Legally. Reindeer in Sweden are considered domesticated and as pets. If you hunt one of them, it is considered the same as you hunted a cat, dog, horse, cow or anything else that is domesticated.

Ahkchually, domestic cats' kittens also change eye color. They're usually blue the first month or so and then they turn into the color they'll be on for the rest of their lives. For some tho, this doesn't change so you get those pretty white kitties with blue eyes.
