I am a fighter, but i dont go and look at someones opinion on some topic like politics and just because they have an idea that has cons that are not an issue with my idea i call them an asshole or idiot, i don't do that. All opinions are valid to me until you directly deny facts and logic, i don't like people like that. I enjoy watching someone wiggle under the boot of science, desperately trying to prove their claim, and i find it hilarious when they just start ignoring what i say because it just means i won and their minds just cannot process the truth. Of course when they bring up a valid argument or some point of logic that makes total sence to be confused about, i will answer it properly, and try to respect the person more. but crushing the karens, well Its a stupid satisfaction, and some might consider it kind of pointless or even childish, but i find it a fun pastime. ever since i stopped using social media i've become a much calmer and relaxed person, far less stressed out than before. i'm nonbinary, a lesbian, and disabled, so my identity is a whole political statement that i need to deal with online. its justified that my lgbt community is always in the middle of a political debate, since there needs to be a dicussion about us so that we can become more normal someday. its important, but being in the center of that is so toxic and once i got out and spent time with my friends, my family, people who DIDNT constantly make me feel like an alien, i got better. being online made me feel like i was wrong, even when my community was giving me love. seeing all the posts about this and that, political debates arguing for/against people like me, man. it got exhausting. i was tired of feeling so... contested? i guess? but my girlfriend loves me, my dad loves me, my friends love me, my grandma loves me. nothing else matters in my immediate circle, and i need to take care of myself first if i want to have any hope of helping other people around me. i find it more productive to avoid obsessing over news on social media or whatever and just be like that instead. the sad part was i never started using social media for politics, i just wanted to see cool art and funny memes. the politics just leaked in. you can't avoid it.

I think there are two problems working together: First one is simple - a want to relax and do something unproductive, simply because your brain is tired of doing work. If you constantly check social media at work, it's probably because you're either bored, or tired and you need a way to "underclock" your brain. The Second is more complex - "Somebody is wrong in the Internet!", opinion-based discussions and controversies. While participating in those might be fruitful for your worldview and your arguing skills if done right, often it doesn't worth it. For example, you might get the understanding of why people go vegan or vote for this person or that person, but neither of you will convince each other to "change their camp". I believe one can find a way to engage with social media in a way, that doesn't devolve to consuming controversies: my social media space consists mostly of Minecraft and general gaming news. I consume a small share of controversy information, but only on topics which have a measurable impact on my life. Unfortunately, that includes politics, because it _does_ affect everyone's life, but there's always an option to be a silent observer, and not engage in the opinion war.

The biggest problem in my opinion is all social media platforms have a sort of like feature, which causes people to try and get as many likes as possible, which causes posts that really aren't meant to start real conversation. An ideal platform would be one that ranks posts by their comment count rather than like count in my opinion. edit: that build is neat... o.o

We were made to interact with a small and closed group of people in which we knew a lot more of the information they had, and suddenly we can interact with people from all around the world which do help us to inform ourselves and to change our point of view for the better, but also to try and change someones else's point of view and opinions because of it. Detoxing from social media can be a really hard thing but I think everyone should do it once in a while, I think none has the ability to take in so much information and absorb it and live as if it didn´t matter and we end up worrying about stuff we can't even change.

I somewhat agree with your opinion about social media. Social media is somewhat a bane for society because we look at people who have a better life (envy and depression), a cesspool of like-minded opinions, too much anonymity (not arguing against it, but it can and will lead to bad behaviors), and other similar stuff. Yet, social media has some good in it like befriending new people, finding old friends, building a community (except for gatekeeping and other such behavior), and other such things. I will say the worse thing about social media currently is cancel culture because so many lives get ruined by people who should not be involved or should have minded their own business (of course it is a double edge sword and a slippery slope). Thank you for reading my comment.

Life is better if you regularly objectively assess yourself and your behaviour. Heck, that's probably what would lead to world peace if everyone were doing it. Consequently, I stopped having Twitter (the only social media I use) open all day in my browser or the app set to deliver notifications. It's now in a folder called "daily" that I open during breakfast and after I'm done with it don't look at until the next day's breakfast. I wish that more people would be similarly self-reflecting, like X describes. I have the same with news. I used to look at a news website every so often during the day. But it was bad doubly, because I used it to procrastinate which isn't good, and it didn't make me feel much better, as news are generally negative and make you worry. This documentary sounds very interesting. But sometime I just wish people would self-reflect a bit more. Then it wouldn't even need an eye-opening documentary for people to stop unhelpful/addictive social media use. Or everything else.

I think one problem is that a person will have a really fun or enjoyable experience on a website, like KZbin for example. Then they watch a lot of videos, videos that might not interest them if they had not had that experience, in the hopes that the one of them will be just as fun or enjoyable. So, when this is the case, the engagement is owed to wishful thinking rather than the current video being watched. It's hard to find evidence of this, but I've noticed it in myself.

Twitter will probably be the absolute fastest way to see new tweets, but perhaps think about using an RSS reader for certain things. An RSS reader can read any RSS feed (some readers have extra functionality like Twitter support). This lets you keep up to date with news and stuff, without using distracting, toxic social media. (RSS is an open standard, so you can read RSS feeds in any reader you like!) Most news websites have active RSS feeds. For Twitter accounts, and websites that don't have RSS feeds, you may be able to use an RSS feed generator or a website called "rsshub" to get around that. I'm not sure if I can share links here, but there's already an RSS feed for the Minecraft website content. Maybe this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I think you might find it useful for certain things. Feedly is a very good RSS reader, by the way. Or, you could just use TweetDeck, with everything removed except one or two Twitter lists. For keeping up with Minecraft news, this might just be the best way to go. No notifications, no likes, no trends - just Minecraft tweets (and retweets?) from the certain people you want to see! And, you can always pop into the full Twitter experience every once in a while.

Young people like me are much more aware of what sort of misinformation can be spread due to experience.
