Unfortunately, homeless people are already frozen out of society. That’s a whole different problem we absolutely need to address
@ChillstoneBlakeBlast4 жыл бұрын
One must ask "Why is there homeless" and not "What can we do for the homeless". A homeless person has high amount of disconnections from society for him to remain homeless. Homeless people are generally unhappy and they probably do not know how to settle down in order to find a room to rent, afford food and basics nessecities and to have a job to be able to fund all of this. Maybe they do know how but just realize ends do not meet, hence they start assuming a person of power (typically the government) should intervene and try to help them out. The problem is that the government is going to need some funding to resolve these issues, which will create of feedback loop of goods and services to cost more, more people homeless and more people demanding help to stop being homeless. As cruel as it is to say, the way that I see it is that a homeless person remains homeless out of their pure volition. I have had friends that lived on the streets with no place to call home only just recently live in a much better situation than what I am currently living.

If I see more unreasonable arguments I might edit this comment to include those "Masks don't protect yourself" Correct! They protect everybody else though, so if everybody else is ALSO wearing a mask you will be safe. This is why you should wear one, to protect others, and as a side effect yourself. "Some people have conditions that don't let them wear masks" Correct! However, if you can't breathe through a mask you are probably extra vulnerable to covid, so you shouldn't be going outside anyways.
@chiefdvm16714 жыл бұрын
Yeah the mask's main purpose is to protect others. But that's the point, if you haven't been tested for covid you will not know if you have it or not. There are many cases where the patient is absolutely fine and is still tested positive for it. So, if you think that you are perfectly healthy and you are not needed to wear a mask, that is not correct. You will not even know who you are trasmitting the virus to.

The difference is, things like sensory problems will be recognised. From the start of lockdown, there were alternative regulations for people with, for example, autism. At the start of all this when you couldn't drive to go somewhere unless it was absolutely necessary, those with autism could drive somewhere as long as the journey wasn't longer than the walk or similar. The more difficult problem is about the people with a trauma or other personal issues. You can't always put people into a metaphorical box through a diagnosis, especially not in that case, and as a result not everyone who 'can't wear a mask' can be identified by a diagnosis or a doctor's note. Edit: as someone with autism myself, there are many masks I could never wear but we've found some that work for me. Encourage them to keep trying out new masks whenever they can, and especially encourage them to stay inside if they really can't wear one.

@@PrinceKaladin A seatbelt is much more different than a mask though. A seatbelt is extremely understandable, as you are inside the car while it is being driven with no possible way to get out safely until it stops. The seatbelt has very minor effect psychologically, as it is just a strap that keeps you in your seat if something dangerous hits the car. Meanwhile the mask is something that covers a person's face, A very important part for person-to-person communication. Cases of psychological torment have skyrocketed, with proof from various suicide hotlines spiking in numbers, the mayority of people generally unhappy and other negative behavior such as riots ongoing. People may be blaming these to lockdowns, but the mask may be at fault too. 6:15 the way the masks work is actually quite interesting. Yes the virus is quite a bit smaller than the holes in the mask, but it still filters it. The mask does this by having electro staticky charged "wires" (made from plastic thats why the quotes), that can attract small particles. This is why you shouldn't wear a mask again if it got to wet. Also the main point of wearing a mask is not to protect yourself from the virus, but it is to protect other people from you incase you have the virus and have no symptoms (yet). Any kind of cloth infront of your mouth stops water droplets, that are the biggest containers of the virus (some of it still gets through but much much less!)

Go to your kitchen, grab a glass, and fill it with some water. Now dump it on the floor. Fill it back up with water and dump it through your mask. Your floor will take longer to get wet. The molecules of water are much smaller than the holes in your mask, but it still manages to hold back the water considerably. This isn't much different than how the virus works. My dad doesn't like to wear a mask. He had a kinda funny example as to why he thought masks don't work, he said "You wear pants, but you can still smell a fart. It just goes right through them, how is a mask going to stop the virus?" Well okay, grab a clean pair of underwear and smell them. They probably smell fine, but now put the underwear on and fart in them, you probably don't wanna smell them right after that. Why? Because the underwear caught some of the fart, even if a lot of it went through. No one is saying masks are going to prevent 100% of the virus from going through, just the same as how your underwear doesn't catch 100% of a fart. You're still not safe. The point is to do as much as possible to minimize your exposure. I think an important part of talking about these things with people, is to not be rude, or treat them with disrespect, but to talk to them and try to actually get them to understand. If you can get them to laugh or get them to be a little taken back by some odd statement, they might lower their guard and you might actually have a chance of getting them to start thinking about it differently. There's no way you are going to change someone's mind right off the bat, and even if you do, they probably won't admit it. You have to approach it with kindness and an openness to their ideas, otherwise you end up talking to a wall. Be a human to them, and talk to them like a friend, whoever it might be.

Perhaps this will an unpopular opinion but I think some of the points are definitely valid. Masks along with other things like social distancing and working from home where and when available should be temporary but mandatory laws. During a situation like Covid-19 I feel too many people are whining about their precious freedoms being violated and acting like they're being oppressed when in fact it's for the benefit of the whole country. Seeing how these people behave makes me think back to my old history lessons, in one lesson I was told this: 'In WWII, during the blitz the British public decided that your house being bombed was not a good enough excuse to turn up late to work.' Now the validity of that statement is questionable I know, but if true why can't some people just put up with some minor restrictions that are put in place to slow the spread of the virus. It boggles my mind to be quite frankly honest.

One perspective I heard was someone saying that they didn't like wearing masks because they got really anxious, and it felt like they couldn't breathe. I think this reason makes sense because it would be pretty embarrassing to sound like you're suffocating in public. Perhaps some say those BS excuses (as mentioned in the video) in an attempt to try and make it so they aren't forced to wear one? Maybe those same people won't listen to the fact that you can breathe in masks, because if you could, it wouldn't be such a struggle to them? I think these people would benefit from an alternative type of mask. Perhaps something like a clear, plastic face shield (something I saw in this comment section) might work better for them. P.S. I'm no expert on anxiety, so I might not be exactly correct with some of my explanations.
@Novstie4 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on the BS excuses thing. I believe those who use it as a politcal or "freedom" based argument are deeply afraid that listening to the mask orders and having their freedom "revoked"* could end in other pieces of their freedom being "taken away." *(i know, bizarre mindset but lets be real, most arguments against masks ARE fear based, as with many other things.)

I am a resident of the United States and have lived the entirety of my life in the state of Michigan. I have 0 problem wearing my mask. The only issue I have with wearing my mask is the fact that my Governor signed an executive order that mandated *masks be worn in commercial areas. Comercial areas can no longer assume people without masks have underlying health conditions. They must deny service and prohibit entry into the commercial establishment for not wearing a mask.* If you are found out and/or turned in for not complying with this order, you will be ticketed $500 by local police. The problem is this was an exectutive order by one person who was sued for behavior involving executive orders previously. This is an unconstitutional order. The masks aren't to blame. It's the politician. Edit:[Spelling Errors]

I think the reason the majority of people who are not wearing masks are doing so because they are afraid... afraid of things they dont know and to be honest the government is often portrayed as existing for itself rather than the people...and under that circumstances you are going to be more likely to listen to your approachable neighbour about these things rather than the govt . Also i guess those people are very stressed about the current situation and i dont it is right to expect humans under extreme stress to make rational choices. I think this reflects on a general distrust between the peoplee and their representatives . This pandemic has merely brought it out in the limelight... and you cant really blame people for distrusting the government as they often take decisions which are not in the best intterests of the public. The human element aside , i must say N-95 masks are a fine piece of engineering , they dont filter stuff exactly as a sieve does.. the plastic fibres in the masks are electrostatically charged , this means that small particles...even neutrally charged ones would come and stick to the plastic and the large particles will be filtered as they cant pass throug the holes . But medium particles is where the problem arises as they arent large enough to be blocked by the fibres nor are they small enough for the electrostatic attraction to be effective. And although the virus is tiny they are actually transmited through small droplets of water and it is these stuff the mask stops predominantly .furthermore if i recall correctly the fibres can lose their charge while washing or something that is why they arent reused i guess. I wish they were more people like you , who instead of ridiculing them (ppl who dont wear masks), is willing to understand their side and explain to them how these stuff work . They need to feel like they are in the loop too.

I ENTIRELY agree with you on that fear based idea.. Fear is a big motivator. And it's a lot easier to be afraid than to face the issue. An issue so big- it's gonna be scary. But it's in the end a lot more painful to dance around it rather than stare it in the face. The pandemic itself, and the disasters followed by it are built from all the energy that built up. It's all energy, with none that is coherently good or bad. You can see how it effects the people - the world is sick and so are they. And you can see how it effects the land. The world is sick, so it quakes and shatters. (many large earthquakes have occurred!) Being able to understand all sides and face something so large as this is a tough skill to learn. Young and old alike, it takes a lot, huh.

What pisses me off the most is when someone enters a store without a mask and is asked to leave and they make a big fuss about it. Yes, you have the right to not wear a mask but the store has the right to kick you out for not wearing one and they can call the police on you if you don’t leave.

In the Netherlands we've been wearing them for a long time already and in Belgium they are also heavy on people wearing them everywhere. Though in NL we also have rules about not going outside when you're ill (I don't know whether they have that in other countries too, I assume they do either way its quite common sense I think). Our Prime Minister has set up a research council which said that the non-medical masks (medical masks are preserved for people in the field, which I find great, cause they need them the most) are not very functional and will let the virus through, though it will give a safe feeling for people and stop the virus from staying the the liquid drops in which they survive best. Therefore the government decided to make masks obligatory in close proximity cases such as the trains. In belgium they also made them obligatory in any and all public buildings/places such as malls. They went a bit overboard I think, because of the reasons that our prime minister did not do that and only held the 1,5 Meter distance rule. Because the masks give people a sense of safety they are more likely to break the 1,5M rule and then the COVID virus can still infect you because the masks don't stop them and the distance is so short. Another wave of infections is on the rise in Belgium, maybe for this reason maybe for another, but in the Netherlands we haven't had another wave since the start. Therefore I think that the masks should only be obligatory where no distance of 1,5M or 6 foot (I believe) can be kept, because they still stop the COVID particles from spreading out very far when someone sneezes, but in public places there has to be a limit for a certain amount of people in a building or mall or anything, that way people can keep a safe distance and not infect eachother as often. This has worked a charm in the Netherlands. (Again I am not familiar with all the rules in other coutries, so this might already be implemented almost everywhere)

I have not yet worn a good-fitting mask, and as such, they all press down on my nose and make breathing through my nose near impossible. I know there are masks that will fit, but I have not yet found one. In the states and i'm in agreement about wearing a mask in public. However it's became very political here and mask requirements are being used to oppress peoples rights such as the right to bare arms in some instances, and our ability to express opinion and share information. This varies based on state government here and is being used as an excuse to push many different political agendas without any correlation.

We had mandatory mask-use in Germany from the lockdown and after that in shops and shopping malls. In the beginning, you had the odd person trying to be too cool for it or to argue. But we also allow shawls and those face-shields etc, as long as your mouth and nose is covered. So people with health problems can try out these as well. :) The people working in shops are also allowed to throw those out who don't wear any mask/cover. So they learned quickly to carry around a mask. And they sell really pretty ones now, too!
@dominoot26524 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I think that in turn that all public institutions should provide them if needed. In this case, it would be fair to heftily fine people for not wearing them, as they're putting people's health and lives at stake. And 'heftily fine' to me means $500+.

in a nutshell, their function is not protect you, although they can to some extend but in this case, protect people around you as it significantly decreases the tiny particles etc. that will come out of your mouth that might carry the virus. I didn't watch xisuma's video yet but I think you're talking about these simulations about how masks help reducing the risk so I'll try to find some videos about that one.

My concerns with forced mandating of mask wearing is mainly based on the inconsistency of the messaging, inconsistent enforcement and lack of scientific consensus on the effectiveness. I’m yet to see a single scientist deliver a complete explanation of the effectiveness. Pro or against. The risks of this for me are not the suggestion that they work or not, but lack of clarity, lack of evidence to justify mandating it through law. The biggest concern is the never ending shifting of the goal post. Lockdown, social distancing, masks etc. I also don’t believe it will end with this. I’m unsure how much the government’s of the world actually know and how much they really have under control. My other issue is, this is clearly going to effect our poorest and most economically at risk communities. I also can’t help but feel like it’s a little too late for masks and should have been considered sooner if implemented. Or at least measured and considered. Instead they were said to be ineffective and all of the sudden a total 180 on masks. If anything herd immunity is really our way out.

Disclaimer - - This is my personal opinion and it has formed from a small amount of information I've found and I haven't delved into the topic deeper at the current moment. Eventhough I dont agree with having to wear a mask I still wear it when needed i.e in shops ect becuase its quite simply the law - - I agree masks can help and are useful however what I don't currently agree with is the wearing of them by everyone essentially because according to some expirements done by others masks don't prevent you from inhaling the virus or exhaling it as most of it goes through the main 3 types of masks, as well as actually doing the opposite of what is intended as it makes you touch your face more often to adjust the mask which we have been advised not to do. ive tried to link the first video i watched on this topic ( no clue if it works or not :) ) the facemask topic is around 13.30 ----kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn6rqoaiedaji9lh- i think that its not masks , its facecoverings which include scarfs ect so as far as im aware as long as something is constantly covering your face its in legal? Also Xisuma masks are given out at food banks with the meals as well as foodbanks across England have started delivering food to people rather than having them pick it up (my source of info for this is the head of my comunities foodbank who told us about it because of our NCS charitiy project)
